In the El Hijo del Santo lawsuit against AAA stemming from his claim that they put his name and likeness on the box for the TripleMania 2009 DVD and he claimed he didn’t know the show was being taped for DVD, the case is ongoing and there was testimony going on over the past week. Marisela Pena tried to get Santo to unmask in court, claiming that she knows what he looks like and wanted to make sure the person under the mask is Jorge Guzman. He refused to unmask, but the judge sided with Santo and said he didn’t have to unmask. Pena refused to settle out of court with him feeling she was right since they had done DVDs every year, Santo came in for the show, and AAA and Pena believed they agreed verbally to a long-term deal, he did the show, won the main event as the big hero, and then left the company after the match, bad mouthed the company, and sued them over being in the DVD. Pena is trying to get Santo admit under oath wrestling is “all choreographed,” likely another way of trying to get him to drop the case since he’s old-school in wanting to at least claim some of wrestling is still a struggle.

This kind of stuff always cracks me up.

Tomoaki Honma has been fired by New Japan. "Private issue" was the reason given.

If you recall he had that great match against Masato Tanaka in January.

Its rare to get fired in Japan, so he must have did something pretty bad.

Curious to hear what he did to manage that.

There is some speculation that the NOAH Yakuza scandal might have something to do with New Japan firing Honma.

The NOAH thing happened because a book came out last week detailing two NOAH execs, along with Marufuji, Morishima, Suguira, and a few others having close relationships with Yakuza members, including attending birthday parties of their children. The implied personal relationships make it worse than originally thought, because its not just business related, which is still frowned upon but widely known to be impossible to stop.

Anyway, people are saying Honma might be a gansta, and New Japan, with the new owners and all, panicked and let him go.

I want to stress that the Honma thing is pure speculation, but it was whispered to me by people who are usually in tune with what is going in over there. This was told to me as fact or based on any sort of fact. It's just something that makes a ton of sense right now, with New Japan having new owners that happen to be a very reputable company, and the timing of the firing.

South Florida TV sports reporter, announcer, interviewer Craig Minervini worked for the WWF, interviewing talent. Then known as Craig DeGeorge, he spent two WrestleManias (3 and 4) with the WWF, before his departure.
Minervini said: “I learned from [WWE Chariman/CEO] Vince [McMahon] because he was very much involved — the professionalism, the way to do a show. It was amazing to watch him. Everything was done to a T.
Minervini enjoyed his time in the WWF, working with Mean Gene Okerlund and many of the talent.
Minervini said: “Hulk was great. Randy Savage was great. Billy Jack Haynes. Most of the guys I worked with were headliners. Rene Goulet would listen to make sure we didn’t miss anything. They all were great. I got to work with Andre the Giant. George the Animal Steele was one of my favorites. Jake the Snake [Roberts]. You know, crazy personalities, but that’s what made it exciting.”
He continued: “I’ve been to every sporting event you could go to, and when Hulk Hogan came in the ring with that music and got the crowd going, it was as exciting as any moment you’ll see in the sports world. The entertainment process was amazing. To have a front seat to that and all the interviews and the live crowds, it was thrilling. There’s nothing like bringing Hulk Hogan out on a stage with 19,000 people screaming and that I am a ‘Real American’ song playing in the background.”

Dolphins running back Daniel Thomas said: “Growing up, The Rock was one of my favorite wrestlers. So it’s going to be fun to watch him again.”

Dolphins defensive end Jared Odrick said: “I used to watch a lot of wrestling when I was younger, and I’ve always been and still am a huge Rock fan. I like Stone Cold [Steve Austin], but The Rock was definitely my favorite. My nephews are now big wrestling fans; so hopefully I can take them to WrestleMania.”
Dolphins linebacker Karlos Dansby said: “I think it’s going to be an awesome event. I can’t wait. Me and my family will be there. I can’t wait to see The Rock do his thing and drop the People’s Elbow on somebody.”

NFL Hall of Famer and former Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino grew up a pro wrestling fan in Pittsburgh. He said: “Sun Life Stadium is a great venue for an event like this.”
Marino, who’s attended WWE shows with his kids at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise and AmericanAirlines Arena in Miami, added: “I know that they have a lot of shows they put on during the year. In football, there’s 16 games, and it’s a pretty violent sport, but at the same time, they’ve got to get ready to go and do their thing almost every night. So from that standpoint, I’m sure it’s a grind.”
