Yeah I mean it's the same in football, you hate seeing these knock out shots now that we know what is at stake for the player getting hit but growing up those are the kinds of shots we'd try to deliver on the other team to FIRE UP our teammates. In Pee Wee football we even got helmet stickers for "de-cleaters" lol.

So it's hard to change a culture that glorifies violence while at the same time harnessing that violence into a more humane atmosphere.

The whole point is that the NHL's position is conflicting when it comes to reducing concussions. They say they want to reduce concussions but at the same time they allow fighting which poses an unnecessary risk to the players' health. If the NHL wants to say that fighting will stay because it's entertaining side aspect of the sport, then so be it. At the same time, they should just drop the act of saying they want to protect players from concussions and head trauma. The NHL truly doesn't care about the health of their players because they aren't eliminating unnecessary risks to the sport. You can't even defend the NHL's position on protecting players without completely ignoring logic. The Olympics and many forms of amateur hockey exist without fighting. Why can't the NHL?

You don't think a fight in football or basketball would fire players up too? Based on that we should let them go at it and stop the game while they do. My whole argument has been that it is hypocritical for the NHL to say they want to limit concussions yet they allow fighting to continue when it is not part of the game and contributes to concussions, even if it isn't the leading cause.
