Just finished Best in the World 2012...


Pretty bad tag match with the Briscoes and Mosh and Thrasher.

Homicide v. Eddie Edwards was alright.

Holy shit...Adam Cole v. Kyle O'Reilly was fucking awesome. They did something that is the most difficult thing to do...make you give a shit about two guys that you wouldn't otherwise give a shit about. That match definitely made Adam Cole.

Finlay has been having the same match for a while against these Indy guys...he plays the old wiley veteran double hardass in the match against the young guy and plays the technically experienced veteran...similar matches everytime...they aren't particularly bad, heck, technically, they are good...just not particularly captivating at all.

Why are they seemingly de-pushing Mike Bennett? He's not my cup of tea, but you don't job him out to Mike Mondo.

+rep to Jay Lethal's hair and Ciampa's beard. Lulz.

Figure Four - Crossface would have been an A+ ending to a three-way match...too bad they wasted it for a non-finish.

Otherwise, the three-way was very good. Ciampa is growing on me...the end was sloppy tough.

Tag Title match was alright...right team went over, albeit, flukey.

Totally unnecessary promo to start by Kyle O'Reilly. That can be ROHTV shit.

Corino killed commentary.

Steen v. Richards was a trainwreck from start to finish. It was a classic ECW style match. I enjoyed it. Everyone went down...ridiculous pandemonium.

They cancelled both Carolina shows today, but they probably overreached on that one.

Meltzer talked about this topic last week, he pointed out that all it takes is one executive with Sinclair to pull the plug (that's what ultimately killed WCW), if the numbers are in that ballpark.
 
Not really talks of going under, just the idea that now that they are owned by a large media company, its nothing more than an asset, so if that asset is a drag on the bottom line, they could easily pull the plug. Cary Silkin was willing to take losses because he loves wrestling, but ROH is literally nothing more than a cog in a corporate machine now, so if they arent pullong the ad rates Sinclair was expecting, they will be cancelled like any other tv show, and likely under that scenario shutdown entirely. The bad sign is that house show numbers have not gone up with the new tv exposure.

Bryan Alvarez: Dave, the next segment saw Daniel Bryan backstage handing AJ a rose. Where on earth would a person find a rose backstage on RAW?

Alvarez: Well, why would there be a rose backstage?

Meltzer: Well, considering all of the divas are having affairs, I don't think it would be that hard to find a rose somewhere backstage.

Well, actually the iPPV numbers were flat, but its estimated that at least half of those people were watching for free as make goods for the last three iPPV disasters. The next number is the key number, to see how many paying fans they've lost between the iPPV snafus and general malaise about the product.

I've always said that ECW got on national TV too late, with Rhino & Steve Corino & Justin Credible instead of Raven & Benoit & Guerrero & Taz & Sabu. 2000 ECW might as well have been a different promotion.

Same for ROH. Nothing wrong with Kevin Steen, Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, Jay Lethal etc, but these guys were working the undercard when Punk, Samoa Joe, Bryna Danielson, Austin Aries, Nigel McGuinness, were on top and the product was arguably the best wrestling product and deepest roster in the world. That ROH would have had a fighting chance, because all of those guys have shined on the national stage and proved they have real charisma and could be real stars. And the Steen's and Richards' could have been built up underneath.

ECW 1995 = ROH 2005, ECW 2000 = ROH 2012
