The Blaine Gabbert Era Begins

Jack Del Rio made mention that the move to Gabbert doesn't change his outlook for the 2011 season, and said the team needed a spark on offense and that they think Gabbert can provide that. Gabbert also told the media he was allowed to audible when asked, a good sign that he knows the playbook.

I don't think a Jaguars QB has been allowed to audible since Brunell.

He's thrown 38 INTs in the past three seasons and fumbled the football 32 times over the same time frame.

2010 - McNabb, Hasselbeck, Cutler, Peyton Manning, Chad Henne, Brett Favre, Carson Palmer, Drew Brees, and Eli Manning threw more INT's. Fitzpatrick and Bradford threw the same amount of INT's as well.

2009 - He only threw 10 INT's, hardly a turnover machine.

2008 - Brees, Cutler, Favre, Romo, Bulger, all threw the same amount of INT's. Rodgers threw 13 as well.

2007 - 3 INT's

Once again, I'm not a David Garrard fan- even though it doesn't look as if they exist. I'm simply stating the Jaguars had a better shot at making the playoffs with Garrard instead of Gabbert/McCown combination.

The guy got beat out, fair & square, by LUKE MCCOWN for his starting job.

There isn't a single Jaguars fan on this site who misses the guy, that's really all anyone needs to know.

I really don't hate Garrard, I just think he is, what he is, which is a below average starter...never better than a Bottom 1/3rd QB...maybe he has a season that is an anamoly and you do better than 8-8, 9-7 and sneak into the playoffs, but that means he needs to have a ridiculous rare season where he doesn't turn the ball over, EVER.

He's just very below average, that's it.

McCown is even worse, but I think Garrard mailed it in in Jacksonville when they drafted Gabbert.

Gabbert isn't even close to ready. Honestly, he shouldn't have come out this year...I loved him as a prospect, but felt he needed one more year in college...now he's starting by week 3...you can break a QB doing shit like that, but...we'll see.

Noone is saying Garrard is an all-world QB.. but the insinuation that McCown is on his level is just asinine.. I understand what the Jags were doing, they thought McCown would be a better stop gap then this, hes proven to be absolutely atrocious, now they have to rush their plan with Gabbert. To think they wouldnt be better off with Garrard playing out this year and Gabbert getting a year to sit is preposterous.. the kid is not ready to go into the fire, and like Larry said earlier, this can ruin guys. We'll see how it works out.. but I dont think the plan was for Gabbert to be playing by week 3.

If you honestly believe 4 pre-season games puts McCown on Garrard's level I dont know what to tell you. I dont know whats happening in practice, if Garrard mailed it in as Larry said, what.. I dont even blame the Jags for making the move. But hes by no way shape or form worse then McCown, shouldnt even be spoken in the same breath. Garrdard gave many average years to the Jags, a playoff spot, and really wasnt that bad as a game manager with pretty bad receivers for years. McCown is lucky to be a #2 on any team in the league. Garrard will probably never be a starter again, and thats fine, in this league teams are usually looking for a stud or a young guy to groom, Garrard is neither, but he deserves more credit then he receives for the time he put in and for what he is, and thats not inferior to fucking Luke McCown.

Last I checked, no one has picked up Garrard yet...that tells me all I need to know about his value around the league. Even the lowly fuckin Colts, who need a QB, haven't touched Garrard. The Eagles, who need someone to back up Mike Vick, because he's sure to only play 10 games, haven't touched him. Seahawks? Chiefs?
