Ok but the blocking does differ a bit from the straight line power scheme we had been running for the past two seasons.. A change that is happening in season using the same personnel.

No, it really doesnt... the only thing that changes is the one guy they leave unblocked, and that isnt exactly rocket science, especially for NFL offensive linemen... the only huge difference b/t this and any other run oriented offense in the NFL is that the QB will sometimes keep the ball... like i said, it isnt rocket science...

Fine, clearly NFL teams can just install this 10 minutes prior to kick off, try it out in the pregame workouts and things will be just peachy... Nothing in the NFL is rocket science, it's still football..

team pretty much did this with the wildcat, back when it was popular...

Again the point is that other teams have been taking reps in the same scheme for 4 months, in the NFL that matters and if it didn't then teams wouldn't start practice in May.

glen, i have installed this offense at 4 different high schools, all in less than a week... an NFL staff is certainly better at doing this kind of thing than i am... stop acting like this is a complete overhaul with an uber complicated scheme, b/c it really isnt... its minor changes to the offense already in place...

I think another thing that a lot of people are forgetting is that Denver is still in the process of installing this offense.

Sure, Tebow is more comfortable with the scheme but last time he checked he's the only on on our offense that played in Meyer/Mullen's scheme. Every other team in the league had a full preseason and now 10 weeks of the regular season to perfect their offense, we're still adding new stuff every week. So far it's week 3 of a process that usually takes an entire off-season of mini-camps followed by training camps and a preseason.

Not like that would have anything to do with offensive efficiency...

That will work for and against Tebow and the Broncos, though, because as they add stuff to the offense, teams will begin to get stuff on film and be able to gameplan better for the offense.

I'm not rooting against Tebow but I still think this is a flash in the pan and it won't last long - unless Tebow can improve his accuracy and start completing more passes.

The offense will be easy to stop once defenses get more film. It's simple assignment football and it is very similar to the Wildcat offense that took the league by storm a couple seasons ago.

Like I said, Tebow will need to get better at passing or the Broncos aren't going to go anywhere with this offense.

Never said it was complicated I said it was different. Your HS resume is very impressive and while I agree that NFL coaches could probably get it installed faster they still have to go against coaches and coordinators who have faced it before and are probably just a tad bit better at what they do than the gym coach at Thomas Jefferson High School and PoDunk, West Virginia.. Just a hunch.

so what are you arguing now??? that b/c NFL defenses are so well coached, that is what makes this offense hard to install??? cmon glen, you are running in circles now... btw, two state titles in FL bitch, jus sayin... :lesmug:

Yeah I think it matters that NFL DCs are better are stopping teams than HS coaches or maybe just that pros are better athletes than HS kids, even in Florida believe it or not. I think that makes it a little harder to change a pro style passing team into an read option team. If not why don't you have a college or pro job by now?

And I never said it was hard to install I said the team was growing into it. Maybe it's a little harder to install because our OC, QB, RB and WR coaches as well as our head coach have no experience with it but the biggest thing is that the offensive unit is young and raw and barely learning the first offense they were given this year, yet alone their second.

The point remains, Denver has significantly less practice running their offense than the rest of the NFL besides maybe the Raiders because of the QB situation. And if that doesn't matter than I have a call to make because apparently we can cancel mini-camps and the preseason and save teams millions of dollars on roster and workout bonuses because we can just throw this shit together in 10 seconds according to Atlas and go out there and be world beaters...

glen, you are totally missing my point... this isnt a compete overhaul of the offense... they just took the offense they had, installed a few zone read wrinkles to it, and went from there... they don't have to take the offensive line into the meeting rooms, sit them down and explain how the blocking is different, b/c it isnt... everything is the exact fucking same as their regular running plays (assignment wise), except for now, the QB is a run option... however, you can continue to overreact to all my posts, b/c i dont have any experience with this kind of thing and ive never had to play or coach in/against an offense like this at the HS or college level... you are the expert, i bow to you...

Yeah, blocking schemes are blocking schemes. Directions and concepts may change but zone is still zone and power is still power. If the offensive line knows the blocking scheme (which they do in the pros), you could put in three new plays while your offense is on the sideline if you wanted.

Atlas does kind of have a point though. Nothing changes for the lineman, most of the sight reads are on the QB. And Tebow of course is familiar with making those reads from his collegiate days.

Anyway, people are forgetting that the Falcons tried running strictly zone read in 2006 and it worked for two games then completely fell apart.

That still shouldn't be overly difficult for a professional lineman. They've all used zone/power/belly/trap/etc concepts since they were in HS. The "zone blocking scheme" is more of a media term; I don't know one team in the NFL that doesn't use it.

What DOES probably need timing is pitch relationship, which is what you were saying. And that will take some time to wrinkle out. So I agree with your point. What am I doing here?? :shifty:

What about the running backs, wide receivers and tight ends? Outside of McGahee and Fells we have a hodgepodge of youngsters and former basketball players at those spots. They don't have any kind of adjustments to make going from a pro style passing and running style to a bunch of pre-snap motion and option plays?

I think there's a reason Decker is the only receiver Tebow looks to. Being white, he's probably the only one who has been able to grasp the new concepts fast enough.

Some of you guys can disregard the changes Denver has made as minor from a technique perspective (although I think you are downplaying that aspect drastically), but this is the only time I can recall an NFL offense changing everything they do, philosophically and otherwise, right down to the play calls, to such a drastic degree mid season. Aside from a completely revamped base offense, they have installed a new red zone package, new short yardage package, basically everything is different. Saying a power block is still a power block is like saying "a jump shot is a jump shot" if a college basketball team converted from a run and gun to a Princeton offense.

I think if Denver wins the division, or even makes the playoffs, John Fox should win Coach of the Year running away.

Check the YPC for the first few games.. That's why I'm having a little bit of a hard time believing that this are the exact same blocking assignments. Unless the entire Denver o-line all just got better at the exact same time together.

This is an (unbelievably bad) amateur sketch I just made to show what's going on here.

The top play is Inside Zone. Something Denver has been using all season. O-line doesn't have a "player", they have the strong gap. RB reads 3-technique, yadda yadda.

The second play is the Zone Read. NOTHING CHANGES WITH THE LINE. The only difference is now we can hold the backside end from a heel-line trail and tackling our RB. If the end crashes inside to stop the Inside Zone, the QB simply keeps the ball and out-runs him.

The third play is the Triple Option. NOTHING CHANGES WITH THE LINE. It is an extension to the Zone Read. The WR goes in motion, if the end crashes down, the QB keeps. We now option the CB, if he plays the QB, we pitch, if he plays the WR, the QB keeps.


Didn't wanna go that far, but it had to be said.

So why is the same offensive line throwing the exact same blocks now getting 5 yards a carry for their backs instead of two?

b/c the defense also has to worry about tebow keeping the ball, thus opening up some running lanes...
