The next thing you know, Sean Wheelock, the lead announcer for Bellator and a lifelong pro wrestling fan, was sitting between Mike Tenay and Taz. Little known info is that Wheelock’s hero growing up was Gordon Solie, he always wanted to be a wrestling announcer, but wound up doing soccer and then MMA, and that most Thursday nights when he was a kid, he’d go to Memorial Hall in Kansas City to see Central States Wrestling. Given that Tenay knows just about everything about every territory, they started rattling off the names like Harley Race, Rufus Jones, Bulldog Bob Brown, Bruiser Bob Sweetan, Bob Geigel, Mike George and other area regulars. RVD came out and he wanted a match with Daniels. RVD missed both the frog splash and Rolling Thunder. Daniels got the pin in 4:41 using the ropes. The stuff with Wheelock was hilarious. Totally serious, he noted that he hoped Aces and 8s don’t show up tomorrow night and interfere in all the Bellator matches. Not only that, but during the Bellator show, Wheelock brought that up again, about Aces and 8s interfering, and then they showed Devon at ringside at the Bellator show (it was in Tampa) acting like he’s watching out. They didn’t actually say Devon was there as the ringside enforcer because that would have been silly, but they kind of played it up. Wheelock, during the match also called it a Pier 6 brawl (a Solie cliche) and Tenay joked that he’s probably been waiting all night to say that. Probably his whole life if you want to know the truth.
