They could've let this go to Summerslam. I realize that the payoff will likely be there, but they really could've let this play out. I'm actually a bit pissed that Rey was used as such. I hate booking like that. Give him a small run, and then do Cena's rematch at SS, with the standard few tag team matches leading up to it (against some combination of Miz/Truth/ADR).
THEN do what you did tonight. Give Cena the strap... and have Punk come out.
I was thinking that they could've given the strap to a heel, but you don't want ADR or Truth's first run to end like they don't count, and Miz has too much a recent history with Cena. Swagger isn't elevated enough. Mysterio was actually the perfect person for that part.

I don't like this. I hope they don't do what I think they're going to do and they can save it, but I don't like this.
1. It renders the past month useless. McMahon, Cole, Lawler, Cena were all up in arms about how if Punk left with the belt, WWE would be fucked. The next night after Punk leaves, McMahon is basically all "cool daddio" and has a tournament to crown a new champ. HHH takes over for Vince which saves Cena from getting canned. Then Mysterio wins the belt (okay) but loses it to Cena an hour later (the fuck) and everybody is happy.
2. If they have Cena get the win back and pin Punk at Summer Slam.....WHAT THE FUCK? It would kill off everything that's made Punk the hottest in the industry.
3. They can claim Punk's beef was with Vince. Huh? He called HHH a doofus and talked shit about his wife, too. So why would Punk be more inclined to return now?
I'm just going to assume everything with Punk talking about wanting to take time off was a work. Otherwise, why would he come back so soon to look like any other jabroni and job to Cena and lose the belt?
I hope they can save it all...

I was happy Rey won, but the minute Cena got his shot you knew were that was going. Nice to see CM come out to set that up, BUT I agree with all of you WAY TOO SOON. I would have let strap on Rey for a month or so and let CM bash and keep doing what he is doing. Have CM come out at Summer Slam after Cena wins it there in some sort of match. Everyone buys the PPV because its one of the major PPV of the year, Punk coming out at the end like at Raw could have carried the story line into the winter all the way up to the Rumble.
