Greg McElroy Lost For Season

Late in the fourth quarter with the game on the line, star Alabama quarterback Greg McElroy was hit just as he unleashed a perfect spiral to Marquis Maze. He didn't get up. Trainers and the medical staff rushed the field, and he had a broken fibula, which will cost him the season.

It is very sad to see him go this way, as this is his final season and he has played much too much to be eligible for a medical redshirt. He's had a great career at Alabama, finishing with an overall record of 22-1, and winning one national championship.

It's Time for the Annual Iron Bowl

Tuscaloosa, Alabama- Mid-November is upon us and that only means one thing: the Iron Bowl. Every year since 1948, the Tigers of Auburn and the Crimson Tide of Alabama have faced off in November with everything at stake. Traditionally the last game of the season, these two teams ALWAYS bring their A-Game versus each other. Records are disregarded, talent levels increase tenfold, houses are divided, and everyone plays their hearts out in a competition so intense, the elderly will have heart attacks.

Alabama currently leads the All-Time series by a record of 40-33-1, and they have a current streak of two consecutive victories. The longest ever streak is also held by the Tide, who once held the title of Iron Bowl victor for nine seasons straight, from 1973 to 1981. The series between these two teams have held many incredible too close for comfort games, with the last one taking place exactly one year ago, when Alabama fell down 14-0 early in the first. All hope seemed lost as Heisman candidate Mark Ingram was stuffed in the backfield every play. However, freshman All-American running back Trent Richardson had one of his best performances of the season, and Greg McElroy played excellent when it mattered most, as the Tide secured a 26-21 victory.

This year, the Tide have been nothing less than underwhelming. They were expected to dominate and win back-to-back national titles, but Penn State tainted their loss column early in the season. Hopes were high again as the Tide kept on winning after tasting defeat for the first time since Utah, but after an unexpected loss to Mississippi State, all hope was lost for a chance to play for the National Title. To make things worse, Greg McElroy's college career is over as he suffered a season ending injury in the very same loss to the Bulldogs.

The Tigers from Auburn, Alabama have had a mediocre season with a 7-4 record, the exact same record they had last season coming into this game. They started out the season with a bad record of 1-2, with a close loss to Mississippi State and a 29-0 scrubbing from Clemson. Then, after getting back on track with three consecutive wins, they were blown out again, this time by the one-loss, currently #6 in the country, Arkansas Razorbacks. Their final loss of the season came against the Ole Miss Rebels, who gave them a 40-10 pounding. In a regular game against a team of the Crimson Tide's caliber, Auburn wouldn't stand a chance. However, this is no ordinary contest; this is the Iron Bowl. To make things even easier for Auburn, a redshirt Freshman quarterback will be the one calling the signals for Alabama.
