If iD is saying that the 360 version is better (which is what I gathered from Pad's synopsis), even with multiple discs I pay have to go with that version. Unless the difference is minor.

No idea how much the difference is, but Carmack was clear that he thought the 22 GB of data installed for the 360 version helped a lot with performance.

Apparently Sony puts a limit on the installation size. I'm curious why there is a limit TBH.

That is weird. I'm surprised they weren't willing to "adjust" that rule for a company like iD.

-360 version has three discs (2 SP, 1 MP), and installing is recommended (even if you have to install the first disc and later delete it to install the second)
-id was granted a larger install size (8GB) from Sony

Sweet. I was leaning towards the PS3 version but this solidifies it.

Per disc? Or 8 per disc? The latter wouldn't bother me too much (hell the former wouldn't either because I have that much space), but the former would seem a little crazy. I think 8 per disc wouldn't be that crazy for the SP.

If you have both consoles it seems like a no brainer to me.

Wow...that is a shitload of space. Thankfully I don't care about the disc space or the disc changing. I'll be curious if there is much of a difference between the two. End of the day I still won't get it on PS3 because I'm still not as confortable with the DS3 for FPS' as I am with the 360 controller. That, most of my friends have 360's, and no matter how much I try to get into trophies, I just don't have the same drive to do the extracuricular stuff to get them.

EDIT - is it fair to say 3 discs AND 22GBs? Once you install doesn't it just read the disc to ensure that you own it? I do wish regardless that if you installed you could circumvent the disc swap, but as I've said before, disc swapping = no big deal.

LA Noire was ~21 GB after all discs were installed. Ain't no thang.

That's why I specifically said "optional". You don't have to do the installs but you also won't get maximum performance. You'll most likely have pop in and issues with textures loading, as stated by Carmack months ago.

Technically it would be possible for both, albeit a bit frustrating most likely. You can install one disc at a time, delete and move on. Obviously totally not ideal, but still playable as an install.

Just don't install it. You shouldn't have to worry about overheating issues.

Also, get the 250GB HD for Christmas. No reason not to have it.

Rage has been optimized to run off the HDD for the Xbox 360 as Bethesda does advise to install the title before playing to ensure the best play performance. Today it has been revealed just how much HDD space the game will require and how much information each disc contains. As you’ll see below, Bethesda has maxed out the space of nearly every Xbox 360 DVD for Rage -- which makes use of the new XGD3 DVDs. The actual size of the Xbox 360 installation is 21.6GB.

Disc 1 -- 7.7GB

Disc 2 -- 7.4GB

Disc 3 -- 6.7GB multiplayer disc

Why the hell is the usable space on the 60GB only 44? Wtf is using 26GB of space? Someone school me.
