Agreed, they do play basketball like the teams we grew up watching. There were still superstars but nobody was above the coach sitting them down if they weren't playing well or decided to go away from the game plan. I've seen interviews with past players from the Spurs saying that Timmy allowed himself to be held to account by Pop in practice and in games and that that set the tone that nobody was bigger than the team. The comment was loosely "if Pop is up in the grill of one of the best players in NBA history for his mistakes, I better get my act together and buckle down in practice and game situations if I want to stay on this roster".

They play ball the way it was played when I watched multiple games a week back when I was in high school.
I love watching the fundamentals of the sport rather than the trash we see in the NBA these days. The Spurs play fundamental basketball and win without big name players.

I think he is done this season if they win the title, even though he has already said he is coming back next season. Pop has said before that he retires when Timmy does so that is also looming in the future.

But it starts at the top - that's why the Spurs, Heat, Patriots, Steelers, Giants, Cardinals(baseball), etc., have consistent success - smart ownership and one philosophy throughout the organization.
Look at the Knicks - big market team, willing to spend, but only one playoff series win in 14 years. Their dysfunction comes from the top.

The only guy past his prime is Duncan.. and even then he's still a very dependable player.
Tony Parker is a Top 2 point guard in basketball right now .. depending on where you rank Chris Paul. Kawhi Leonard is one of the better young players in the game. And their role players are excellent.
There are reasons they just ran the MVP and co off the floor in 2 games.
