I want to emphasize that you have to have made the purchase on PS+. If you haven't purchased the freebee, and it comes down the next month, it's gone for good.

Maybe it's just me but the only piece of technology I will buy when I know the upgrade is on the horizon is cell phones because they're state of the art for all of about a month and there's no real way to get around it.

My PS3 on the other hand has been the top of the line in its technological category (calm down 360 guys the same argument can be made for your console) for over 7 years by the time the "next best thing" is scheduled to come out.

And as far as backwards compatibility I'm not really too worried about that. Sure it's cool for the first few months of release when there is a limited library for the new machine, but once developers start to utilize the new technology is have no real interest in popping in last gen games.

I imagine one of the driving factors for the revision is that it will be cheaper to make compared to current slim models, and even with the possibility of the next Sony console on the horizon, they need to save as much money as possible.

Let's not forget that the PS2 also sold well for a while after the PS3 was launched. Eventually the PS3's price will drop and it will be a good entry point into console gaming, and it will come with a sizable library of games to go with it.

Even though the thread is irrelevant, I just want to say that this statement is 100% false. Most people are fucking retarded. Trust me, I know. I'd be willing to bet that the majority of people who own a next-gen gaming console don't even know what the Wii U is, much less when it's being released. I've seen this phenomenon with the iPhone. My friends go buy an iPhone literally weeks before the new one comes out, and have no clue until I tell them how stupid they are. Best part is, they don't even care.

I'd imagine it's much the same with consoles.
