Which CMLL show are you watching? Galavision, FOX Sports Espanol, or something else? I keep looking for it and cant find it. The downloads I come across are 20 minute shows full of mid carders. I swear CMLL has like 19 shows.

There are two fundamental problems with the two FOILs (Jericho and Rock) for these Wrestlemania programs...

- They are both pretty rusty and not in a groove yet.

and most importantly...

- They have nothing to say.

The Rock's promos for a year, have basically come down to "You are bitchmade!" While Jericho's come down to "You are a wannabe!"

That is the crux of their hatred for the other guy...awesome. But because they are pretty rusty, and for the Rock, because he shows up once every 3 months, he shows up to get the crowd to pop over actually making a point, they come off a bit outclassed in promos by the guys that are in their groove.

A good example was, last night during the Punk-Jericho exchange, Punk was able to make his general comments, PLUS, adding and making clear, his actual point (Maybe Jericho's upset because while he did all of these things, he was never "the man" like Punk is "the man" right now, and it is eating him alive)...Punk just quickly made his point, and Jericho couldn't rebut at all.

Now whether or not he was supposed to or not, I don't know, I just expect Jericho to come back on that, and he didn't, so, he looks outclassed.

I won't get into the Rock, because he's a special circumstance. He obviously gets the crowd behind him 100%, so, I can't hate, but the actual discussion points between Cena and Rock favor Cena, and he's been hitting his bullet points out of the park the past few weeks. It doesn't help when Rock basically makes some points to start off his promo, not to Cena, but to somebody in the back that has been talking shit about him to Meltzer or whomever.

Him having shit written on his wrist shows how rusty he is...that was pretty embarrassing. I noticed that the first second they flashed past his wrist. Hidden in it all, I think he had some good points, but they were buried between "trending", "Kung Pow Bitch", random anti-Cena chants, and goosebumps, and then Cena leaving him speechless.

Pretty much. I don't really get the bullet points written on his wrist thing as a roflcopter situation. I get it. He's a busy guy and this is no longer his livelihood. He's a little unprepared. It's almost to be expected. The two just aren't put in a position to succeed in promos versus their counter-parts. Which may be even more of the plan to get them over. You've got two guys who are really putting together some of their best work to this point. Everyone has given Cena adulation for his promos recently, and Punk had a hotter stretch than even his biggest indy fans expected last year in the big leagues.

It puts guys like Rock and Jericho in a tough spot to look better, or even as good. And those guys were previously two of the absolute best on the mic in the last 20 years. It's stacking the deck when you have Punk come out with the belt and talk about how he's been the champion and defending the title while Jericho has barely been back 6 weeks, sans flashy jacket promos. It's "Hey, I'm the WWE champ, best in the world, hottest thing in wrestling today" vs. "Hey, I was really good a few years back. I have references!"

Rock/Cena is completely one-sided. Cena has free reign, where as Rock comes in once in a blue moon and tries to get over with nothing. As good as he can be on the mic, he's handicapped. So many things working against him. That he isn't there, that a large portion of the WWE's audience of 5-12 year olds don't now who he is, that the things he's saying about being back for good are garbage. He's trying to sell a really bad hand, and it's not working. Regardless of the bullet points being written on him, which I really don't think is that inexcusable, he's floundering.

While The Rock kinda slipped on a banana peel Monday, both are good enough to pull this off. Hell, the WWE made HHH-Undertaker relevant with some pretty impressive pre-planning (UT being taken out on a stretcher).
Not saying I buy that crap, but it worked overall.

Not paying the $69.99 for Wrestlemania in HD. Not worth it, but many will.

Summerslam 90 on 24/7..watched part one the other night and holy crap it's awesome. First off, they work an injury angle with Shawn Michaels in the opener and have Power & Glory (Roma & Hercules) use their AWESOME finisher (superplex/top rope splash combo) on Jannetty to win.

Perfect was suppose to wrestle Beefcake over the IC title but a week or two before, he was in the parasailing accident and broke bones in his face. They subbed in Kerry Von Erich and made it an awesome angle where Perfect didn't take him seriously on 10 days notice. HOLY SHIT, PERFECT WAS EPIC TAKING BUMPS. Seems like he would do this crazy flips for the most simplest of things and it would make KVE look like a million bucks. I imagine his back wasn't messed up yet but a shame in just 3 or 4 years, it would be.

A 2/3 falls tag match between Demolition (champs and doing the Freebirds gimmick b/c Ax was winding down so they brought in Bryan Adams as Crush with Smash) against Bret & Anvil who hilariously quote Phil Collins in their pre-match promo.

Awesome match, awesome tag match....Bret's selling was its usual awesome stuff....some shenagians during the match with Ax coming down and "fooling" the ref to give Smash a breather. Road Warriors came down and help Hart Foundation win the tag belts. The Heart Attack finisher was another awesome finisher, looked so good.

Couple other things worth mentioning....

-The crowd was red hot...popped for everything (although it seemed like the Rockers were getting more boo's than I recall)

-Mene Gene was perfect in that role doing interviews before matches and there is absolutely no one like him since then.

You are right, this card was great. And you didn't even mention what was probably the best match of Ultimate Warriors life, against Rick Rude.

That Kerry Von Erich match is a great example of why Mr. Perfect was so great. His gimmick, facials, reactions, and bumping were second to none for a heel during that era (including Flair). When you look at Curt Hennig's career, you don't have the same giant catalog of great matches that you have from other people, but he did the little things so well that he never had duds, even with stiffs like Beefcake, or a guy like Von Erich, who was well past his working prime at this point and super mediocre.

And iirc, Michaels was legit hurt so this was the work around. Of course, as a kid, you don't know Michaels was hurt, so all you see is a kickass angle that put s Power & Glory over like a million bucks. Great stuff.

So somebody on another site posted a tweet by Eve, in what is the worst case of storyline soap opera-ism in the WWE in a long time. Which is saying something. But that got me thinking about the WWE's recent pandering to twitter. Which got me thinking: how HORRIBLE of an advent for pro wrestling in the states has the internet been? From not being able to keep almost any surprise from your audience to streaming PPVs to having to have your biggest stars on TV talking about "social media"? And every time one of your wrestlers gets so much as a traffic ticket, people are aware of it and talking?

I mean, if you're in the WWE from 97 til now, you should have pulled your hair out 100x over with the whole changes. You go from having raucous crowds and a relatively small internet wrestling community to these very apathetic crowds and a seemingly impossibly large internet community. Could that have played a part in the WWE going towards youths (with ad revenue still being the overwhelmingly largest reason)? It just seems like there were more 21+ fans in years past, where as now that demo is overflowing with "smarks" :smh: that seemingly don't want to be pleased.....

Somewhat more specifically Biss, if you were doing what you're doing only on a national promotion, wouldn't this just piss you off to almost no end?

The internet and wrestling, I think it gets too much credit as to what you're talking about. It's like the old argument that some people used with why Smackdown's ratings have historically been shit in comparison to Raw. It's not because the results of the show are on the net days in advance, it's because the show is treated like a C show with no importance and on a bad TV night.

The IWC is still small IMO. For the most part, whenever WWE (or even TNA for that matter) decide to throw in some worked shoot, inside type stuff, it almost always goes over the head of the live crowd. Plus, usually, the folks who fill up WWE arenas on a weekly basis are not smark marks, they're families (especially these days).

Of course, when they run places like MSG, Chicago, Montreal, Philly, those types of spots, you get more of the IWC crowd, but even still, I assume it's more of the vocal minority.

If anything, the popularization of the internet should mean promotions have greater means to make some money. Still, the bread and butter of WWE is TV driven, and while I'm not sure how effective they are with turning social media into actual dollars, I look at it as an untapped market (with WWE up to this point at least).

No idea about the other groups, but even then, it's cheaper to get word going on the internet then it is buying up TV spots in different markets I assume.

I agree with you on SD. It's a B show, it's on Friday night, there's a ratings difference in network to cable that I still don't understand.

The kids don't really know the difference, which is why it would be smart to play to them. They would have real, uncompromised reactions and no real expectations for the product. Not that long ago, that was the case for 99% of the audience.

The worked shoot stuff, for the most part, is stupid and that's why it doesn't evoke too much of a reaction IMHO. TNA tries too hard and WWE seems to just do it all wink-wink nudge-nudge like. The Edge/Lita/Matt Hardy thing shows kind of a blueprint for it working/how to use the internet in your favor. But those situations seem to be few and far between.

They seem to have a strong crowd regardless. Philly seems to be the minority. They've become these savvy (hard to ever say about Philly fans) internet fans, but they're every bit as serious about wrestling as ever. They seem to be an anomaly.

The money is debatable. The merchandise being available to everyone at an instant is an upgrade, undoubtedly. But the ability to stream their PPV is a big hit IMO. PPV buys used to be the be-all, end-all for WWE. Now, you know, do they REALLY care how many buys they get out of these throw-away PPVs like Night of Champions? Probably not.
