Ok.

bama:
Jesus Christ you are dense.
The point wasn't that Forte would fair better. The point was the spending money on a slow power back and putting him behind a shitty offensive line serves no real purpose in relation to who t
he Bears could have had at RB when they already have a guy like Unga that can move the pile(which is what they brought him in to do).
Come on man, there is more to short yardage to just "moving the pile". Marcus Allen is one of the best goaline/short yardage backs ever, and he wasn't a "move the pile" kind of runner. It takes more skill than simply being a pile mover in many cases. And are you honestly trying to sell me that Unga is a better short yardage back than Barber? STFU already. and you call me dense. Unga bro?...Unga? Your answer is Unga? LOL
Bush and Sproles carried a lot more value to the Bears just by the mere fact of the scheme the Bears run.
Let me say this again, and I can't be any more clear, I agree with you here. Bush and Sproles would have been better for the team considering they fit the scheme better. This is a non sequitur at best.
Is Barber a better power back than Forte? Sure.
Ok, now we're getting somewhere. You're starting to see the light.
Is Forte more than capable of getting yardage in short situations if he has a bit better blocking? Yes.
HOLY FUCK!!! NO SHIT! Everybody is at least better when they get a bit better blocking. Dumb ass post! All things being equal, when they both play behind the same o-line, Barber is a better short yardage back. Period. If the Bears at some point upgrade their o-line, Barber will still be the better short yardage back. you. fucking. moron.
Hence, the Barber signing is useless if the Bears would have spent the money more wisely at OL(WHICH WOULD HAVE HELPED OUT ALL FACETS OF THE OFFENSE)
Replacing Olin for Spencer, not sure that helps, but they got younger. They could still bring in a lineman, who knows. Hopefully Barber can make do, he most certainly couldn't be any worse than Forte and company have been in short yardage. And he's a reliable back in other situations as well. Unlike Unga he can play a role outside of short yardage, and unlike Chester, he is younger and costs less money.
and they could have had MORE TALENTED RB's THAN MARION BARBER ADDED TO THE ROSTER.
For fuck sakes, NO! Bush and/or Sproles WERE NEVER EVER, NOT FOR A DAY, NOT FOR A SECOND, NOT EVEN IN YOUR DREAMS, EVER GOING TO BECOME TO CHICAGO. Get it out of your fucking mind, the Bears had NO SHOT at landing one of them.
You go from doubt to "no chance"?
Make up your mind.
SMH...you're splitting hairs. My doubt lay in the fact that the Bears weren't going to pay Bush's $11 mil price tag and even when they do restructure Bush would still demand more money than Barbers measly 2 year $5 mil contract. Reports are Bush ONLY accepted the trade because Miami offered him the Feature Back Role. In other words he was not going to come to Chicago to backup Forte. Sproles has played the backup before, and I think he wants more playing time, but I think his biggest motivation is playing for a winner, hence the Saints signing. The Bears are going in another direction. Now if the Bears would have thrown more money at these backs maybe you would have had a chance, hence the "doubt". But there was no chance of that happening, hence the "no chance".
Let me put it to you this way. Compared to Barber in short yardage... Unga, not that good. Taylor, not as good. Forte, not proven to say the least. Barber better and proven. The Bears have their feature back, great. To round out that backfield they needed a more qualified short yardage back. Unga and Taylor combined, maybe would have been ok. But bring in one of the leagues best short yardage backs and you instantly have a thunder and lightning combo that might just surprise you next year. Maybe not. Maybe all Barber does is pick up a few touchdowns Forte might not have. Maybe he gets a few first downs Forte might not have. But in this case, that's just helping win games, I have no idea why you would ever want that...:noidea:
If Barber doesn't pan out, oh fucking well. They only got him on a 2 year deal, for cheap no less. I think Chester Taylor is making more money next year in fact. If Barber pans out and you trade away/cut Taylor, good for them. If Barber doesn't fit in, you got Taylor for another 3 years I think.
Quit crying about Barber, you have a shit ton of other horrible of season shit to worry about than this guy.
