Virgilio “Vic” Amezcua, best known as Septiembre Negro, passed away on 11/4 in Guadalajara from heart failure at the age of 73. Amezcua, the brother of the late Hall of Famer Alfonso Dantes, had one of the most controversial gimmicks in Lucha Libre history. He was a mid-card wrestler going nowhere, and after the 1972 terrorist attacks at the Munich Olympics where several members of the Israeli Olympic team were killed by the Black September terrorist group, came up with the idea of playing a heel called Black September based on it. It was among the most tasteless gimmicks ever, one that a number of the wrestlers were furious about. Wolf Ruvinskis, one of the biggest stars, who was Jewish, was furious but CMLL founder Salvador Lutteroth just thought it was a heel wrestling gimmick and went with it. Other than that, he was never a big star in Mexico. He had a raspy voice like Dick the Bruiser, which he claimed was from Blue Demon punching him in the throat when they feuded in the 70s. The gimmick ended on September 19, 1982, when he lost his mask before 17,000 fans at Palacio de los Deportes in a losers advance tag team tournament that he and the original Dr. Wagner were partners in, and kept losing, and Wagner beat him for his mask. After retiring, he was a member of the commission in Guadalajara until his death.

--WWE has a lot of new programming they are considering for their network, among the ideas listed on the WWE web site are:
*A show with Steve Austin and a more high-brow beer taster going around the country sampling beer.
*Mick Foley going around the country to amusement parks and checking out the rides
*Mick Foley hosting a show with the craziest moments in WWE history like the insane high risk moves of himself, Jeff Hardy, Shane McMahon and others.
*The Big show and wife Bess reality show, showing off her cooking talents and him showing off his eating talents as well as life at home.
*A reverse biggest loser, in this case it's skinny guys who work with a WWE performer to add muscle to their bodies and try then get girls.
*A fitness show with various WWE men and women stars where you go go the gym with them and they demonstrate their workouts and give nutritional advice. Shouldn't that show be with the guys who are their trainers and give them their nutritional advice?
*Divas on the road in a tour bus. I guess they'll create women fighting over guys in their storylines.

I want to see all of those old 80's house shows from MSG, Boston Garden, Toronto Maple Leaf Gardens, Philly Spectrum, and Washington DC Cap Center.

Not for the boring Hulk Hogan main events, but for the long forgotten under card matches like Lanny Poffo vs. Jose Luis Rivera, and Pete Doherty vs. Scott Casey.

WWE Survivor Series: Traditional Survivor Series Matches Going Away? Fine by Me

Over the past five years, much has been made about the devaluing of not only traditional 8 or 10-man Survivor Series matches but the entire WWE Survivor Series pay-per-view. WWE chairman Vince McMahon very nearly axed the entire pay-per-view in 2010 stating:

"We (WWE) think Survivor Series is obsolete. It worked many, many years ago but it's outlasted its usage. It's one of the PPVs we will be looking at in terms of rebranding. We will no longer have that title any more."

Thankfully, McMahon reconsidered and the name remained a part of the WWE pay-per-view cycle.

The name recognition of one of the big four pay-per-views (WrestleMania, Royal Rumble, Summerslam and Survivor Series) is simply too valuable to throw away on the premise of an outdated concept.

Simply put, if the outdated concept of the traditional Survivor Series matches (8 or 10-man) are put out to pasture. I will not be shedding any tears.

I like the traditional survivor matches. I think they open up great booking possibilities, and also provide a nice change of pace.

I think the WWE has done a great job booking Royal Rumble matches, but a horrible job booking the survivor matches. There were tons of survivor matches that were basically throw away in terms of the way they were booked.

I should also add that I think the recent Royal Rumbles have been booked well. Previous to that, I think they over did the gimmick where somebody lasted the entire match to win.

Yeah, they never seemed to give two shits about SS matches. I mean, look at the Hart family match. The match quality was garbage for involving Michaels and the Harts. But they only wanted to get one thing out of that match, but that one thing was worked perfectly. They were lazy with 'em. Like the two big guys that they didn't want to look weak always got double count-outs and shit. It was always formulaic and the main reason why they think it's obsolete is because they never invested shit in the matches in the first place. Sunmerslam is still a big deal with no gimmicks. Why? Because they actuallu try and make it important.

From talking with people internally, there continues to be the notable talk of Vince McMahon still not being himself. It’s described like he’s got the flu and fatigues faster than in the past, although this flu has lingered now for a number of weeks. The description is Vince is usually pretty much himself on Mondays, where he takes apart Raw and the Raw show is nothing like the show the writers present to him because of all the late changes he makes. But when it comes to Tuesday, after the grueling Monday, he seems tired and just rubber stamps almost everything Ed Koskey (head Smackdown writer) puts in front of him. So Smackdown’s final product is very similar to how it’s written, with all the key matches and almost all segments in place. That’s why Smackdown seems to make more sense week-to-week.

That's what I mean. If you actually go back, they really aren't memorable at all. We look at them with rosey glasses because it was a staple of the past but by and large... they weren't good or interesting.
