Paul Walker Dead at 40 (Fast and Furious, Into the Blue)

Kinda sad as he was doing something charitable, it's not like he was found OD'd in some hotel.
As for irony he died when his porsche exploded. That's like Will Smith getting run over by a cab with a license plate that said FRESH.

It wouldn't truly be ironic unless there were also dice in the mirror.

-driver was Roger Rodas, a former professional race car driver. He's fully trained and competent in handling the car and those speeds. In fact, a race course is probably tighter tolerances than where they were.
-Their business was down the street, both of them owned it, and the area was closed down for a charity event they were holding nearby.

Guy driving just finished his rookie season in the Pirelli World Challenge driving for Paul Walker's team.

Doesn't look like any kind of closed road to me, with people all over the place and people filming it.

People can point to mechanical failure or jump through hoops to defend the driving environment or the skill of the driver, but the fact is, these two dopes are dead because of the speed they were traveling. Senseless, a pretty dumb way to die, but at least they didn't take out any other vehicles or people walking on the sidewalk. That would be a real tragedy. This was two guys who liked to roll the dice, and eventually you're gonna lose. That's the risk you run with dangerous hobbies. Personally, I prefer people who need this type of thrill in their lives to do it on a track where they can only kill each other.

Paul Walker may not have ever gotten into the car that took him to his death if it hadn't been acting up moments before the crash ... TMZ has learned.

Paul showed up Saturday for a fundraiser at Always Evolving -- Roger Rodas' high end auto shop that specializes in exotic cars. Paul had a stake in the shop.

Sources connected to Roger tell TMZ when Paul arrived ... Roger was watching one of his employees try in vain to back the Carrera GT into the shop, but it kept stalling. Roger decided to take matters into his own hands ... told the worker to get out and took the wheel himself.

As Roger began to back into the garage ... Paul came up and said he hadn't driven in the Porsche yet -- so he jumped in the passenger seat and they took a 20 minute drive.

The fatal accident happened on the way back from that drive -- just 500 yards from the shop.

Paul's best friend from childhood, Nute, grabbed a fire extinguisher and was among the first to arrive on scene. We're told Nute frantically tried to extinguish the flames ... even though it appeared to him both men were already dead.

When the fire dept arrived they tried to pull Nute away, but he was overwrought and punched a firefighter. We're told Sheriff's deputies put Nute -- and several other of Paul and Roger's friends -- in custody, but let them go when they realized the circumstances.
