Reviewing the trash heap that has been the Bears Free Agency Period

The only valuable thing Barber will bring to the Bears is the ability to be an effective pass blocker. I see him being ineffective in just about every other way. Therefore the signing is blowing 2.5 mil.

Ok I'll play in imaginary land for a minute with you. Let's get real stupid and imagine Sproles would even consider an offer to play for the Bears. Motivation aside (assuming the Bears could throw enough money at Sproles to make him forget the touches he'll lose to Forte, and you can bet your sweet ass Sproles would have demanded far more than $3.5 per year to go to Chicago) fact of the matter is Sproles would still have to run behind that shitty oline you hate so much, and share time with Forte. More on that in a minute.

Barber is a low-reward player, because I don't see how he can be productive playing behind Forte. I don't see how Sproles could NOT be productive for the Bears, because he is a receiving threatForte, can go deep8.8 avg :nope:, can return kicks 1257 yds ok and punts 166 yds :nope: Hester is better at both., etc. If the Bears signed Sproles, he would immediately be one of the best receiving threats on the teamRoy Williams had more receiving yards and a 14.3 ypc, Hester had more receiving yards :smug: and... Sharing time with Forte brings his touches way down. The Bears signing Barber doesn't give them anything they don't already have.Except a credible short yardage back that the Bears need.

Besides Sproles was not ever ever ever ever considering the Bears. When Bush was traded, it took Sproles all of 5 seconds to make up his mind where he was going. The Bears had ZERO chance to get him...and you know he would have cost more than $3.5 mil to come to Chitown.

1257 of those all-purpose yards were return yards...um the Bears have the best returner in the fucking history of the NFL...allegedly. Use Hester here again and you won't miss those 1257.

520 of those all-purpose yards were receiving, Forte had 477 receiving yards himself, you'd hardly need two receiving backs at the same time, so why pay a guy to come in and do what you already have?

So in all actuality you're paying a guy $3.5 mil for for 267 rushing yards compared to $2.5 mil for 400. :noidea:

I love Sproles personally, and I kinda like Barber. But based on the information that Sproles was NEVER A FUCKING OPTION...who gives a shit who you would rather have. It does not matter. Barber is all they could get. Deal with it. Take Sproles out your mind, it was never going to happen, even if the Bears wanted him, which I'm sure they did.

Even before Barbers calf injury he was very ineffective and he's had enough injuries to where they've slowed him down for good. Barber has not been effective in short yardage and goal line recently so lets not kid ourselves on that either. Then add on he'll be playing behind the Bears offensive line. I expect similar numbers as to what Chester Taylor did which was absolutely horrendous. The ONLY thing he does well anymore is pass block.

I never understood why teams signed older aging veteran RB's. RB is probably the easiest position to draft and have immediate success. Signing these older backs when they've proven they are no longer effective and hope they can somehow turn it around is just dumb. It's proven not to work several times.

I wouldn't be bringing in Sproles to carry the football a ton. I'd be bringing him in to be more of a pass catching RB option out of the backfield with Forte and Taylor maininly sucking up carries.

Forte isn't simply a "receiving back" he's proven himself more than a capable runner. Using Sproles or Bush out of the slot like the Rams used to do with Faulk and using him in the passing attack while allow Forte and Taylor to take carries would have been the goal. Again, more options in the passing attack when the Bears just traded Greg Olsen, wouldn't have been a bad thing.

ALL of this fantasy crap is a moot. Sproles is not going to be a Bear. So you're wasting your breath, and everybody else's time. If you want to play around in imaginary land, go play Madden 11. It's the only place you can draw Sproles in to play backup to Forte. In real life, Sproles wants nothing to do with that situation. Nothing at all...hence the zero chance the Bears had at signing him, considering their free agent strategy is to spend as little as possible for players that need something to prove.

As for Barber, I've never considered him a starter, but I think he's better then any of Chicago's backups. So good luck with it, at least he didn't cost very much.

I'm not gonna comment on Roy Williams because he was the next big thing for a long time and I think there were alot of reasons why it didnt work out in Dallas (mostly way-too-high-expectations).

I just think that James Jones was the move here. Green Bay didnt need him after Jordy Nelson's monster superbowl, Donald Drive has at least another year, if not two of high productivity, and Greg Jennings (who, by the way, was the guy GB got for Javon Walker. HAHA) is a bonafide top 5 reciever. GB took Jones back because he didnt have any value anywhere else. with Aromashadu bailing, James Jones was the 1 move that made perfect sense for the Bears, and yeah the guy is overrated... but Devin Hester is never going to be anything other than a glorified kick returner.
