Does anybody else watch PRIME WRESTLING on STO (Sports Time Ohio, channel 662 on DirecTV)?

It's the old Pro Wrestling Ohio promotion with a new name. They use Johnny Gargano, Matt Cross, Jimmy Jacobs, Marion Fontaine, Irish Airborne, Gregory Iron, Zack Gowan, Veda Scott, Flip Kendrick & Louis London, and a lot of the usual midwest indy crew.

They shoot in full HD, which is amazing considering I still get major league stuff like some WWE shows, CMLL & AAA in SD. The last few weeks they've been showing matches from other indy groups too, which is interesting. This week they had a match between "the former" BILLY GUNN vs Rocky Reynolds from Pro Wrestling Rampage, then a shoot question & answer session with Gunn & Jerry Lynn, followed by a match with Lynn against a local guy.

I support this decision. When you reach the point when there's more frustration than enjoyment from watching, its easier just to leave it be. Stopped after Money in the Bank and even though I still check results and other fan's responses, I don't feel like I've missed anything of note. I can still find any really good, must-see matches damned quick anyway.

You know, along these lines, for years people said, "Paul Heyman & Jim Cornette are really busy doing nothing, and nobody utilizes these great wrestling minds!"

Cornette got back in the game with ROH, and ROH has gone into the shitter, a lot of that due to bad (boring) booking.

It makes you wonder if all of these people that we pine for to gain power, like Heyman, Jim Ross, Raven, Gabe Sapolsky, etc would do any better on the national stage in the current environment.

Dave Lagana seems to do well wherever he goes, and TNA is a million times better since he showed up and Russo left. But it's still a committee there.

Sapolsky hasn't had a creative home run since probably 2006 or so. He still has an eye for talent gets people over within his small niche, but creatively, his praise is largely based on stuff that in some cases is a decade old now. And DG/EVOLVE doesn't draw shit unless the big DG names come over, and even then they aren't gigantic indie houses or anything.

I think it was Heyman who always said that bookers have a short shelf life, and nobody can successfully churn out ideas for longer than a few years.

Heyman himself seem to be running on empty during the dying days of ECW, but after turning shit in to gold for a few years, there is only so much you can do with Julio Dinero, The Muskateer, and Chilly Willy. They had nothing left. To his credit, he did get Rhino over during that period, who was nothing more than a cheesy looking indie guy at the time.

Interesting thought, W2B. Something I've considered to a degree cuz of the writing projects I do (geekdom taken to the maximum).

Its really hard to know what's going on in a given situation. As fans, we tend to get glimpses through rumors (always unreliable) and subsequent reports from former insiders, some of whom are ridiculously fucking bitter, which makes them suspect at best. You can never really know what's going on in a booking meeting. Look at TNA with Lagana - doing some shit really well. Yet still doing some questionable things (AJ's baby momma, and Aces and Eights has jumped the shark IMO)... How much do veterans like Hogan, Angle, and Sting dictate? How much direction do they get from Spike?

With the E, I figured Triple H would do well in a creative sense but as he seems to be gaining more backstage power, WWE is getting creatively worse. His signings have obviously bombed... Is he having any creative input at this point? How much? In the end, it probably doesn't matter since the WWE is being booked for one guy and that's Vince.

As for Raven, I enjoy the shit out of his shoot videos. He's definitely a smart guy. But the impression I get from those videos and such is that he's the best people person. Maybe he's completely different in backstage situations with other wrestlers and such and its just an impression I get. But I do think being able to placate talent and get them to buy into your ideas is an underrated aspect to booking. Especially if someone is walking into a promotion like TNA, where you've got a ton of old school guys.

Yep, that's probably what I'll do as well, especially with MNF starting up. At least Danielson will be interesting once this anger management thing is done and they don't have him lose by count out.

Ariane Andrew, better known as Cameron, one of Brodus Clay's dancers, was arrested on a DUI charge on 8/24 at 2:44 a.m. in Tampa, where she lives.

Andrew curiously listed her occupation as a Sales Associate for Wells Fargo bank. She was booked and released the next day on $500 bond.

I guess we should have seen this coming. I suppose we all just had more hope.

Dave Meltzer reported on his Wrestling Observer Live podcast that Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H is the plan for WrestleMania 29. For those scoring at home, the rumored Lesnar vs. Undertaker or Lesnar vs. The Rock matches are no more, instead we are getting a SummerSlam rematch.

Obviously, this is still a rumor and Meltzer made sure to mention it was only in the plans, but I cannot help but be extremely disappointed by this development.

Lesnar’s latest stint in the WWE has been littered with creative and philosophical missteps, but this rumored WrestleMania match may be the worst.

Instead of creating a dynamic, once in a lifetime matchup at WrestleMania, the “Year of Lesnar” will wrap up with a shrug, a rematch I’m not sure anyone (especially not mainstream fans) really cares to see.

The rumored idea of Lesnar vs. Undertaker had great dynamics.

Lesnar signed a one-year contract. WrestleMania presumably would be his last show and the one thing he has never done in WWE is defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania. It is a perfect way to send off Lesnar and have him lose on his way out. Undertaker, an avid MMA fan, has had a previous run in with Lesnar while he was in UFC, so there is already a built-in dynamic.

You even have similar move sets and a submission standoff between Lesnar’s Kimura and Taker’s Gogoplata. I have even seen hypothetical finishes and submissions transitions discussed on message boards. It is hard to deny that people were excited for this potential matchup.


Nope. Instead, Triple H gets the chance to send off Lesnar (unless he signs a new contract) and frankly, I am worried at the outcome. Triple H is not going to lose again to Lesnar, especially not at WrestleMania (this loss would be his third in a row).

If Lesnar is on the way out, then I absolutely get it. That is what you do in this business, but why waste a huge victory on Triple H? If this is Lesnar’s send off, what point does a Triple H victory serve?

From a quality standpoint, I am also extremely worried about the match since their SummerSlam match was not anything special. Do not get me wrong, it was not terrible by any means, but now we’re talking about the biggest show of the year. It was perfectly fine as a main event of a show on the level of a SummerSlam, but I just cannot fathom people being interested in a WrestleMania rematch. The crowd reaction alone at SummerSlam in Los Angeles showed the general apathy towards the feud.

Simply put, I would love to see a fresh, intriguing matchup for Lesnar on the way out. Lesnar vs. Undertaker was that fresh matchup. Now, it appears we are going to have to live with Lesnar vs. Triple H rematch and the only way I can really react is with a large shrug.
