I'm loving how everybody is suddenly an authority on the Spurs. Half of the people in this thread probably couldn't have named the "Big 3" if not for the video in the original post. ESPN would cut away from a Spurs game to show women's synchronized swimming if they got the chance but suddenly everybody on the roster is a household name :lol2:

They play ball the way it was played when I watched multiple games a week back when I was in high school.

I love watching the fundamentals of the sport rather than the trash we see in the NBA these days. The Spurs play fundamental basketball and win without big name players.

Just because ESPN ball slobs LeBron on a 24/7 basis doesn't mean the casual sports fan doesn't know who Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are. Come on man.

And how many casual fans really know the role players on any of these teams any more?

I think with their longevity and the franchise's success they could be considered big names, regardless of the "lack of coverage" they get nowadays. The casual sports fan does not know much about the Spurs because they watch tabloid sports news (ESPN). Any true NBA fan would know who they are because they are actually watching games. Most people at VSN do not watch the NBA based on the thread activity in the NBA section. The NFL and MLB are the major sports if you look at the activity.

actually I only came to this thread for more of Buckeyes foot in mouth philosophies but having watched the Lakers for 20 years I'm incredibly aware who the Spurs big 3 are. When a couple of white/lighter skinned players are on the same team and the team is doing well you take notice LOL

I really like the Spurs and love to watch them play, but I really wouldn't think of them as "big name" players other than Tim Duncan. Yes, they are consistent. Yes, Tim Duncan is arguably the greatest PF of all time. Yes, they won championships. But that doesn't mean that they are big names.

Seems odd, but think about it. Tony Parker is among the most consistent PGs in the game, but rarely is able to crack the "Top 3" rankings for his position. Manu Ginobli has lost a step over the years, but never gets the attention as 6th man like he used to. Tim Duncan is the quietest superstar who rarely sees a SportsCenter highlight.

I'm not calling them underrated because anyone with a mind for basketball knows the Spurs are a great team. However, in today's basketball world of shoe deals and dunk-o-meters, they get little to no airtime. Hell, we used to hear more about Boston's "Big Three" and their one title than the Spurs and their four titles.

Hell he was a top 3 player overall last year before the injury, regardless of position.

PER isn't the end all be all... Unless you SRSly think Patty Mills was a better PG than Lillard this year.

I don't think Parker has been a consistent top 3 PG like PT says, but he's definitely been a household name for some time now. Same goes for Manu.
