[Super Bowl XLV] Green Bay Packers (13-6) vs Pittsburgh Steelers (14-4)

Anyway, it's nice conversing with a rational fan and not some trash talking homer. I have a lot of respect for the steeler organization. They've had top notch org for quite a while.

If the steeler's win, I'll be making a congrats post.

I'll admit I have at times been a raging troll in the past. I don't know what it is with the interwebs that bring that out of people, and I've been guilty of it myself.

Defensive backfield and DLineman are much better today than in 09. And GB was in there first year of the 3-4 with a bump and run corner in Harris. Gonna be MUCH different this time around.

I don't think there is as much separating the D's as you think. We will see.

Not saying the steeler's won't win or that they won't blow GB out, but I really am not expecting that. I guess that's why they play the game.

It's not possible for you to know what I think, and I agree when it comes to pass D the teams are very very similar. But let me give you some facts that I think will clearly draw a picture of what I think.

As I said before and I think you'll agree, the pass D of both teams are on par. They are #1 and #2 in sacks and only separated by 3 picks.
Let me be honest I really like the Packers pass D, they play very well in coverage, blitz well, cause havoc and turnovers. The Steelers and Packers are on par with causing Sacks and INTs. I like the Packs corners better, but everything else on the Steelers D I think is as good or better. But what separates them is the Steelers D run defense, which as I stated before is on it's own level.

Steelers have only allowed 62 yard rushing per game, over 30 yards better than the #2 rush D. They also only allowed a 3.0 yards per carry average.
In comparison the Packers allowed 115 yards per game and considering that the Pack allowed the second worst yards per carry average with 4.7 you can see why I consider the Steelers run D far and away better than the Packers.

To further my point the Steelers just held the leagues best rushing attack to 1 yard for an entire half. 70 yards total after averaging 140 per game all season.

So yeah when I say the Steelers run D is on it's own level, I mean they are by far the best run D in the league this year, and it's not even close. Green Bay's run D isn't anywhere as good, and I think the facts support that statement.

I do not make predictions when my team is playing so I'm not going to make an official Super Bowl pick. But I do think it's a 50/50 game that I expect to go down to the wire, and I will be surprised if the game is decided by more than 1 score. I could also expect a defensive battle since these are the two best scoring defenses in the NFL.

But either way... I'm incredibly stoked for this game and by the end of the game I will either be the happiest guy in Winnipeg, or one of the most distraught. The last thing I want is a 6th gutwrenching playoff loss since '96.

As for the game, Green Bay is a team built for domes/fast tracks, Pittsburgh is not... If Green Bay can protect Rodgers and get some semblance of a running game, GB will win...

I take it as neither team is unbeatable, and both teams and fans have reasons to be very optimistic.

Neither team looks unbeatable. Both teams look strong. Both have reasons to believe they can win the SB.

I don't disagree with this at all. Steelers running attack is also better than GB's.

I think GB's passing attack is much better than the Steelers.

Like I said in another post.....Both teams and fans have reasons to be optimistic. I would not at all be surprised with a steelers win. They are a very good team and organization. I also believe GB can beat them.

That may sound a little wishy washy, but it's being honest. I like your team, but I like mine too.

The only thing that scares me about the Super Bowl is the Steelers typically only play one half of great football. Going all the way back to the Arizona matchup, we had one hell of a first half, but let the Cards linger around and take the lead with little time left. Against Baltimore we sucked in first half going into the locker room 12-0 only to come out swinging to finish the game out. Against the Jets I think the Steelers played the best post season football I've seen them play yet, only to go scoreless in the second half. I'm just afraid we've found a team in the Packers that might have what it takes offensive and defensively to overcome. I'm worried we just won't have the steam this game or the magic come 4th quarter. My gut tells me the only way we're going to win is to take away the run game, and force Rodgers to win the game by himself. Rodgers is the best QB in the NFL against the blitz and that's where my worry comes from I guess.

Edit: Homer aside I'm still predicting the Steelers. Keep it real, from head coach to waterboy, from QB to Punter, I think we have the better team overall.

Like others I'll pick the Packers. Should be a good game though. My biggest fear though is what happened last year in the game against Pitt and against Arizona and has happened a few times this year, that they will pick us apart over the middle. If there is a weak spot in this defense, its the middle of the field. Teams have had a good amount of success with short passes over the middle. Pittsburgh did it last year. I don't know why more teams don't attack us like that.
