Superbowl Ring or Hall of Fame?

Winning a championship is mostly luck, being on the right team at the right time.

......my goal when I played sports was to play as well as I possibly could. That was the one thing I could control.......I do everything I can to win, but I also understand that sometimes things don't work out as you had planned.

My thoughts exactly. IMO winning is a lot more circumstantial than what people would like to believe. I know, I know....Joe Montana this, John Elway that, but winning in all sports is circumstantial. You need the organization, the coaches and the players to ultimately reach the pinnacle. Is Tomlinson any less of a player because he didn't win a championship? No! Would he be any less of a player if he isn't a HOFer? Yes.

The main reason you play sports, at least it should be, is to win games. You play to win championships. I think the HOF is great because it recognizes athletes who greatly contributed to the sport they played in. But it shouldn't be more important then winning a championship. For me a good player who contributed in multiple championship seasons holds more weight than a HOF who didn't win anything.

So, what you're saying is that Robert Horry's career "holds more weight" than Baylor, Barkley, Ewing, Malon/Stockton, etc?

If you make the Hall of Fame, you live forever...people will always be able to come and see you and learn about what you did.

A ring is something which could be passed down, but it's not this grand thing. A scrub special teamer can get a ring. Only the greats get in the HOF.

Horry was a solid role player....I'd say he was good....certainly above average.

Think about this.

Would you rather tell your grand-children, "Hey, you know that team that won the 2012 Super Bowl, the Green Bay Packers? I played for that team."

OR

Take a day-trip to Canton, Ohio, enter the hall of fame, walk up to the face and plaque and be like, "That's me. I'm one of the greatest of all time."

You might not get into the Hall till after youve past away/died, and you wont care by then.

A Super Bowl is better because you can experience the accomplishment and feel it for years after. And share it with teamates as a bond

Ladainian Tomlinson say that a HOF Bust is better and would rather be a "Hall of Fame player without a ring, because you’ve got to sacrifice so much individually just to be good. They draft you individually and you’ve got to back them up and make them right.” Tomlinson claims that individual accomplishments because its harder to be great in the NFL than to win a ring.

Teddy Brushci says a Superbowl Ring is better and would rather win “A Super Bowl, a championship is something you earn, And it’s something that can never be taken away. And no one can stop you from doing that.” Brushci claims that the HOF is decided by 44 guys while a ring is decided on the field.

Obviously both men are biased because Tomlinson has the HOF career with no rings and Brushci has the rings but no HOF career.

Which one would you guys rather have?

Me personally I think the ring is the the better thing to have, because no matter how good your career is without a ring your always gonna be the "best without a ring" instead of one of the best. Just ask Lebron what he wanted more.

WHOA... huge difference between who wants HoF or a ring, and who wants to be the greatest player of all time, in a sport where only 5 people take the field/court at a time. LeBron has an infinite amount more control over winning a ring than any NFL player could ever hope for. Bruschi, after hsi TV career, will be a forgotten man... LT will live forever in Canton.

The fact is he failed getting to Super Bowl so of course he will say something stupid like that.

i agree with you on this. Its not so much asking if you rather be Trent Dilfer or Dan Marino as those are to players light years away (although when i here trent dilfer speak he seems to think hes elite). I think a better question would be to ask would you rather be someone like Curtis Martin or a David Tyree.

Another question is would you rather have your team win a superbowl or send a player to the HOF

Ok. Let me rephrase my point then and be a little more direct so we don't include bench players who won NBA Championships. Tedy Bruschi's career > LT's career. Just my opinion.

The point is that truly great players can indeed lift their team to a title. Circumstance this, surrounding cast that... All excuses in my mind.


The true greats have personalities which lift the spirit of the entire team.... A cutthroat attitude which leads by example and carries a squad. Everyone who is capable of starting in the nfl is extremely talented. A lot of the separation between players is entirely mental. The greats know how to bring out the best in those around them, by taking control and leading a squad.



Certainly there are years when it just isn't possible due to surrounding cast, but over an entire career you better believe a truly special player should win at least one title.


HOF or title? For an elite player, they are hard to distinguish between in terms of importance; they should have both.

In real world terms. You can be in the league one lousy year and have a SB ring.
HOFer your likely to have been in the league at least a decade , made minimum of 3-5 million dollars , youll have an NFL pension ((currently valued at 4 bandaids an aspirin and 6 rolls of toilet paper)) , at least one trip to Hawaii , one trip to Canton Ohio , and several designer tailored suits given to you for free , plus a charming yellow blazer.
Im not sure how much a yellow blazer would go for on Ebay...but its gotta be somewhere above a Hacksaw Jim Duggan Signed 2x4 but slightly below a Lance Armstrong tour used seat.

HoF > SB ring. any football player should value them as such. but as an nonathletic white guy with no job, i want the SB ring. i agree that if i was a player in the NFL i would probably want the HoF glory.

Because my name and legacy would last for the rest of the time this country does. Can't take a ring with you when you die, but I can leave my name behind for future greats to be measured up to.
