Tampa Bay Buccaneers Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Ray Perkins
Yrs: 9
Season Record: 9-7
Overall Record: 56-80 (.412)
Status: Perkins regressed in 1991 compared to last year. The 9th year head coach apparently is not going to get his contract resigned this off-season. The Buccaneers have decided to go a different direction due to Perkins lack of playoff success. The 9-7 Buccaneers were luckily in a weak division that allowed them to sneak over the Falcons and Saints into the playoffs. The team is hoping that whoever they sign as their new head coach this off-season will be able to fire the team up and get them to the next level.

Buccaneers Team MVP

Offense - HB - Roger Craig
Defense - S - Harry Hamilton
Buccaneers Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - LB - Tim Harris - 92 Tak - 7 Loss - 5 Sack - 2 FF - 3 FR - 14 Deflections
Info: Linebacker Tim Harris had a breakout year last year with the Green Bay Packers, but he decided to leave them in favor of a larger contract in Tampa Bay. Harris managed to live up to expectations and prove last year was not a fluke as he led the Buccaneers in tackles with 92 and contributed greatly in the pass rush and pass defense with 5 sacks and 14 deflections proving he was an all-around MLB.
2. - HB - Roger Craig - 349 Att - 4.0 Avg - 1,410 Yds - 16 TD - 2 Fum - 45 Rec - 7.3 Avg - 333 Yds - 1 TD
Info: The 49ers did not re-sign Roger Craig because they were under the belief that his injuries and age were catching up to him. Little did they know Roger Craig would shatter his previous best rushing touchdowns in a single season of 9 with 16 in 1991, leading the NFL. Craig also rushed for his 2nd best career total yards with 1,410 yards, second only to his 1,502 in 1988. Roger Craig quickly became the most valuable player on the Buccaneers team and was a large reason for their playoff birth. At 31 years old Craig is still proving doubters wrong as he continued to be a threat on the field in Tampa Bay. Craig also helped the Buccaneers struggling passing game by catching 45 passes out of the backfield.
3. - CB - Tim McKyer - 38 Tak - 1 FF - 1 FR - 4 Int - 2 TD - 12 Deflections
Info: As the teams #2 cornerback, Tim McKyer actually outshined Ricky Reynolds. McKyer did a good job of filling the hole left by Wayne Haddix and tied with Reynolds for the team lead in interceptions with 4. However he did lead the team in defensive touchdowns as he brought two of those interceptions back for touchdowns. McKyer The 28 year old cornerback is showing promise and should give much needed help to this Buccaneers team.
Buccaneers Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - K - Steve Christie - 22 of 33 FG - 66% - 34 of 34 XP - 100%
Info Last year Steve Christie was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to help their special teams and become the teams future at the kicker position. He had a solid rookie year where he hit 27 of 35 field goals for a respectable 77% success rate. However in his sophmore year Christie dropped that to 66% and left the Buccaneers demanding more. Christie's contract with the Buccaneers ended this year and it'll be interesting to see if they're willing to accept 66% and re-sign him.
2. - QB - Vinny Testaverde - 231 of 412 Att - 56% - 2,312 Yds - 14 TD - 18 Int - 65.3 Rat
Info: Vinny Testaverde needs to become more effecient if the Buccaneers hope to get anywhere with him as the teams signal caller. Testaverde only threw for 2,312 yards on the year and 14 touchdowns, hardly stellar in the passing game. However it was his 18 interceptions and 6 fumbles that left the Buccaneers team scratching their heads. If Testaverde doesn't cut down on his turnovers he'll be hard pressed to find a starting job in this league.
3. - WR - Mark Carrier - 64 Rec - 12.2 Avg - 783 Yds - 5 TD - 2 Drop
Info: This wasn't a bad year for Mark Carrier but it certainly was a let down when you compare it to his 1990 year. Carrier had 80 catches for 1,088 yards and 6 touchdowns last year, establishing himself as the team's true number one wide receiver. However this year he had many fewer receptions and was held to under 800 yards receiving.
