Your point would make some sense of they were swinging sticks or trying to cut each other with blades attached to their shoes. Were talking about hits, that as far as I know were deemed legal by the NFL at the time, now in question because someone laid down $10,000 on a table as incentive.

Just because it happened before and there weren't penalties or outcry doesn't mean going forward there shouldn't be. The rules of the league should evolve with increased awareness and education.

That's fine, I don't have a problem with the league taking action. But the punishment they handed out is laughable...

As others mentioned though, this didn't exactly come out of left field.

The organization got warnings and chose to look the other way. Thus, they'll get higher punishments than if they had just owned up to it and took action right away.

In a league where former players are suing the NFL for negligence in regards to their health and well-being the league has to come down hard on this sort of thing. They can’t be in the courts arguing how they care about players safety and have coaches enabling this sort of culture

Not arguing against the lasting effects of playing football or the NFL's crusade to clean it up, just your silly comment that these guys are lucky they weren't put up on charges. I'm just asking to keep things in perspective here, thats all....

And I agree. But for me there's coming down hard....and then there's what was reported here. If the punishment is for that act itself and that alone, than I think it's nuts. If they piled on because the Saints lack of cooperation to the investigation, than that might be another story. I'd like to read more about it..

Brees is a dipshit and a phoney.

For a guy who is widely regarded to be such a great team leader, there is no way he didnt know this was happening and that Payton condoned it. There is also no way Brees wasnt aware of the convicted felon with orginized crime ties involved in this, since the guy was frequently standing on the sideline in Saints gear at home games.

Brees should just stfu and distance himself instead of making ridicuous see through statements where he plays dumb. He's a self rightous phoney.
