I'm not pinning it all on Childress ... but you have to admit the offensive playcalling was awful.
When your best offensive player is a glorified decoy (first-half) in a championship game, there is something not right.

I hate defending Favre here. I think this whole "he's having so much fun out there" and retiring and unretiring crap is tiresome.

I think the real question at this point is this: How will Favre get out of training camp next year?

At his age, I don't have a problem with a team making an exception.

Brett Favre is the sole reason the Vikings were still in the game in the first place. He played out of his mind. In the books he has 3 turnovers, which is only legitimately 1. The fumble was all on AP and the 1st interception was an easy call missed by the 12th man for the Saints.

LOL. The same 12th man for the Saints that called Roughing the Passer just a few plays earlier? And called a pass interference against the Saints in the endzone? And called 9 penalties for 88 yards against the Saints, and five for 32 against Minnesota?

He may have a hand in play calling, but he doesn't come up with the gameplan - and virtually benching your starting running back isn't a play call.

Bad play calling or not, the fact of the matter is the Vikings team as a whole did not get the job done. Pinning it on one aspect, regardless of what it is, is ridiculous. You win as a team, you lose as a team. Simple as that.

The pass interference call in overtime was not only a horrible call, but they also missed the block in the back on Jared Allen who would have owned Brees. The shot at the knees was missed, as well as the horrible call on the catch, even after he had instant replay. I may be a little bitter, but I don't feel biased when saying that.

I'm saying it will help better the team. Him attending camp will do nothing but help improve team chemistry. If he can't get through training camp and a full season, he shouldn't be playing anymore IMO

I brought up those penalties, because if the referees were so obviously in the Saints' pocket, the Saints wouldn't have had 50 more penalty yards then the Vikings.

There were no "12th man" referees for the Saints.

Honestly, though, if the Saints would have lost, I'd probably find something to nitpick about, myself. Fact is, it was a hell of a game. Both teams came hard, and the Saints came out on top.

I'm gonna continue to enjoy it. I don't even want the next two weeks to go by quickly -- just want to enjoy this experience of my team finally making the Super Bowl (and getting out of the company of Detroit, Cleveland, Jacksonville and Houston).

But who's to say that if he had attended training camp/first week of preseason, things would have been different today. Maybe they would have won more regular season games and won homefield advantage? Maybe some of the miscues would have never happened. It's all what if's and can never be proven/disproved.


Still, it doesn't matter though. They lost, their season is over, better luck next year.

The last interception was indeed a bad idea, but you can't fault him for trying to make a play to help his team win. It was a 57 yard field goal at that point and would have been between 52-54 had he tucked it in and ran. He needed to make a play and forced a ball across his body.

Even with the fumbling, had the refs called a legit game, Favre and the Vikings would have run away with this game. I can pin the fact that he threw an INT on the last play instead of a low percentage field goal, but that doesn't take away his courage and ability to take his team on his shoulders at the age of 40. Either way, the Vikings still benefited from Favre's presence as he made them a shit load of money. I have no doubt we'll see him back in a Vikings uniform next season.

Dave is also right on with the questionable playcalling. It really stuck out on the last drive. In the spread formation, the Vikings moved the ball down into the edge of FG range with 1:00 left in the game. Then they went into power I and ran into the gut 2 times for .5 yards and then got a penalty that put them out of reliable FG range. That doesn't excuse Favre for the INT but how many points did the Vikings take off the board tonight with the red zone fumbles (Peterson & Barian) and put on the board for the Saints (Harvin fumbles and the Saints recover inside the 10 yard line). You could literally feel the momentum in the dome going back and forth on those plays. The Vikings took the crowd out of the game and then would put them right back in it.

The fact that the Vikings pushed this game to OT while turning it over a half dozen times on the road shows how talented they were. Normally that kind of play gets you blown out by 4 or more scores.
