they are different types of safeties.... so it kinda depends on exactly what you are looking for in a safety.... is Ed Reed perfect for the Raven defense... yes.... could he do what Troy does in the Steeler defense.... probably but not as well.... is Polamalu perfect for the Steeler defense yes.... could Ed what Troy does for that defense yes but probbaly not as well..... i didnt vote, but it is interesting to see who sides with who...

Ed Reed has played Strong Safety and Free Safety in his career. His first 3 seasons he plays Strong, last 4 at Free. His stats at Strong are just as good as Troys. So anyone who says that Reed can't tackle or play strong is foolish, since he won his DPOY award at Strong.

Not to mention how can you compare 2 rings to a DPOY. Ed Reed would no doubt trade his DPOY for a ring or two, but it takes two sides to the ball. Now that we have something that resembles a offense and a stable quarterback, Reed will get the opportunity to get his ring more then ever.

Ed Reed should thank his lucky stars he can return those INTs as far as he does.
Thats the only thing that gives him DPOTY awards.

He dissapears for long stretches including games at a time ,and doesnt make nearly the impact in the run game as Sanders/Troy do.Hes a better version of Merton Hanks far as Im concerned

Troy and Bob Sanders have more consistent and varied impacts on there teams games.
Ill take Reed on my team instantly...but given the choice Id take Sanders/Troy first.

First off, I would love to have either one of these two in the Pats secondary, no doubt about it. Their styles of play may vary, but they both bring so much athleticism/versatility to a defense that has to be accounted for. With that said, I voted for Troy P. As some have stated before me, they both have the benefit of playing along with great defenses, but I believe Troy is more of a complete package. He plays so well in the secondary alone but I think that the way he disrupts the line of scrimmage, on just about every play btw, is almost unbelievable. He is like a mad man on the field, its just amazing to watch him play IMO. How long he will be able to keep this level of play up is another story, I hope it will be for a long time, but either way they are both first ballot HOFer's.

Very good post. True even. Reed is tight, of course he hawks balls, but Troy P is everywhere all at one time. You can't watch a game he plays and go three plays without seeing Troy. He's always around the action, ALWAYS!

Ed can't tackle? Ed can't play the run? When he played SS for the first three years of his career he got 85 , 71 and 76 tackles respectivly . He is asked to just ball hawk for the Ravens now . The scheme Ryan was running didn't need Reed down at the line like Troy does ..... Ryan even spoke about how his scheme needed a good ballhawk back there . Aka what he hopes Kerry Rhodes can do in New York

Anyways it all depends on what you need in the defensive system imo ..... (for who you would choose)

As big of a Colts and Sanders fan I am I can't see how you would take Sanders over Reed . For all his talent there becomes a point where playing 6-8 games a season isin't worth the money anymore . No matter how talented he is I would rather have somebody who can get me 16 games a season more regularly (Reed , Polamalu)

But I think you could honestly argue that Sanders is a better player than both when he is fit and on the feild .. he certainly has the biggest impact out of the three.

Not to mention he isn't a guy making tackles everywhere or is anywhere close to being as effective overall in run support.

Watching a lot of the Ravens/Chiefs game reminded me of that and how he's only truly dangerous with the ball in his hands or in just pass coverage. He can be avoided, he's not causing chaos everywhere like Troy.
