That is how Overeem fights, he lets you throw and than blasts, but in the 3rd he was gassed, in K1 he takes shots to deliver the big shot, didnt work for him well last night because Werdum flopped everytime Overeem threw back, so they should and did score them as knockdowns

The only possible round you could give to Werdum was the 3rd, Overeem won easily, impressively? No, but still easily

Sidenote: No way Werdum would have knocked him out with those shots

That was the problem last night. More clueless judging. Flops may not be fun to watch, or even courageous, but they are not takedowns. Overeem throwing Werdum to the ground are not takedowns either, especially since he never followed up on it when he did it.

Neither man did any damage, and both guys gassed. Werdum landed more, had better combos, and had the late sub attempt. He was the lesser of two terds. But nobody is going to give a fight to a guy who butt scooted for three rounds and looked so physically inferior with the throwdowns and what not. If you are scoring this fight on a purely technical level, Werdum won.

I had it 29-28 Werdum. He "won" the 1st & 3rd. The 1st was close, so I wouldnt call this a robbery or complain, and Werdum didnt really deserve to win, but I do think they got it wrong, especially the 30-27 judges.

Yes, but in the 3rd round that plan should have gone out the window. Even that sub attempt late was never going to be successful. Shit, both men were gassed by that point.

Even if it meant risking getting KO'd himself, Werdum should have went balls to the wall in the final 3 minutes.

In heavyweight rankings, Overeem has to move up only because he beat Werdum who beat Fedor. I'd probably put Silva ahead of Overeem right now.

if someone hits you and you fall it's a knockdown, very simple, baiting/ flopping or not, you get hit and fall, it's a knockdowm plain and simple, thats the chance you take, it worked against fedor, not for sergei and overeem

Werdum definitely fought like a clown and made a mockery of the sport last night, but Overeem didn't do anything to win that fight. I had Werdum winning the 1st and 3rd rounds. Yes, he stalled, yes he delayed, and constantly flopped. But, by doing that he completely made Overeem ineffective. There's nothing in the book that says a fighter should be penalized by the judges for stalling or pulling guard. It was a lame strategy, but you can only score the fight based on effectiveness. Overeem did squat in the first round. The third was closer, but still the edge has to go to Werdum. He landed more shots, cleaner shots, he pressed and controlled the fight. He took Overeem completely out of his game, he frustrated him, and yes he did have him rocked and dazed once or twice. Werdum, say what you want about that gameplan, but there's no question he was robbed of a victory.

How so? Cormier/Monson was a good match-up, especially for Cormier. The biggest test of his young career, by far. Didn't expect it to be so one-sided, but a test nonetheless.

I agree with everything he said except the robbery part. The first round was close enough to where I can't call it a robbery no matter what side ended up winning. But Mamba makes valid points otherwise. Werdum did not fight an asthetically pleasing style, but was more effective in almost all areas.

Effective striking - neither man a clear winner, but Werdum scored with more strikes and with a higher percentage.

Cage control - no question who wins this. Werdum took Overeem completely out of his game, and frustrated him. It was Werdums pace, even if it was ugly. Ugly style is not a reason to deduct points. Even standing, where Overeem should have had a huge edge, Werdum did more.

Grappling - next to nothing here from either, but Werdum had the late (albeit weak) sub attempt at the end of the third.

Look, if you are scoring this fight from a technical standpoint, Werdum was less shitty. Cant say he was robbed, though.
