Tampa Bay Buccaneers Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Ray Perkins
Yrs: 9
Season Record: 9-7
Overall Record: 56-80 (.412)
Status: Perkins regressed in 1991 compared to last year. The 9th year head coach apparently is not going to get his contract resigned this off-season. The Buccaneers have decided to go a different direction due to Perkins lack of playoff success. The 9-7 Buccaneers were luckily in a weak division that allowed them to sneak over the Falcons and Saints into the playoffs. The team is hoping that whoever they sign as their new head coach this off-season will be able to fire the team up and get them to the next level.

Buccaneers Individual Player Statistics
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
91_Bucs_Statistics_1.jpg

91_Bucs_Statistics_2.jpg

Buccaneers Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
HB - Roger Craig

Offense - HB - Roger Craig
Defense - S - Harry Hamilton

Buccaneers Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - LB - Tim Harris - 92 Tak - 7 Loss - 5 Sack - 2 FF - 3 FR - 14 Deflections
Info: Linebacker Tim Harris had a breakout year last year with the Green Bay Packers, but he decided to leave them in favor of a larger contract in Tampa Bay. Harris managed to live up to expectations and prove last year was not a fluke as he led the Buccaneers in tackles with 92 and contributed greatly in the pass rush and pass defense with 5 sacks and 14 deflections proving he was an all-around MLB.

2. - HB - Roger Craig - 349 Att - 4.0 Avg - 1,410 Yds - 16 TD - 2 Fum - 45 Rec - 7.3 Avg - 333 Yds - 1 TD
Info: The 49ers did not re-sign Roger Craig because they were under the belief that his injuries and age were catching up to him. Little did they know Roger Craig would shatter his previous best rushing touchdowns in a single season of 9 with 16 in 1991, leading the NFL. Craig also rushed for his 2nd best career total yards with 1,410 yards, second only to his 1,502 in 1988. Roger Craig quickly became the most valuable player on the Buccaneers team and was a large reason for their playoff birth. At 31 years old Craig is still proving doubters wrong as he continued to be a threat on the field in Tampa Bay. Craig also helped the Buccaneers struggling passing game by catching 45 passes out of the backfield.

3. - CB - Tim McKyer - 38 Tak - 1 FF - 1 FR - 4 Int - 2 TD - 12 Deflections
Info: As the teams #2 cornerback, Tim McKyer actually outshined Ricky Reynolds. McKyer did a good job of filling the hole left by Wayne Haddix and tied with Reynolds for the team lead in interceptions with 4. However he did lead the team in defensive touchdowns as he brought two of those interceptions back for touchdowns. McKyer The 28 year old cornerback is showing promise and should give much needed help to this Buccaneers team.

Buccaneers Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - K - Steve Christie - 22 of 33 FG - 66% - 34 of 34 XP - 100%
Info Last year Steve Christie was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to help their special teams and become the teams future at the kicker position. He had a solid rookie year where he hit 27 of 35 field goals for a respectable 77% success rate. However in his sophmore year Christie dropped that to 66% and left the Buccaneers demanding more. Christie's contract with the Buccaneers ended this year and it'll be interesting to see if they're willing to accept 66% and re-sign him.

2. - QB - Vinny Testaverde - 231 of 412 Att - 56% - 2,312 Yds - 14 TD - 18 Int - 65.3 Rat
Info: Vinny Testaverde needs to become more effecient if the Buccaneers hope to get anywhere with him as the teams signal caller. Testaverde only threw for 2,312 yards on the year and 14 touchdowns, hardly stellar in the passing game. However it was his 18 interceptions and 6 fumbles that left the Buccaneers team scratching their heads. If Testaverde doesn't cut down on his turnovers he'll be hard pressed to find a starting job in this league.

3. - WR - Mark Carrier - 64 Rec - 12.2 Avg - 783 Yds - 5 TD - 2 Drop
Info: This wasn't a bad year for Mark Carrier but it certainly was a let down when you compare it to his 1990 year. Carrier had 80 catches for 1,088 yards and 6 touchdowns last year, establishing himself as the team's true number one wide receiver. However this year he had many fewer receptions and was held to under 800 yards receiving.

Phoenix Cardinals Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Joe Bugel
Yrs: 2
Season Record: 7-9
Overall Record: 14-18 (.438)
Status: Well the 1991 season brought a lot of change in Phoenix in terms of players and progression, but not in terms of wins and losses. Joe Bugel's 2nd year as the Cardinals head coach saw them repeat last years 7-9 record and remain at the bottom of their tough division. The Cardinals started off the year hot with a 6-3 record entering week 11. However it was a 6 game losing streak to the Seahawks, Oilers, 49ers twice, Vikings, and Rams that ended any playoff hopes. Bugel has two more years to right this ship or else he'll be kicked out of town, the Cardinals are tired of settling for mediocrity and want to utilize the talent that they have.

Cardinals 1991 Season Schedule
Wk1 - Sep 8 - *No Contest* - (Jaguars) - Won
Wk2 - Sep 15 - @Rams - Won - (24-17)
Wk3 - Bye Week - N/A

Cardinals Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
WR - Brett Perriman

Offense - QB - Timm Rosenbach
Defense - LB - Ken Harvey

Cardinals Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - WR - Brett Perriman - 86 Rec - 13.1 Avg - 1,132 Yds - 7 TD - 6 Drop
Info: With the departure of veteran wide receiver Roy Green to the Dallas Cowboys, and the retirement announcement of J.T. Smith Cardinals fans were worried about the integrity of their passing game. The Cardinals felt adequate that Ricky Proehl and Ernie Jones would be capable of holding that load. Brett Perriman left New Orleans despite an emerging passing game there for greener pastures. As a free agent he received a lot of interest but unfortunately no follow through. Perriman was one of the final free agents to actually sign a contract late into the pre-season. However it would turn out he would have the last laugh as Perriman would have an amazing breakout year establishing himself as a top NFL wide out. Perriman led the Cardinals with 86 catches and 1,132 yards. He helped in the surprising development of Timm Rosenbach with his 7 touchdown receptions as well. If Perriman returns to form next year the Cardinals may have found their next big star.

2. - WR - Ricky Proehl - 64 Rec - 12.9 Avg - 828 Yds - 9 TD - 3 Drop
Info: The Cardinals got one thing right when they expected Jones and Proehl to keep the Cardinals passing game afloat, and that was Ricky Proehl. Proehl didn't come on until the second half of the season but he did in a big way as he ended the 1991 season as the Cardinals leading touchdown catcher.

3. - QB - Timm Rosenbach - 277 of 471 Att - 58% - 2,895 Yds - 22 TD - 13 Int - 80.7 Rat - 28 Att - 90 Yds - 1 TD
Info: Rosenbach had only 13 touchdowns last year but was in general effecient enough to keep the Cardinals in some games. His running ability surprised many last year but he toned it down in 1991, and resulted in a much better passing year. Rosenbach accumulated 22 passing touchdowns and 2,895 yards with the use of Brett Perriman and Ricky Proehl as his new wide receiver weapons. The Cardinals had been looking for an excuse all year long to insert young quarterback free agent acquisition, Chris Chandler, into the starting lineup. However Rosenbach wouldn't let them as he kept making plays and kept the Cardinals alive until later in the year.

Cardinals Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - DT - Jim Wahler - 18 Tak - 2 Loss - 2 Sack - 1 FF - 3 Deflections
Info It would be hard for you to determine that Jim Wahler was the Cardinals starting defensive tackle by looking at his stats, and that's never a good thing. Wahler was a let-down in a mediocre Cardinals defensive line unit that only accounted for a measly 18 tackles and 2 sacks all year long.

2. - HB - Anthony Thompson - 96 Att - 3.1 Avg - 302 Yds - 1 TD - 2 Rec - 7.0 Avg - 14 Yds
Info: Last year Anthony Thompson and 1990 rookie Johnny Johnson had a solid two-back system going that was equal lightning and equal thunder. However in 1991 it started to become much more Johnson oriented and less Thompson-centric. Thompson had less than half the rushing yards he did in 1990 and only a single score on 96 carries.

3. - LB - Garth Jax - 35 Tak - 2 Deflections
Info: With the emergence of Eric Hill, Winston Moss, and Ken Harvey, as well as the signing of former Rams linebacker, Mike Wilcher, Jax has struggled. He accounted for 35 tackles and 2 deflections on the year but is a shadow of his former self.

Chargers Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Dan Henning
Yrs: 7
Season Record: 8-8
Overall Record: 48-63 (.432)
Status: When you have a 12-4 year where you go into the playoffs and play decently then you undoubtedly have some lee-way come the next year right? Wrong. Henning was fired almost immediately by the Chargers after a disappointing 8-8 season. Loosing two must-win games in New York in Week 16 against the Jets and Week 17 against the Giants forced the Chargers out of the division lead and handed it to the Los Angeles Raiders who were 9-7 on a silver platter. The Raiders would then go to the Super Bowl, where the Chargers feel they rightfully belonged. The scape goat for this was Henning as he was immediately fired and hired 56 year old Bobby Ross for his first NFL head coaching job. Ross will be his replacement and hopefully help bring the Chargers where they need to be, last years form.

Chargers Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
HB - Marion Butts

Offense - HB - Marion Butts
Defense - LB - Leslie O'Neal

Chargers Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - HB - Marion Butts - 358 Att - 4.0 Avg - 1,446 Yds - 9 TD - 2 Fum - 26 Rec - 7.8 Avg - 203 Yds
Info: Marion Butts is now officially a top NFL runningback with back-to-back 1,400+ yard rushing seasons with 10 and 9 touchdowns respectively. Butts went out in 1991 to prove that he was for real and not just a flash in the pan and he did just that despite the lackluster Chargers passing game.

2. - CB - Sam Seale - 29 Tak - 1 FF - 1 FR - 7 Int - 2 TD - 9 Deflections
Info: Last year Seale was on the let downs list with only a 3 interception year that led the Chargers. This year was a much better season for Sam Seale as he had an amazing 7 interception year. Seale helped a much improved Chargers pass defense with the additions of Thane Gash and Felix Wright as well as rookie Eric Turner to the backfield.

3. - DE - Lee Williams - 50 Tak - 8 Loss - 9 Sack - 2 FF -2 FR - 3 Deflections
Info: Lee Williams dropped off last year with only 5 sacks but upped it in 1991 with 9. His sacks would be 2nd on the Chargers only to Leslie O'Neal's 12 and would lead all of the teams defensive lineman by 5 or more.

Chargers Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - QB - Marc Wilson - 251 of 472 Att - 53% - 19 TD - 20 Int - 63.0 Rat
Info Last year Mark Vlasic came out of nowhere to have an 18 touchdown 8 interception year for the Chargers. With his success however came a demand for more money and the Chargers were not willing to give it to him as he was released. Another Mark, this one Marc Wilson, also had a breakout year last year in old age (32) with the New England Patriots. He too was released due to monetary issues. As a result Wilson was signed by the Chargers in hopes that he would replicated Vlasic's performance in 1990 and keep the Chargers with a solid passing game. Not the case. In 1991 Wilson struggled with only a 53% completion rate and 20 interceptions along with 6 fumbles. His 26 turnovers and lackluster completion rate left much to be desired despite his 19 touchdowns. Was Wilson merely a one-hit wonder with last years 2,701 yard, 25 touchdown year? So far that seems to be the case.

2. - FB - Tim Spencer - 66 Att - 2.2 Avg - 148 Yds - 1 TD - 1 Fum - 6 Rec - 3.1 Avg - 19 Yds
Info: Tim Spencer was more involved in goal line situations in 1990, which was seemingly changed this year. He only accounted for 1 touchdown all year. While he still greatly helped in blocking for Marion Butts his actual statistical output was not as good as last season.

3. - WR - Anthony Miller - 80 Rec - 9.6 Avg - 772 Yds - 7 TD - 5 Drop
Info: With Quinn Early out of the way on another team now many were expecting Miller to take on a much greater load and run with it. However he did take on that much greater load with 80 catches but didn't exactly run with it, more like caught and dropped with it. Miller had only a 9.6 yard per catch average. In fact the only Chargers with greater than 10 yards per catch average were Ronnie Harmon (16.0) with 11 catches for 176 yards, and Reggie Barrett (13.0) with 12 catches for 157. A conservative pass attack led to a disappointing year for Miller in what was supposed to be his highlight season.

Chiefs Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Marty Schottenheimer
Yrs: 8
Season Record: 6-10
Overall Record: 68-50 (.576)
Status: Unfortunately for Marty the Chiefs went backwards in 1991. After a solid 1990 year where they went 10-6 but were robbed of a playoff opportunity due to the immense AFC competition that year. This year they were hoping to equal last years performance but add a playoff birth, well, so much for hope. The Chiefs struggled to a 6-10 record. Schottenheimer's regression probably won't phase him as he did sign a long-term deal initially with Kansas City, but that doesn't mean he can't step his game up in 1992. The Chiefs are lucky in the fact that 6 of their losses came within a touchdown. The team could've just as easily been 12-4 instead of 6-10 but it's hard to keep that in mind when looking at the 1-7 outcome of Weeks 8 through 15.

Chiefs Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
LB - Derrick Thomas

Offense - HB - Christian Okoye
Defense - LB - Derrick Thomas

Chiefs Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - TE - Ben Coates - 60 Rec - 6.6 Avg - 399 Yds - 3 TD - 2 Drop
Info: Rookie Ben Coates did what the Chiefs drafted him for, and that's catch passes. Coates had 60 catches which was 1 short of the team lead (Stephone Paige, 61). The only thing he needs to improve on is his run after the catch as he only had 399 yards on those 60 grabs. However for a rookie Coates definately proved his worth and hopefully will help alleviate whoever's quarterbacking Kansas City next year.

2. - LB - Derrick Thomas - 131 Tak - 13 Loss - 13 Sack - 3 FF - 14 Deflections
Info: Once again Derrick Thomas explodes on the grid iron with another monster year. He led the Chiefs in tackles, tackles for a loss, sacks, forced fumbles, AND deflections! Thomas is without a doubt one of the NFL's top tier linebackers and is a continuing reason for the Chiefs defensive prowess. Now to get a matching offense that plays with the same intensity.

3. - HB - Christian Okoye - 357 Att - 4.1 Avg - 1,466 Yds - 10 TD - 5 FUm - 14 Rec - 7.1 Avg - 100 Yds
Info: While Okoye didn't quite live up to last years 1,885 yards he still was amongst the league leaders in yardage with 1,466 yards on the ground. He did however score more touchdowns as he rushed for 10 instead of 9 touchdowns this year.

Chiefs Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - HB - Bill Jones - 90 Att - 1.8 Avg - 169 Yds - 1 Fum
Info A big part of the success the Chiefs had last year was not only the amazing rushing attack of Christian Okoye but his relief, Barry Word. Word had 713 yards and 7 touchdowns in limited time. He did so well that he left to do the same in Cleveland with Leroy Hoard, but failed with a lackluster year with hardly any playing time. However the Chiefs also failed in that release as they did not find an heir apparent to replace him. Bill Jones certainly didn't put up the numbers they were looking for as the teams #2 running back with a horrible 1.8 yard per carry average.

2. - DT - Bill Maas - 4 Tak - 1 Deflection
Info: As the Chiefs number two defensive tackle Maas saw surprisingly little play time in 1991. He only amounted 4 tackles and a single deflection all year long as his only statistical forays.

3. - QB - Steve Pelluer - 240 of 420 Att - 2,240 Yds - 14 TD - 14 Int - 69.2 Rat
Info: Steve Pelluer did what was asked of him in 1991, and that was be a serviceable quarterback in the interim with the retirement of Steve DeBerg. But that's not what people aspire to be, serviceable. Pelluer had 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions along with 8 fumbles on the season. The lack of a single wide receiver over 600 yards receiving led to Okoye's less stellar yardage output because of the one-dimensional nature of the Chiefs offense. The Chiefs had their outstanding defense wasted this year because of lack of leadership. Rookie quarterback Scott Zolak didn't do much better in his two games in as well with 233 yards, 46% completion rate, and 2 touchdowns for 3 interceptions and a fumble. The Chiefs desperately need a quarterback.

Coach: Ron Meyer
Yrs: 9
Season Record: 7-9
Overall Record: 63-52 (.548)
Status: Coming into 1991 it was said that, this being the final year of Meyer's contract, it would be a make or break year for him. Ever since taking over the Colts Meyer has led to the precipice of playoff-hood with a 9-6-1, 9-7, 8-8, and last years 9-7 season. This year was supposed to be a big year for the Colts, but they fell short under Meyer's reign with a 7-9 record. Meyer produced the worst record he's had as the Colts head-coach in his most important year. It seems the Colts front office is not happy with the stagnation that has been achieved under Meyer and have announced that he will be released in a few weeks as the teams head coach. The Colts are said to be staying internally with their signing of Ted Marchibroda. Marchibroda was the Colts head coach from 1975 to 1979. He started off well then had two consecutive 5-11 seasons. However the Colts believe in his age he has grown wiser and is just the kind of coach the Colts need to push them over the hump.

Colts Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
HB - Eric Dickerson

Offense - HB - Eric Dickerson
Defense - CB - Chris Goode

Colts Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - LB - Jeff Herrod - 91 Tak - 4 Loss - 5 Sack - 1 FF - 3 FR - 3 Int - 2 TD - 11 Deflections
Info: Jeff Herrod had a monster 1991 year where he led the Colts in tackles, had 5 sacks, as well as 3 interceptions. He accounted for two key defensive touchdowns in the Colts few victories and continues to play top notch football.

2. - CB - Chris Goode - 35 Tak - 1 FR - 6 Int - 6 Deflections
Info: Goode started off the season as the Colts number three cornerback on the roster. Eugene Daniel was the teams top guy with 23 year old youngster Alan Grant coming along as the team's number two. However due to the exceptional play of Chris Goode early in the year the Colts had to switch him out and he ended up overtaking the number two spot, and almost the top spot as well. Goode led the Colts with an outstanding 6 interceptions on the year.

3. - HB - Eric Dickerson - 317 Att - 4.4 Avg - 1,414 Yds - 8 TD - 0 Fum - 35 Rec - 6.4 Avg - 225 Yds - 3 TD
Info: Eric Dickerson had a great year once again where he continued last years 1,460 yard season with a follow up 1,414 yard year that was just as good. His 8 touchdowns dipped a little but his 3 in the passing game was an improvement. Dickerson also continued to impress with his complete lack of a single fumble all year long.

Colts Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - K - Dean Biasucci - 18 of 34 FG - 52% - 30 of 32 XP - 93%
Info Dean Biasucci is one of the better kickers in the league. Last year he had a great season where he nailed 80% of his 42 field goal attempts (34) and helped the Colts make some key victories. This year he completely regressed into a horrendous 52% kicking mode, also missing two extra points. He single-handedly lost the Colts the game against the Bengals (13-16) by missing three field goals that day.

2. - QB - Jeff George - 270 of 459 Att - 58% - 2,506 Yds - 16 TD - 21 Int - 66.4 Rat
Info: Jeff George had an excuse last year for not doing well, he was a rookie. He had 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions. Not steller, but not bad. This year George was expected to improve and while he had more touchdowns, barely, with 16. He struggled with 21 interceptions on the year. George's 66.4 quarterback rating was not what the Colts were looking for in their expected future franchise quarterback. George showed his arm strength with 2,506 yards in the air despite a dominating run game, but his accuracy needs to be improved if he wants to remain the number 1 option for the Colts under center.

3. - CB - Larry Brown - 3 Tackles
Info: Rookie cornerback Larry Brown was drafted to help bolster the Colts defensive backfield, but he hardly made any impact at all on the entire year. Brown accounted for just 3 tackles in his limited playing time and didn't do much else on the field. If Brown wants to have a future in this league he'll have to step it up, especially if he ever wants to play in a big-game.

Cowboys Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Jimmy Johnson
Yrs: 3
Season Record: 9-7
Overall Record: 17-31 (.354)
Status: Jimmy Johnson has taken an abysmal Dallas Cowboys team and slowly is building them into contenders. When he took over the Cowboys Johnson had a 1-15 season, he improved it greatly in 1990 with a 7-9 year, and the improvement just keeps on coming. In 1991 Johnson helped the Cowboys reach a 9-7 record with their playoff chances coming down to the last game of the season against the Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. If the Cowboys had won that game where they lost 16-41, they would've made the playoffs. However that leaves a goal for next year as Johnson continues to turn this Cowboys team around. Each year an improvement and if the Eagles, Giants, and Redskins don't hurry up they may be in for a surprise in 1992.

Cowboys Team MVP

HB - Emmitt Smith

Offense - HB - Emmitt Smith
Defense - FS - Bill Bates

Cowboys Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - HB - Emmitt Smith - 419 Att - 3.9 Avg - 1,667 Yds - 11 TD - 4 Fum - 45 Rec - 398 Yds - 8.8 Avg - 3 TD
Info: Despite taking a monster workload of 464 total touches, Emmitt Smith produced greatly. Smith had 1,667 yards rushin gon the ground and eclipsed the 2,000 total yard mark with his 398 receiving yards. He had 14 total touchdowns improving over last years 10. Smith is now the star of the Cowboys and is starting to hear comparisons of Tony Dorsett's name popping up. If he can live up the hype he should dominate.

2. - FS - Bill Bates - 115 Tak - 2 Loss - 1 Sack - 5 FF - 1 FR - 2 Int - 5 Deflections
Info: Bill Bates proved his was a jack of all trades with his 1991 performance. He led the Cowboys in tackles beating out Jack Del Rio with a single takedown. He also tied rookie Roman Phifer for the team league in forced fumbles with 5. His two interceptions were also tied for 2nd on the team behind leader Manny Hendrix (4).

3. - DT - Eric Swann - 30 Tak - 6 Loss - 6 Sack - 2 FR - 3 Deflections
Info: Eric Swann had a big time rookie year that went quietly unnoticed because of the more publicized success of teammate rookie, Roman Phifer. Swann had 6 sacks on the year which was 4th on the team behind Jim Jeffcoat, Danny Noonan, and Tony Tolbert, but as a run-stopping defensive tackle that stood out. He also managed to recover two fumbles and will hopefully become the next big acquisition for the Cowboys as they hunt to make the playoffs.

Cowboys Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - MLB - Kurt Gouevia - 3 Tackles - 1 Deflection
Info As the teams primary backup linebacker Kurt hardly impressed. The Cowboys were let down by his lack of production and as a result stuck more with Vinson Smith to substitute in instead.

2. - WR - Michael Irvin - 49 Rec - 10.8 Avg - 532 Yds - 1 TD - 6 Drop
Info: This was supposed to be the year that Michael Irvin broke out and became the team's top receiver. However with the late addition of veteran ex-Cardinal wide receiver, Roy Green, the direction changed a little. Kelvin Martin improved with his 15.4 yards per catch average and 5 touchdowns taking heat away from Irvin. However Irvin still only managed 49 catches, his 10.8 average was lackluster but his lack of paydirt production is what stood out. Aikman improved with a 17 touchdown 17 pick season but it was expected to be much more due to Irvin's involvement instead of Aikman spreading the ball around.

3. - WR - Roy Green - 45 Rec - 10.5 Avg - 475 Yds - 3 TD - 3 Drop
Info: Late in the off-season Roy Green was brought in to contend with Michael Irvin for the team's number one spot. While he did out perform him with 3 touchdowns, that's still not a large number. His 45 catches and 475 yards kept him in the mix but his age started to show. Roy Green played well enough for a guy the Cardinals expected had 'lost' his ability due to age. But he didn't play well enough considering the expectations that the Cowboys had for him by signing him to a 3 year $13.23 million dollar deal.

Dolphins Year Report

Coach: Don Schula
Yrs: 29
Season Record: 10-6
Overall Record: 285-135 (.679)
Status: Don Schula continues his illustrious head coaching career in his 29th season. Schula once again worked his magic in 1991 as he helped to turn around a dismal 6-10 season in 1990 into a 10-6 playoff birth season for the Dolphins. It'll be interesting to see if they can dethrone the hot Buffalo Bills to lead their division in the next few years.

Dolphins Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
QB - Dan Marino

Offense - QB - Dan Marino
Defense - CB - J.B. Brown

Dolphins Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - QB - Dan Marino - 293 of 493 Att - 59% - 3,253 Yds - 27 TD - 17 Int - 83.0 Rat
Info: Finally Dan Marino has returned to old form. Last year was one of the biggest flukes in the NFL as the great Dan Marino threw only 11 touchdowns and 24 interceptions on the year. HIs lack of production was a major factor in the Dolphins abysmal 6-10 record that season. This year however Marino turned things around and achieved 27 touchdowns and helped the Dolphins to a 10-6 playoff birth.

2. - CB - J.B. Brown - 51 Tak - 1 FF - 2 FR - 7 Int - 12 Deflections
Info: Last year J.B. Brown suffered with nagging injuries and only had 7 tackles and 1 deflection on the entire year. THis season he exploded in the secondary for the Dolphins with a team-leading 7 interceptions as well as a team-leading 12 deflections. Brown proved his worth against the pass and helped improve a much needed pass defense game for the Dolphins.

3. - TE - Ferrell Edmunds - 62 Rec - 8.4 Avg - 521 Yds - 5 TD - 3 Drop
Info: One of the struggles that the Dolphins had last year was the production after the catch from Ferrell Edmunds. The team's starting tight end had a solid 51 catch season last year but for only 376 yards and not a single touchdown. Taking him out of the red zone equation didn't help Marino. This year however Edmunds came back with even more catches and a much better yard per catch average for a tight end. He also managed to catch 5 touchdown passes.

Dolphins Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - OL - Richmond Webb - 17 Pancakes - 9 Sacks Allowed
Info Last year as a rookie Richmond Webb had 29 pancakes and only 8 sacks allowed. This year however he failed in comparison with only 17 pancakes and allowing another sack. Webb will have to improve those numbers if he wants to develop into a top-notch offensive lineman in this league.

2. - CB - Liffort Hobley - 45 Tak - 1 FF - 1 FR - 2 Int - 8 Deflections
Info: While not necessarily a bad year, Hobley struggled when comparing to his previous output. Last year Hobley lead the team with a surprising 10 interception 14 deflection season, showing dominance and a bright spot in an otherwise lackluster year for the Dolphins. This year his teammates, J.B. Brown, Louis Oliver, and J.Williams all helped but Hobley struggled to only 2 interceptions, a mere 5th of his previous performance, falling short of expectations.

3. - DE - Moe Gardner - 5 Tak - 1 Loss - 1 Deflection
Info: For supposedly a surprise rookie draft pick Gardner hardly produced any numbers. Along with co-rookie, Michale Sinclair the Dolphins struggled to develop their youngsters in the pass attack. Hopefully Gardner can improve the following season to prove to MIami that he wasn't a wasted draft pick.

Eagles Year Report

Coach: Buddy Ryan
Yrs: 6
Season Record: 10-6
Overall Record: 56-38-1 (.589)
Status: Buddy Ryan signed a new contract with Philadelphia after his Super Bowl winning season last year. The 13-3 Eagles dominated in the playoffs and pulled off a last second victory over the Houston Oilers. This season the Eagles did a valiant job of once again leading their division with a 10-6 record and heading into the playoffs, but were unable to repeat. Ryan will continue to have success in Philadelphia if given the opportunity.

91_Eagles_Statistics_2.jpg

Eagles Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
QB - Randall Cunningham

Offense - QB - Randall Cunningham
Defense - CB - Eric Allen

Eagles Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - WR - Calvin Williams - 70 Rec - 14.5 Avg - 1,018 Yds - 8 TD - 1 Drop
Info: Last season the rookie wide receiver tandem of Calvin Williams and Fred Barnett is what got the Eagles their Super Bowl victory. However what wasn't established was which of these two was deserving of the #1 wide receiver spot on the team. This year, Williams made sure it would be him. He led the team in receptions with 70 over Barnett's 69 but had a much better average with 1,018 yards, and more touchdowns with 8, and only a single drop all year long.

2. - HB - Heath Sherman - 106 Att - 3.0 Avg - 326 Yds - 6 TD - 2 Fum - 2 Rec - 3.5 Avg - 7 yds
Info: Sherman about duplicated last years rushing yard totals, however he had one thing that was missing from last year, and that was touchdowns. This year Sherman proved to be an asset in the red zone as he accounted for 6 rushing touchdowns, tying starter Anthony Toney for the team lead.

3. - CB - Eric Allen - 37 Tak - 1 Sack - 7 Int - 14 Deflections - 47 KR - 26.9 Avg - 1,268 Yds - 1 TD - 61 PR - 11.3 Avg - 692 Yds
Info: Last year Eric Allen had a great season but this years dominating performance was even better. In 1990 Allen had 10 deflections and 4 interceptions, this year he had 14 deflections and 7 interceptions. Allen continues to impress and is being crowned as one of the best cornerbacks currently playing the game. Allen also proved to be a great asset in the return game as he had a solid 1,268 yards on kick returns including one 102 yard touchdown return.

Eagles Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - TE - Keith Jackson - 37 Rec - 7.4 Avg - 276 Yds - 3 TD
Info A lackluster season for Jackson didn't help the passing game of the Eagles. Jackson needs to improve on his yardage by upping his yards per catch next season if he wants to remain a significant member of this Eagles pass attack.

2. - HB - Anthony Toney - 234 Att - 3.5 Avg - 841 Yds - 6 TD - 1 Fum - 39 Rec - 6.2 Avg - 242 Yds - 1 TD
Info: Anthony Toney, after his explosive playing in the playoffs that helped the Eagles get to the Super Bowl last year, was expected to have a monster 1991 follow up performance. However that was not the case as Toney ended up practically duplicating his regulars season statistics from 1990. Toney didn't show much improvement and much of the flash that was seen in last years playoffs seemed to have dwindled. Toney will have to bounce back next season if he doesn't want to be labeled as a one time wonder.

3. - OL - Reggie Singletary - 16 Pancakes - 9 Sacks Allowed
Info: With Mike Schad being injured for the majority of the season the Philadelphia Eagles needed a replacement. They looked no further than youngster Reggie Singletary to step in and impress on the Eagles offensive line. Singeltary did step in but didn't impress as he allowed 9 sacks while struggling to learn the offensive methods.

Coach: Jerry Glanville
Yrs: 7
Season Record: 7-9
Overall Record: 44-52 (.458)
Status: Glanville improved by 2 games in 1991 despite not being able to determine which player he wanted to start at the quarterback position. With Brett Favre coming in as a rookie the Falcons were debating between him and Chris Miller, however they fell short loosing 2 games out to the Buccaneers division lead. Glanville is creeping up on the end of his contract with 2 more years left and he's trying to break his personal .500 mark.

Falcons Team MVP[/color]
--------------------------------------------------------
LB - Jessie Tuggle

Offense - HB - Steve Broussard
Defense - LB - Jessie Tuggle

Falcons Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - LB - Jessie Tuggle - 131 Tak - 11 Loss - 12 Sack - 3 FF - 5 FR - 1 Int - 1 TD - 13 Deflections
Info: I didn't think it was possible for Jessie Tuggle to improve his 1990 season, but he did in 1991. He dominated all other team players in tackles with 34 more than the closest player, Brian Jordan (97). He also led the team by more than 7 to the closest player with 12 sacks. Behind Deion Sanders Tuggle was also 2nd on the team in deflections. There is no doubt that this diminutive linebacker is playing like a giant on the field.

2. - OL - Chris Gambol - 53 Pancakes - 9 Sacks Allowed
Info: A big time season for Chris Gambol is going to bolster the future of this offensive line. The Falcons offensive line has struggled to protect Chris Miller & Brett Favre throughout the year but Gambol was a shining star. If he can bring leadership to the unit the Falcons may have success down the line.

3. - WR - Michael Haynes - 64 Rec - 11.1 Avg - 716 Yds - 4 TD - 7 Drop
Info: While Haynes was a little drop happy this season he still improve over last year with a greater roll in the Falcons pass game. His 64 catches was good enough for 2nd on the team as well as his 716 yards and 4 touchdowns. If Haynes continues to improve he will become a great tandem player for Andre Rison.

Falcons Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - LB - Tim Green - 28 Tak - 2 Loss - 2 Sack - 1 FF - 1 FR - 1 Deflection
Info Green suffered from the explosion of Tuggle when it came to getting playing time in 1991. He had merely a third of the tackles he had last year and struggled to make much of an impact on the Falcons defense.

2. - DT - Tory Epps - 17 Tak - 6 Loss - 5 Sack - 2 Deflections
Info: The pass rushing was there for Tory Epps. He did a solid job in his first year as a true starter for the Atlanta Falcons. He managed to aquire 5 sacks which was tied with Darion Conner for 2nd on the team to Jessie Tuggle's 12. However where Epps wasn't there for the Falcons was in the run game. He was not much help in stopping the run and that allowed the Falcons defense to be gauged by many running backs.

3. - QB - Brett Favre - 77 of 140 Att - 55% - 868 Yds - 5 TD - 7 Int - 64.8 Rat
Info: With their first pick in the NFL draft the Atlanta Falcons went quarterback. It is apparent that they aren't satisfied with Chris Miller at quarterback who due to injury last season saw Scott Campbell start over him. This year however the Falcons went with rookie Brett Favre. Favre showed early shines of greatness playing well, but then tapered off as his opportunities continued. Eventually the Falcons had to make the change and put Miller back in who had a respectable 13 Touchdown 10 Interception 2,091 yard finish to the year. Favre is already clamoring that he wants to start, and don't be surprised if he does next year, just not in Atlanta.

Coach: George Seifert
Yrs: 3
Season Record: 10-6
Overall Record: 34-14 (.708)
Status: Seifert continues to have success as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, as he pulled out a Super Bowl victory this year. The 49ers defeated the Los Angeles Raiders in the Super Bowl and Seifert added his 2nd Super Bowl victory in just 3 years as a head coach. He has undoubteduly earned himself a large contract and will remain the 49ers head coach for some time.

49ers Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
QB - Joe Montana

Offense - QB - Joe Montana
Defense - LB - Charles Haley

49ers Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - WR - Jerry Rice - 96 Rec - 13.5 Avg - 1,301 Yds - 15 TD -4 Drop
Info: Last year Jerry Rice led the 49ers in all receiving categories, and he did the same this year, except last year he did it with 72 catches 888 yards and 10 touchdowns. This year Rice returned to #1 wide receiver in the league form with 96 catches for 1,301 yards and 15 touchdowns! Teaming up with John Taylor and rookie Yancey Thigpen the 49ers had one of the top pass attacks in the league once again.

2. - QB - Joe Montana - 304 of 469 Att - 64% - 3,659 Yds - 32 TD - 13 Int - 99.8 Rat
Info: When you quarterback has a 99.8 quarterback rating on the season you know he's had a good year. Montana had some nagging injuries but managed to stay healthy through the majority of the year. He once again led the 49ers to the Super Bowl and had a monstrous 32 touchdown year.

3. - WR - John Taylor - 80 Rec - 15.5 Avg - 1,245 Yds - 11 TD - 7 Drop
Info: Last year Taylor had 66 catches for 799 yards and 7 touchdowns. He improved on all of those numbers in 1991 as the 49ers pass attack was nearly impossible all year long. Taylor had some humongous games in the playoffs when teams would double-team Jerry Rice. If it wasn't for Taylor's contributions the 49ers may not be wearing Super Bowl rings this year.

49ers Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - HB - John L. Williams - 218 Att - 3.2 Avg - 703 Yds - 6 TD - 3 Fum - 26 Rec - 8.6 Avg - 225 Yds - 1 TD
Info It's always going to be a hard task when you're told to come in and replace one of the best duel-threat runningbacks in the league, Roger Craig. Williams was given that daunting task this year when the 49ers signed him late in the off-season. Many were surprised at this decision as Williams has only had limited playing time as a split back in Seattle. Williams played decently with his 703 yards and 6 touchdowns but he didn't improve at all from his Seattle numbers. Many were expecting this year with an improve passing game and offensive line that Williams would finally be showcased in a 49ers offense. A late injury nagged Williams going into the playoffs and was a big reason for the 49ers signing free agent ex-Packer, Brent Fullwood late in the regular season. Fullwood eventually fully won the starting job after a few great playoff performances and it's questionable whether or not Williams will continue to be the 49ers starting running back going into the 1992 season.

2. - DE - Pierce Holt - 43 Tak - 5 Loss - 2 Sacks - 3 Deflections
Info: Pierce Holt is going to need more than 2 sacks if he wants to keep his starting job in San Francisco. The 49ers liked his ability to protect the outside in run games but otherwise he struggled.

3. - C - Jesse Sapolu - 35 Pancakes - 16 Sacks Allowed
Info: Star center Jesse Sapolu let a surprising amount of defenders get to the quarterback this year. Sapolu is coming off of a 54 pancake 8 sacks allowed 1991 season that was destroyed this year by his lack of progression. Sapolu is going to have to step his game up next year, if nothing else just to help protect and aging Joe Montana.

Status: The Giants gave Parcells a break and decided to keep him as the team's head coach after last seasons disappointing 9-7 year where the Giants were 3rd in their division. The Giants started off hot this season with a 5-1 record only losing on the road to the Chicago Bears, but slowly fell apart as the season went on and ended it 4-6. This year Parcells was going to have to come in and make a big difference if he wanted to keep the Giants front office happy. Unfortunately for him he did the exact same thing as last year, and led the Giants to a 9-7 record. However with the loss of Ottis Anderson and Phil Simms it was a minor miracle that Parcells was actually able to do that. The Giants also came out 2nd in their division this year instead of 3rd, so it appears the Giants may actually keep Parcells another year.

Giants Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
LB - Lawrence Taylor

Offense - HB - Rodney Hampton
Defense - LB - Lawrence Taylor

Giants Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - HB - Rodney Hampton - 386 Att - 3.5 Avg - 1,354 Yds - 9 TD - 5 Fum - 39 Rec - 6.3 Avg - 248 Yds - 2 TD
Info: Last year as a rookie Rodney Hampton split carries with veteran Ottis Anderson. However Hampton was much less successful in comparison as he only averaged 2.8 yards per carry that year. The Giants were beginning to doubt that they had drafted their presumed future at running back. However if Hampton's 1991 campaign was any indication then the Giants have nothing to worry about. Hampton stepped his game up with the added responsibility this year and garnered over 1,600 yards and 11 total touchdowns despite the lack of New York's passing game having defenses hoard Hampton.

2. - HB - Dave Meggett - 73 Att - 3.9 Avg - 286 Yds - 1 TD - 4 Fum - 1 Rec - 6 Yds - 46 KR - 25.0 Avg - 1,150 Yds - 1 TD - 62 PR - 8.3 Avg - 520 Yds - 1 TD
Info: Dave Meggett did well in the more limited roll he had out of the backfield for the Giants as he had the best rushing average on the team. Meggett still did what he does best though in returning kicks as he had both a kick and punt return for touchdowns in 1991.

3. - WR - Keenan McCardell - 51 Rec - 9.4 Avg - 483 Yds - 1 TD - 6 Drop
Info: Rookie Keenan McCardell was one of the few bright spots in the Giants passing game this year. If anything he showed flashes of what he'll be capable of over the next few years. McCardell was second on the team in catches and yards despite the struggles of Jeff Hostetler at quarterback.

Giants Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - QB - Jeff Hostetler - 235 of 438 Att - 53% - 2,164 Yds - 8 TD - 18 Int - 56.3 Rat
Info It's always going to be hard to follow up a franchise favorite, and that's exactly what Hostetler found out in 1991. Hostetler struggled to only 8 touchdowns on the entire season in the passing game. He also had a horrible 56.3 quarterback rating and tried his best to keep the Giants alive in numerous games. Hostetler is going to have to improve if he ever wants a chance to start again in the NFL.

2. - DT - Erik Howard - 36 Tak - 2 Loss - 1 Sack - 3 FF - 1 FR - 3 Deflections
Info: While it wasn't a bad year it definately wasn't a great one for Erik Howard. The big run-stopping defensive tackle did adequately in that regard, but his complete lack of a pass rush left a missing cog in the Giants defense. Howard only had a single sack all year long and that'll need to change to help the Giants advance in the future.

3. - OL - Bart Oates - 44 Pancakes - 15 Sacks Allowed
Info: Oates is one of the better offensive lineman in the league. However you couldn't tell that in 1991 as he had numerous mistakes on the field. Oates was a liability in pass protection as he was responsible for 15 of the sacks given up to Jeff Hostetler. Oates was still effective in run blocking, his specialty, but his lack of production in the pass protection game needs to be addressed.

Jets Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Bruce Coslet
Yrs: 2
Season Record: 8-8
Overall Record: 14-18 (.438)
Status: Coslet improved in his 2nd year as the Jets head coach. His first year last year was tough as he inherited a struggling team and the Jets only went 6-10. This season Coslet improved that mark by 2 games going a respectable 8-8, however dominance by the Bills and Dolphins in their division made it tough for New York. This following season will be an important year for Coslet as it will determine whether or not the Jets move to greater than .500 and start finding themselves in playoff discussion.

Jets Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
LB – Kyle Clifton

Offense – WR – Al Toon
Defense - LB – Kyle Clifton

Jets Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - LB – Mo Lewis – 88 Tak – 11 Loss – 7 Sack – 3 FF – 1 FR – 2 Int – 10 Deflections
Info: Rookie linebacker Mo Lewis was the primary reason the Jets defense improved in 1991. As a rookie he was 2nd on the team only to team MVP, Kyle Clifton, in tackles. His 7 sacks were also 2nd on the team to Jeff Lageman and Marvin Washington’s 8 sacks. Lewis proved his versatility on the field with two interceptions and ten deflections. The youngster has a bright future ahead of him if he can stay healthy and it appears the Jets are willing to give him that opportunity.

2. - C – Jim Sweeney – 57 Pancakes -7 Sacks Allowed
Info: Jim Sweeney is slowly escalating an exclusive ladder of elite centers in the NFL. It was through his solid blocking that the trio of Blair Thomas, Freeman McNeil, and Brad Baxter were able to combine for over 1,400 yards rushing and 14 rushing touchdowns.

3. - FB – Brad Baxter – 73 Att – 3.2 Avg – 236 Yds – 5 TD – 2 Fum – 11 Rec – 4.3 Avg – 48 Yds
Info: Fullback youngster Brad Baxter came into his own this season as he helped to establish a healthy two-back system in New York with half-backs Blair Thomas and Freeman McNeil. Baxter however was at his best in the red zone on goal line situations. He tied Blair Thomas for the team league in rushing touchdowns with 5 on the year.

Jets Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - QB – Ken O’Brien 261 of 467 Att – 55% - 2,683 Yds – 15 TD – 24 Int – 61.98 Rat
Info Ken O’Brien struggled throughout the year to maintain a high level of play for the Jets. He was incredibly inconsistent throughout the season. At times O’Brien would look like just the quarterback New York wants on their team, and then the next game he would stink it up with multiple interceptions and no touchdowns. Needless to say the blame is starting to fall on O’Brien as you can’t say he has a lack of weapons on offense. With Al Toon and Rob Moore emerging as solid receivers, and young Terance Mathis slowly making a name for himself the Jets certainly have the wide outs needed, the question is, can O’Brien deliver.

2. - LG – Mike Haight – 29 Pancakes – 11 Sacks Allowed
Info: Haight was 2nd on the team in sacks allowed, which is never a good thing. The left guard struggled and will have to redeem that next season if he wants to keep his starting job. The Jets have some capable players backing up in their offensive line like Paul Fairchild, Brett Miller, and Roger Duffy. If Haight wants to keep those players at bay then he’ll have to produce.

3. - CB – James Hasty – 40 Tak – 2 Loss – 2 Sacks – 2 FF – 1 Int – 13 Deflections
Info: Hasty didn’t do a bad job this year as the New York Jets number one cornerback, but he failed to reach expectations when it came to a very important defensive factor, turnovers. Hasty only had a single interception all year long, while he played well against the pass with 13 deflections the Jets would’ve liked to have seen him take the ball away more often.

Lions Year Report

Coach: Wayne Fontes
Yrs: 4
Season Record: 11-5
Overall Record: 31-22 (.585)
Status: After a shaky start Wayne Fontes has managed to help turn the Lions franchise around. Of course it helps that the team drafted and added Barry Sanders to the team during his helm. Fontes' Lions, for the second year in a row, have won their division and gone 11-5, this year barely beating out the Chicago Bears. Everybody was counting out the team but a 5 game win-streak mid-season against tough opponents put the Lions into the playoffs. Now Fontes needs to work with the team to get farther in the playoffs, and perhaps establish which quarterback will be the true leader for Detroit's future.

Lions Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
HB - Barry Sanders

Offense HB - Barry Sanders
Defense - LB Chris Spielman

Lions Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - LB Chris Spielman - 120 Tak - 8 Loss - 7 Sack - 1 FF - 1 FR - 1 Int - 1 TD - 11 Deflections
Info: Chris Spielman went from a disappointment last year to the team's defensive MVP this season. Spielman led the team by a large margin with 120 tackles on the year, nearly double last years total of 67. He also was second on the team only to Michael Cofer (8) in sacks with 7 on the year. Spielman gave the leadership that the Lions defense has needed to help refine their unit into a surprising contender.

2. - CB - Ray Crockett - 33 Tak - 1 FF - 1 FR - 5 Int - 1 TD - 4 Deflections
Info: Crockett stepped his game up in 1991 in comparison to 1990 as he made a big impact on the team in turnovers. He tied William White for the team lead in interceptions with 5 picks on the season. Crockett also managed to return one of those 52 yards for a touchdown. With Crockett slowly being molded into the future for the team at corner back it is helping to alleviate some pressure off of Bruce McNorton's responsibilities.

3. - HB - Barry Sanders - 396 Att - 4.5 Avg - 1,800 Yds - 12 TD - 3 Fum - 27 Rec - 10.9 Avg - 296 Yds - 2 Drops
Info: As if Barry Sanders couldn't have gotten any better, he crushed last years stellar 1,621 rushing yard 9 touchdown performance with a 1,800 yard 12 touchdown output in 1991. Sanders continues to be the focal point of the Lions offense and despite all teams acknowledging this he still average 4.5 yards per carry. The youngster is unlike any other running back this league has seen and hopefully will continue putting up these gaudy numbers in the future.

Lions Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - QB Rodney Peete - 109 of 220 Att - 49% - 1,407 Yds - 9 TD - 13 Int - 59.0 Rat
Info Rodney Peete started the season as the Detroit Lions starting quarterback, but that changed as it progressed. Peete struggled with only a 49% completion rate all year, and 9 touchdowns. He threw 13 interceptions and cost the Lions a few close games. Late in the season by a combination of injury and lack of production the Lions made the decision to go with Erik Kramer for the rest of the year. While Kramer barely completed more passes at 50% he was much more efficient in the red zone with 6 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. The Lions have stated they are hoping to make a decision as to who will be the starter this year in the next couple of weeks.

2. - TE - Kerry Cash - 10 Rec - 4.2 Avg - 42 Yds - 1 TD
Info: The Detroit Lions drafted Cash in the 1991 NFL Draft with the hopes that he would step in and become a draft steal. However Cash was far from effective at the tight end position and was a major hole in the Lions offense. The Lions wanted Cash to be a pass-catching tight end that would help open up the Lions passing game, but it's hard to open when you average less than one catch a game. Cash's only highlight was his solitary touchdown catch. If he wants any chance of remaining the Lions starter he'll have to improve a lot in the off season.

3. - DE - Dan Owens - 16 Tak - 2 Loss - 3 Sack
Info: Dan Owens is going to need to improve this off season to help the Detroit Lions defensive line. As the teams staring left defensive end he only accumulated 3 sacks on the entire year. He also didn't show much against the run as he accounted for a paltry 16 tackles on the year.

Oilers Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Jack Pardee
Yrs: 8
Season Record: 15-1
Overall Record: 71-51 (.582)
Status: Last year was a big year for Jack Pardee as he took the Oilers to the Super Bowl. It was unfortunate but the Oilers lost in the final seconds of the game to the Philadelphia Eagles. In order to try and return to the big game Pardee and the Oilers GM made a big move in the off season by acquiring star ex-Raider running back, Bo Jackson. Jackson's addition with Pardee's coaching produced the best record in Houston Oiler history with a 15-1 regular season, the team's only loss coming in week 8 in New England where the Patriots squeaked out a 26-21 victory. The Oilers were heavy favorites entering the playoffs and lost in a shoot-out against the hot Los Angeles Raiders, unable to stop the black hole's momentum. Pardee has 3 more years left on his contract. The next few seasons will play a very important role as to whether or not he is re-signed. It only takes a few more outs in the playoffs to have that Super Bowl near-win look less like an almost victory, and more like a disastrous loss.

QB - Warren Moon

Offense QB - Warren Moon
Defense - DT - Ray Childress

Oilers Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - HB - Bo Jackson - 277 Att - 1,306 Yds - 4.7 Avg - 14 TD - 5 Fum - 23 Rec - 9.1 Avg - 211 Yds - 2 TD
Info: The addition of Bo Jackson changed the Oilers game entirely as teams didn't just have to protect against Warren Moon's arieal attack. Jackson however exceeded expectations as he managed to stay relatively healthy throughout the year. The star running back managed to rush for 1,306 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jackson's 1,306 yards was the most rushing yardage by an Oiler runningback since Earl Campbell in 1981 and the most rushing touchdowns since Campbell's 19 in 1979. If Jackson can stay healthy he will have a bright future in Houston.

2. - WR - Ernest Givens - 88 Rec - 13.5 Avg - 1,189 Yds - 13 TD - 6 Drop
Info: It was expected that Haywood Jeffries would have a monster year with the retirement of Drew Hill, making him the Oilers legitimate number one wide receiver. However it was not expected that Ernest Givens would put up just as good numbers as Jeffries and combine for one of the more threatening wide receiver duos in the league. Jeffries was just 1 catch behind Jeffries and about 120 yards and 2 touchdowns. Otherwise the two were absolutely dominant.

3. - DT - Ray Childress - 61 Tak - 14 Loss - 12 Sack - 4 FF - 1 FR - 1 TD - 2 Deflections
Info: Last year Ray Childress struggled in pass rushing but was still a solid rush defender. This year Childress fixed that with a 12 sack season that saw him lead the Oilers defense in that category. He also managed to keep his rush attack up as he helped to bring down ball carries all over the field. He also managed to force 4 fumbles and picked one of them up for a touchdown return. Childress was given the honor of the Oiler's defensive MVP over other candidates in Al Smith and Lamar Lathon, as well as Richard Johnson.

Oilers Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - DE - Doug Smith - 33 Tak - 2 Loss - 3 Sack - 2 FF - 1 FR - 2 Deflections
Info Dough Smith dropped his production in 1991 after last years 40 tackle 6 sack season. The Oilers could've benefited greatly from Smith's pass attack but he failed to deliver in certain situations. Hopefully he can return to form next year and keep the Oilers defense top notch.

2. - CB - Patrick Allen - 40 Tak - 2 FF - 2 FR - 2 Int - 2 TD - 11 Deflections
Info: Patrick Allen certainly had a solid 1991 year but the only downfall was the lack of interceptions that he obtained. Last year he had 5 on the year and this year more than halved it to 2.

3. - K - Norm Johnson - 26 of 34 Att - 76% - 61 of 62 XP - 98% - 1 Blk
Info: Norm Johnson was brought in to the Oilers organization to improve over the loss of Teddy Garcia. Unfortunately for the Oilers he actually had a 4% less effeciency than Garcia. Johnson will need to step up his game to help the Oilers get over the edge.

Packers Year Report

Coach: Lindy Infante
Yrs: 4
Season Record: 7-9
Overall Record: 32-32 (.500)
Status: Well Infante had a solid tenure with the Packers but the Packers want to be better than a .500 team, which is what Infante managed to get in his 4 years as the team's head coach. Infante brought the team deep into the playoffs last season with a surprise 11-5 season. However this year was a let down as the Packers were tied for last in their division with the Vikings at 7-9. The Packers front office was quick to point fingers at Infante and decided that it was time to bring in a new offensive head coach that would establish a much needed game plan for the Packers. The Packers supposedly are looking at Mike Holmgren to come in and replace Infante this upcoming season. We shall see if he can do a better job.

Packers Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
CB - Cris Dishman

Offense – WR - Perry Kemp
Defense - CB – Cris Dishman

Packers Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - CB - Cris Dishman - 50 Tak - 1 FR - 6 Int - 1 TD - 23 Deflections
Info: Dishman surprised the entire Packer organization with a monster season that saw him leap-frog over Leroy Butler for the #2 cornerback spot by the time the 1991 season was over. Behind Jerry Holmes Dishman was making an impact his 50 tackles was the most of all Packer cornerbacks and he equaled Jerry Holmes 6 interceptions for the team lead. However it was his deflections that made him stand out with an astonishing 23 on the year.

2. - LB - Anthony Bell - 107 Tak - 14 Loss - 13 Sack - 4 FF - 2 FR - 1 Int - 9 Deflections
Info: Anthony Bell was signed by the Packers in the off-season to replace Tim Harris who they decided to let go because of his monetary demands. Harris however did have a defensive MVP season last year so many Packer fans were upset about this decision and questioned as to whether or not Anthony Bell could replace him. Bell took it upon himself to answer that question this season and boy did he ever. Bell led the team in tackles with 107 as well as sacks with 13 on the year. His 4 forced fumbles and interception made him a turnover machine that was one of the few positives the Packers had this year. If Bell continues this play people will begin to forget Harris.

3. - WR - Perry Kemp - 82 Rec - 10.4 Avg - 858 Yds - 10 TD - 4 Drop
Info: Last year Perry Kemp had a disappointing year with only 65 catches, 741 yards, and 3 touchdowns. However it was his 10 drops last year that made him an eye sore for Packers fans. Many were wondering if the 30 year old had already begun to hit his wall in terms of ability due to age. This year however, with the improved play of Don Majkowski, Kemp managed to rebound. Kemp led the Packers in receptions with 82 and was just 15 yards behind leading to Sterling Sharpe (873). However his 10 touchdowns was a remarkable improvement over last years 3 and he cut down the drops from 10 to 4 on the season.

Packers Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - HB - Keith Woodside - 137 Att - 3.1 Avg - 438 Yds - 4 Fum - 13 Rec - 9.2 Avg - 120 Yds
Info With the departure of Brent Fullwood clearing up some room on the Packers running back depth chart, Woodside was expected to remain the Packers starter. Last year he had 765 yards and 4 touchdowns in despite limited carries due to splitting with Brent Fullwood and Darrell Thompson. This year he was expected to outshine and produce starting running back figures, but he failed to do so. Woodside didn't find the endzone in 1991. In fact he was overtaken by rookie Leonard Russell for the teams starting job. With a 0.4 more yards per carry and 6 touchdowns instead of 0 Russell was the better man. Woodside may have lost his only opportunity to become a starter here in Green Bay with this season's mediocre output.

2. - K - Chris Jacke - 22 of 31 FG - 70% - 1 Blk - 29 of 29 XP - 100%
Info: Last year as a rookie Chris Jacke had a solid 83% field goal percentage which led the Packers to believe they had found their kicker of the future. This year though made the Packers second guess themselves. Jacke had trouble hitting them this year as he missed 9 field goals and ended the year with a paltry 70% figure. He'll need to improve that if wants to continue kicking for the Packers, or any team, in the near future.

3. - DE - Robert Brown - 28 Tak - 3 Loss - 3 Sack - 2 FF - 1 Deflection
Info: 31 year old veteran defensive end, Robert Brown, started to show signs of his aging in 1991. He had trouble rushing the pass and only finished with 3 sacks on the entire season. The Packers will be hard-pressed to find a replacement in the upcoming years if this decline continues.

Coach: Rod Rust
Yrs: 2
Season Record: 8-8
Overall Record: 20-12 (.625)
Status: Rust came back down to earth in 1991 after a 12-4 start with a surprising 1990 season for the New England Patriots. This year they dropped down to .500 as Rod Rust and company became the worst team in their competitive division behind the Jets, Dolphins, and Bills. However it is a good sign that despite loosing a few key players Rust was able to keep the team together and not go into a loosing year. This season will largely determine whether or not Rust finds himself remaining as the Patriots coach.

HB - John Stephens

Offense - HB - John Stephens
Defense - RE - Garin Veris

Patriots Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - WR - Irving Fryar - 78 Rec - 12.0 Avg - 939 Yds - 9 TD - 2 Drop
Info: Fryar improved over last years solid numbers to become the undisputed number 1 wide receiver in New England. He improved over last years numbers with a solid 939 yard performance and 9 touchdowns to overtake a contending Hart Lee Dykes for the team’s top receiver spot.

2. - RE – Garin Veris – 56 Tak – 8 Loss – 11 Sack – 2 FF – 2 Deflections[/ b]
Info: For a kid who’s lived in obscurity for the most part of his career and as the team’s starter last year only recorded 4 sacks, Garin Veris came out of nowhere. He led the Patriots with a solid 11 sack year and dominated opposing offensive lineman all year long. He was a rare bright spot on an otherwise lackluster Patriots pass rush. If he keeps this up Veris will no longer be a scarce name on the highlight reels.

3. - HB – John Stephens – 263 Att – 3.8 Avg – 1,009 Yds – 11 TD – 6 Fum – 38 Rec – 7.2 Avg – 275 Yds – 1 TD – 1 Drop
Info: 1991 was a repeat performance for John Stephens as he rushed for over 1,000 yards. He became the first Patriot running back to have back-to-back 1,000+ yard seasons since Jim Nance in 1966 and 1967. However the unexpected part was that Stephens became much more of a threat on the goal line as he acquired 12 total touchdowns this year compared to last seasons 8.

Patriots Player Letdowns

1. - DT – Tim Goad – 35 Tak – 1 Loss – 1 Sack – 5 Deflections
Info: Tim Goad was the Patriots starting defensive tackle. Let me repeat that, Tim Goad was the Patriots starting defensive tackle. Now the fact that you wouldn’t be able to distinguish that unless I told you by just looking at his stat line makes what Goad did in 1991 a let down. The Patriots pass rush received the shot in the arm it needed with Garin Veris exploded and Brent Williams playing up to par, it was Goad’s end that was slacking off and leaving a glaring hole in the defense.

2. - K – Jason Staurovsky – 19 of 30 FG – 63% - 34 of 35 Xp – 97%
Info: For the second year in a row Staurovsky has disappointed with a sub 70% field goal completion percentage. He’ll be hard pressed to keep his job now, as the Patriots will most likely be looking in another direction at the kicker position this off-season. When 4 of your losses come within 6 points and you have a kicker that’s missing field goals he starts to become a glaring liability, and unfortunately for Saturovsky that pretty much sums up his 1991 season.

3. - MLB – Johnny Rembert – No Stats
Info: Last year Johnny Rembert had 83 tackles, 5 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, a recovery, and 2 interceptions. However this year he didn’t record a single tackle. Unfortunately for the New England Patriots Johnny Rembert held out on the team and demanded more money for his services. As a result the Patriots took an unexpected stand and decided to not comply. As a result their backup filled in nicely much to Rembert’s chagrin and he was never called on for the rest of the season. There’s no doubt that Rembert will not be returning as a New England Patriots this off-season. The question becomes who would be willing tos gin a player that has the troubles he’s brought with him this year to their team.

Coach: Art Shell
Yrs: 3
Season Record: 9-7
Overall Record: 23-21 (.523)
Status: Art Shell is now entering into his 3rd year as the Raiders head coach and it is expected that this will be his true test in the ability to lead his team. Well 1991 was both a surprisingly good year, and one of the hardest for Raiders fans to deal with in their history. It was good in the sense that the team improved over last years 7-9 mark and flipped it to 9-7 and nabbed a playoff birth with a late victory over the Washington Redskins in week 17. It was marked by the emergence of Billy Joe Tolliver in the playoffs as a team leader and gave the Raiders numerous upset victories. The wild-card Raiders beat the Pittsburgh Steelers, Los Angeles Rams, and Buffalo Bills to enter into the Super Bowl. The unexpected team however would falter against the power house San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl and lost 41-21. However Shell has undoubtedly done the best he can with the team he's got in getting them to get a playoff birth and make it to the Super Bowl this year. However the loss has left a bitter taste in Raiders fans mouths and it'll be interesting to see how much leeway Shell gets over the next couple of seasons.

Raiders Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
HB - Marcus Allen

Offense - HB - Marcus Allen
Defense - LB - Ervin Randle

Raiders Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - HB - Marcus Allen - 319 Att - 3.7 Avg - 1,200 Yds - 7 TD - 2 FUm - 25 Rec - 6.5 Avg - 165 Yds
Info: Marcus Allen last year struggled during his limited playing time and was outshined by ex-teammate, Bo Jackson. A season ending injury also halted his production late last year and left Raiders fans disappointed. This year however Allen had no excuses as he was healthy and the Raiders let Bo Jackson go to Houston for a large contract. Allen made the most of his opportunity by returning to early 80's form with 1,200 yards, the most he's had since his career high 1,759 in 1985. At 31 years old Marcus Allen is still making plays in a Raiders uniform, but with only next season left on his contract it'll be interesting to see what Los Angeles does.

2. - MLB - Ervin Randle - 116 Tak - 11 Loss - 7 Sack - 2 FF - 2 FR - 3 Int - 12 Deflections
Info: Randle was a big off-season acquisition for the Raiders. The Raiders needed to solidify their linebacker corps and bring in a star to help their defense produce, and Randle did just that. Randle led the team in tackles with 116 as well as sacks with 7 on the year. His 3 interceptions tied saftey Eddie Anderson for 2nd on the team and he proved his ability to protect against the pass with 12 deflections on the year.

3. - CB - Lionel Washington - 45 Tak - 1 FF - 6 Int - 14 Deflections
Info: Washington helped shore up the Raiders pass defense with a much better 1991 season in comparison to last year. In 1990 he had 3 interceptions and Washington doubled that this year. HIs 14 deflections was tops on the roster and he made it hard for opposing wide receivers to break the big one.

Raiders Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - DE - Howie Long - 35 Tak - 4 Loss - 3 Sack - 1 Deflection
Info: The all-time great defensive end, Howie Long, is starting to slow down, that much was evident this year. The soon-to-be 32 year old defensive end had only 3 sacks all year long, less than half of last years 8. The lowest sack total Long has ever had was 3 in 1988 but thats because he played in only 7 games due to injury. Otherwise this was the worst production year for Long of his career. The aging defensive end will have to reverse this degradation next year if he wants to remain a top notch defensive end.

2. - LT - Rory Graves - 34 Pancakes - 15 Sacks Allowed
Info: Last year Graves had a great year with 58 pancakes and only 9 sacks allowed but he regressed in 1991. Graves was the weakest point on the Raiders offensive line allowing the most sacks at 15 on the season. He was also the 2nd lowest of all starters with 34 pancakes, 24 less than last year. Graves will hopefully improve this to help protect Billy Joe Tolliver or Jay Schroeder in the near future, whoever is in the backfield.

3. - WR - Willie Gault - 48 Rec - 12.3 Avg - 595 Yds - 5 TD - 10 Drop
Info: In 1990 Gault had 80 catches for 1,044 yards and 5 touchdowns, while he produced the same number of paydirt grabs in '91, he failed in every other category. Gault was easily the biggest liability in the pass as he had double the drops of the closest raider, Tim Brown (5). His 48 catches were barely 2nd on team and almost half of his production last year, as well as his 595 yards paling to his 1,044 yards. The veteran wide receiver is slowly being surpassed by youngsters like Tim Brown on the team. It certainly didn't help that the Raiders went out and drafted youngsters to put pressure on him in Michael Jackson and Jake Reed.

Rams Year Report
===================================================
Coach: John Robinson
Yrs: 9
Season Record: 11-5
Overall Record: 85-58 (.594)
Status: It'll be a very interesting offseason for John Robinson as the Rams attempt to figure out what to do with his future on the team. Robinson's contract expired at the end of the year. Last year's 7-9 performance led many people to believe that Robinson will be let go and the Rams would acquire another head coach. However this year he helped the Rams to a division victory in a 11-5 season. However the Rams were unable to perform in the playoffs. Robinson is close to .600 on his career as a head coach which is a very desired niche. If he re-signs with the Rams hopefully he can build momentum off of this 11-5 year. However if he reverts then it would be a horrible decision for the Rams.

Rams Team MVP

LB - Kevin Greene

Offense - WR - Willie Anderson
Defense - LB - Kevin Greene

Rams Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - S - Darrell Fullington - 94 Tak - 7 Loss - 8 Sack - 8 FF - 2 FR - 3 Int - 1 TD - 17 Deflections
Info: Darrell Fullington had one of the best seasons a saftey has ever had in the NFL in 1991. He was a monster on the field that could not be stopped and was only equaled by his own teammate, Kevin Greene. His 94 tackles were 2nd ont eh team as well as his 8 sacks. He came down with 3 interceptions on the year and returned one for a touchdown. Where he surprised though was his pass coverage as he led the Rams with an outstanding 17 deflections on the year. Fullington was a monster as well in forcing fumbles with a league leading 8 forced fumbles on the year. He averaged one force fumble every other game, that's a feat that few have ever done before.

2. - HB - Ricky Watters - 203 Att - 3.5 Avg - 718 Yds - 8 TD - 4 Fum - 50 Rec - 7.0 Avg - 351 Yds - 2 TD - 1 Drop
Info: The Rams have been trying to clean up their backfield situation for decades and they think they've found it in Ricky Watters. Rookie Watters over-took Curt Warner and Cleveland Gary in the first few weeks of the regular season to earn the Rams starting HB position. The rookie led the team with 718 yards and 8 touchdowns on the year. However where he was most useful was coming out on the flat as he caught 50 passes, 3rd on the team behind Willie Anderson and Henry Ellard. If Watters continues to improve with each year he's in the NFL he could turn into a top-notch running back. It'll be interesting to see what he's capable of, if he can keep his head in the game.

3. - WR - Willie Anderson - 77 Rec - 12.5 Avg - 964 Yds - 14 TD - 8 Drop
Info: Anderson continues to impress as the 26 year old led the team in receptions, yards, and touchdowns for the second year in the row despite actually being the number two wide receiver on the depth chart for the Rams. This year however must've solidified that Henry Ellard is no longer the Rams top receiver and it's actually Willie "Flipper" Anderson. Anderson will most likely slide into the #1 spot in 1992 and then we can truly see what the youngster is capable of.

Rams Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - C - Tom Newberry
Info: Newberry struggled all year with only 25 pancakes on the season but 12 sacks allowed, the 2nd most on the team to Jackie Slater (14). The difference is that Slater had 58 pancakes and led the team with those, which took the sting of those sacks allowed off. Newberry will have to improve these numbers if he wants to remain the Rams starter.

2. - CB - Darryl Henley - 32 Tak - 1 FF - 1 FR - 2 Int - 1 TD - 5 Deflections
Info: Certainly not a bad year for Henley but it could've easily been more productive. Henley only had 2 interceptions on the season but more importantly started to be come a liability int he passing game. The defense of the Rams struggled in protecting the pass because of Henley's lack of production. He had only 5 deflections all year and was burned a few times.

3. - K - Mike Lansford - 17 of 25 Att - 68% - 0 Blk - 47 Of 47 XP - 100%
Info: Lansford dropped down below 70% this year with only 17 of his 25 field goals going through the uprights. Lansford hopefully will improve in the off-season and remain the Rams starting kicker. The Rams need him to be more reliable if he wants to keep his job. Kickers have proven to be extremely expendable in a league that has short-term memory when it comes to Kicker production.

Redskins Year Report

Coach: Joe Gibbs
Yrs: 11
Season Record: 6-10
Overall Record: 106-62 (.631)
Status: Job Gibbs backtracked in 1991. In 1990 he led the Redskins to a 9-7 year that ended in disappointment. This year the Redskins were hoping to push over the edge and make the playoffs, but they fell short and ended up being the worst in their competitive division at 6-10. The Redskins franchise will have a tough decision to make at the end of the 1992 season as Joe Gibbs will be entering his final contracted year as the team's head coach. It's going to be interesting to see if the Redskins will actually release their all-time iconic head coach in favor of a spring chicken that'll upstart the team.

Redskins Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
LB - Wilbur Marshall

Offense - QB - Mark Rypien
Defense - LB - Wilbur Marshall

Redskins Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - LB - Wilbur Marshall - 121 Tak - 12 Loss - 7 Sack - 2 FF - 2 FR - 1 Int - 1 TD - 7 Deflections
Info: Marshall had a monster year that saw him take home the Redskins team MVP award. Marshall led the team with 121 tackles and has 7 sacks, tied for 2nd on the team with Keith Millard. Marshall proved his dominance and was the team's leader on defense. At 28 years old he is beginning to enter into his prime.

2. - DT - Leon Lett - 46 Tak - 11 Loss - 11 Sack - 2 FF - 1 Deflection
Info: Leon Lett had a dominating year as a rookie for the Washington Redskins. He managed to demolish opposing offensive lines despite his youth and led the Redskins with 11 sacks on the year. If Lett continues this he may become one of the best defensive tackles in the league. It is rare for a defensive tackle to be as good at pass rushing as Lett has been this year, and the Redskins are definately hoping that it wasn't a fluke year.

3. - MLB - Eugene Lockhart - 118 Tak - 3 Loss - 1 Sack - 1 FF - 2 FR - 2 Int - 8 Deflections
Info: Lockhart came over as a big free agent pickup for the Redskins to help improve their linebacker corps into one of the best in the league, and it did just that. Lockhart was barely 2nd on the team by 3 tackles in tackles with 118. He only had a single sack on the year but his two interceptions and 2 fumble recoveries showed his ability to create turnovers. Lockhart now has a year under his belt with the Redskins and it'll be interesting to see what the duo of Lockhart and Marshall can do for the next couple of years.

Redskins Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - WR - Art Monk - 59 Rec - 9.7 Avg - 577 Yds - 5 TD - 4 Drop
Info: Monk didn't produce much in 1991, but then again the entire pass offense of the Redskins struggled to produce. His 59 catches was 3rd on the team to Gary Clark and Jimmie Johnson, as well as his 577 yards. He was 2nd on the team in touchdown catches with a paltry 5 on the year. Coudl this be the beginning of the 34 year olds downfall?

2. - K - Chip Lohmiller - 24 of 35 FG - 68% - 26 of 27 XP - 96%
Info: Lohmiller struggled to a sub-70% field goal completion rate in 1991. The Redskins will need him to improve that if they want to remain competitive. Lohmiller is still young though and has pelnty of time to improve as he just celebrated his 26th birthday, which is barely born in terms of kicker age.

3. - QB - Mark Rypien - 281 of 510 Att - 55% - 2962 Yds - 20 TD - 20 Int - 68.9 Rat
Info: Whenever you have a sub-70.0 quarterback rating you know you've had a tough year. Rypien, despite having 20 touchdowns and nearly 3,000 yards, had a rough 1991 season. Rypien turned into a turnover machine with 20 interceptions and 6 fumbles on the year which was a large reason for the Redskins lack of offensive production. The veteran quarterback will need to improve if he doesn't want the Redskins to start looking for a replacement for the 29 year old.

Saints Year Report
===================================================
Coach: Jim Mora
Yrs: 6
Season Record: 6-10
Overall Record: 52-43 (.547)
Status: Jim Mora is very lucky to have a job at the moment because of the lack of progress that he is creating with the New Orleans Saints. Since 1987 Mora has declined every single season. From 1987's 12-3, 1988's 10-6, 1989's 9-7, 1990's 8-8, and now 1991's 6-10. Luckily for Mora it won't be hard to do much better than the Saints are currently doing. Mora signed a long-term deal with the Saints and luckily still has 5 years left on his contract. However if things don't improve soon the Saints might take it upon themselves to release him and take the cap penalty in order to find more effecient leadership.

Saints Individual Player Statistics

91_Saints_Statistics_2.jpg

Saints Team MVP
--------------------------------------------------------
LB - Rickey Jackson

Offense - WR - Eric Martin
Defense - LB - Rickey Jackson

Saints Player Standouts
---------------------------------------------------------------
1. - WR - Eric Martin - 73 Rec - 14.5 Avg - 1,059 Yds - 7 TD - 3 Drop
Info: Last year Eric Martin had to split the wide receiver load with Brett Perriman who the Saints eventually released to stardom with the Cardinals this year. In 1991 though Martin picked up Perriman's load and had a much better year this year compared to last. Martin led the team with 73 catches, 1,059 yards and 7 touchdowns, solidifying himself as the teams true number one wide receiver.

2. - CB - Robert Massey - 47 Tak - 2 Loss - 1 FR - 5 Int - 9 Deflections
Info: Massey improved on last years numbers with a solid 1991 campaign. Massey easily led the Saints in interceptions on the year with 5 and proved his worth making 47 tackles as a cornerback.

3. - C - Joel Hilgenberg - 52 Pancakes - 4 Sacks Allowed
Info: The 29 year old center, Joel Hilgenberg is entering into his prime age as an offensive lineman, and it showed in 1991. Hilgenberg demolished all teammates and had an outstanding season that had his name being spoken amongst the league's best at the center position. Hilgenberg led the Saints with 52 pancakes on the year and only allowed 4 sacks all year long, only bested by fellow starting O-Lineman, Stan Brock's 46 Pancakes and 3 Sacks Allowed. If Hilgenberg continues to play at this caliber over the next couple of seasons he will undoubtedly enter the upper echelon of centers in the NFL.

Saints Player Letdowns
-------------------------------------------------------------
1. - DE - Renaldo Turnbull - 12 Tak - 1 Loss - 1 Sack
Info: Turnbull was a solid defensive end prospect that the Saints had high hopes for. However after two years of backup production Turnbull may be loosing his window of opportunity. Last year Turnbull only had 6 tackles and a single sack on the season. This year he doubled his tackles to 12 but also had a single sack. Turnbull's attempted to fight for the starting job but was beaten out by rookie Michael Simmons. Turnbull will have to play harder if he wants to be given an opportunity to start again on the Saints roster.

2. - K - Morten Andersen - 20 of 29 FG - 68% - 2 Blk - 31 of 31 XP - 100%
Info: Last year Morten Andersen did fine with a 77% field goal completion rate, this year it plummeted down to 68% with two of his kicks being blocked. Andersen is one of the better kickers in the league but you would be unable to tell by looking at his 1991 performance.

3. - QB - Bobby Herbert - 265 of 493 Att - 53% - 3,213 Yds - 20 TD - 24 Int - 67.2 Rat
Info: Herbert improved on last years 2,270 yards 14 touchdowns performance by adding on 943 yards and 6 touchdowns to those numbers. However he also added on 4 interceptions to give himself 24 on the year. With a sub 1 touchdown to 1 interception ratio Herbert left much to be desired by the Saints team.
