What a terrible main event. Very underwhelming for all the trash talking.

Overeem might be in trouble against Bigfoot Silva. He will need to really respect Silva's power moreso than he did against Werdum.

I think this fight might have been worse than Melendez/Aoki. The only thing tonight had on it was the fact that it only went three rounds instead of the former's five...and there was no bawling Asian post-fight.

Can someone explain to me how Overeem won this fight? Or at the very least, won 30-27 on two cards?

Werdum technically out fought Overeem and should have won. But these judges will never award a fight to a guy who was physically inferior and spent the fight on his back "like a pussy" (read the chatbox archives for what casuals thought of Werdum).

Round 1 was Overeem...Werdum was baiting the whole 1st round to no avail...

Round 2 he got Overeem on the ground a bit more but Werdum was striking pretty good.

Last round Werdum had him on the ground but just couldn't get Overeem.

Still the whole fight it just seemed like Werdum was on his back though? trying to bait Overeem...just seemed that way from my novice perspective.

The fight was terrible, and neither man really deserved to win.

With that said, I thought Werdum outstruck Overeem in round 1, Overeem dominated round 2, and then Werdum outstruck Overeem again in round 3 (plus had the kneebar at the end).

When I looked up the stats, what I thought I saw was confirmed. 29-28 Werdum IMO.

More active striking, and Werdum clearly controlled the pace and dictated the "action". And the only sub attempt at the end. Overeem landed the one big knee, and that was it.

I knew the judges were not going to give the fight to Werdum, because Overeem was physically dominant, and Werdum did all of the butt scooting and pulling guard, which is something judges frown upon. But when it was standing, Werdum got the better of Overeem.

I was shocked Werdum gassed so quickly.

Both men looked like dogshit, Bigfoot has to be the favorite to beat Overeem at this point.

2 was Overeem, 3 was Werdum (Cecil Fuck You Peoples and another judge had all 3 for Overeem)

Fight sucked, did nobody any favors. Overeem should have had a star making performance, and he didn't. Let's go Silva or Barnett.

Actually, Silva vs. Barnett sounds like a hell of a fight right now.

Overeem won the fight, just landed more doesnt mean everything, he landed some nice shots, but a lot of pitter patter, plus when someone hits you and you flop, thats technically a knock down

Overeem had like 50 TD's with the throws, knockdowns with the flops, etc...

I wasnt impressed by Overeem, but Werdum was a clown last night, the correct fighter won

cormier has ben working on his striking for about 2 years, Monson his whole career, lol, some guys just can't do it, Monson, Shields and Aoki are the best examples

That is how Overeem fights, he lets you throw and than blasts, but in the 3rd he was gassed, in K1 he takes shots to deliver the big shot, didnt work for him well last night because Werdum flopped everytime Overeem threw back, so they should and did score them as knockdowns

The only possible round you could give to Werdum was the 3rd, Overeem won easily, impressively? No, but still easily

Sidenote: No way Werdum would have knocked him out with those shots

It's hard for anyone to look good against the awkward and sloppy style that Werdum fought with last night. This was pretty much Overeem's Chieck Kongo fight.

People shit on Cain for his bad peformance against Kongo, but he came back from that in dominant form. I expect the same outcome for Overeem.

To add on to the KJ/Masvidal fight, KJ is no pretty boy like many MMA fans think, fought his ass off after taking a shin kick to the jaw, many shots, knees straight to the chin, amazing heart, he is a fighter

I was rather impressed by Werdum on his feet, but his shots werent doing much damage and the way THE REEM was just throwing him off when he was going for TDs does nothing for me to reward Werdum. Butt scooting and trying to bait Allistair to the ground is nothing worthy of praise, it made for a terrible main event and no fighter was able to get into any rhythm because of it. Allistair wasnt willing to put himself out there to be caught in something, he fought smart, fought well, and clearly won the fight IMO. Its not like Werdum was doing a ton of work from his back when THE REEM was on top of him, either. It wasnt the most impressive performance by Allistair thats for sure, but he did enough to win and I expect a different kind of fight against Big Foot.

THE REEM vs Big Foot will be much different and a great fight, plus I would like to add that this is a tournament format and they are talking about a quick turnaround, Overeem and Barnett needed to get out without much injury and looks like they both did
