PFT: Tebow to be traded if Manning signs in Denver

There’s a good reason for Tim Tebow to be rattled by the Broncos’ pursuit of Peyton Manning.

Per a source with knowledge of the dynamics in Denver, if the Broncos land Manning, Tebow most likely will be gone.

He wouldn’t be cut. He’d be traded. At while the number of potentially interested teams isn’t known, the next yard sale at Shad Khan’s house may include some oversized tarps.

Yes, we’re told that the Jaguars are in the mix to acquire Tebow via trade.

But if Manning doesn’t pick the Broncos, Plan B most likely doesn’t entail Tebow leaving. As we understand it, the Broncos already have done their due diligence (i.e., tampering) regarding the looming free-agent class, and the Broncos are having a hard time finding anyone who would be interested in becoming the focal point of the fury of the Tebowmaniacs.

Manning may not be, either. And if Peyton passes, Tebow will stay put for now, with the Broncos likely using a second- or third-round pick on a rookie quarterback and signing a veteran and hoping for the best.

Tebow isn't a brat like Cutler.

Not only that, but I bet Tebow wouldn't mind being traded if they do sign Manning so that he can play.

He needs to play in order to get better. Practice does nothing for him because his style is so unorthodox.

I agree that I think Tebow would handle it far better than Cutler did. I couldn't imagine Tebow hurting his image by coming out and saying how he wants a trade since his team went after a QB considered by some to be the best ever.

Personally, I think the best thing for Tebow is for him to stay in Denver with Manning. It certainly can't hurt for him to sit two or three years and learn from the best.

That would be a great fit for him. I gotta be honest, I'm not even a huge Tebow fan but I feel bad for the guy with the constant votes of "no confidence" he gets from the front office in Denver even though I can also see Elway's position. Tebow might not ever be one of the best QB's in the league but the guy is a winner and I think he could succeed in the right environment.

Bringing Tebow to Jacksonville would be huge for business down there as they would get an immediate bump in ticket sales, sponsorships, etc.

I think it's a stretch tho since Peyton hasn't even signed anywhere yet to say Denver is already dealing their starting QB.

I tend to agree with this but if we can get a second round pick for Tebow I'd make the move now.

That's a lot of value who could for all intents and purposes fall flat on his face and be nothing to the franchise down the road.

I'm pretty torn on this one.

For the Denver Broncos organization, it's a great move. For the development of Tim Tebow as a quarterback, it's a terrible move. At the end of the day, I think it's obvious which of the two John Elway is more worried about.

But let's face it, Gabbert is terrible. I'm not even sure why he was a top 10 pick to begin with. When the draft was coming I thought he looked like maybe a 3rd or 4th round pick. I just want to know what he did or what happened to make people fall in love with him. Gabbert doing anything productive this season is a pipe dream.

Well I am positive that they will give him a full offseason with a much better coaching staff and most likely some WR help and then evaluate him. Last season he was the third string QB a week before the season started and only got thrown into the fire because Garrard was cut and McCown shit the bed. Gabbert was the youngest QB drafted last year and the plan was for him to sit and learn his first season, so I don't think anyone in the organization is ready to give up on him yet. Hopefully a WR is taken in the first two rounds and they lure someone like Colston down to Jacksonville too so he isn't throwing to Mike Thomas and Chastin West as his top targets.

Also let's face it, Tebow isn't a franchise QB and he never will be. The idea of trading a 2nd round pick for a guy who has no real future passing the ball is a horrible idea. Gene Smith going into the draft that year had no interest in Tebow, so I have no reason to believe he has interest now.

Tebow's best role will eventually be as a spark plug type backup/gimmick player. However, he has certainly earned the right to start based on his solid play last year, so Denver should absolutely do the right thing and trade him somewhere where he can play.
