I just rewatched the Legends Roundtable with JJ, JR, Nash, and Michael Hayes with Gene Okurlund...it is infinitely better than the nWo documentary.

I would expect at the least a bash piece...but we don't even get that...we get some truly quarter-assed DVD products, and they put out plenty of them. ECW got a very in-depth documentary. They get constant match compilation DVDs that at least try to be diverse and cater to the audience that will buy said DVDs. World Class got a good doc. The AWA got a good doc. WCW got a piss poor doc with their Rise and Fall DVD. The nWo DVDs (both of them) were piss poor attempts at a product. The match compilations for WCW have been lackluster.

And, I don't know why you would think that about Sting. Vince holds that guy in very high esteem, which is strange considering he has never worked for him and has turned him down numerous times. But, Vince loves the guy, I guess. In every possible piece involving WCW or anything that involved Sting throughout his career, they say nothing but good things, promote him as a star, and praise him considerably.

Sting has an open invite to join the WWE anytime he wants, either as a wrestler or even with a Legends deal.

The AWA doc was good with only minor inaccuracies and history rewrites.

The ECW doc was good.

The World Class doc was really good, although it wasn't as good as the independent version.

The Punk bio was really good.

Some of the early bios like Benoit, Guerrero, LOD, etc were good. I like Jake Roberts, too. Flair & Bret Hart had good ones also.

History of WrestleMania was fair. The same made up stuff they always repeat (93,000 fans @ WMIII), but some fun footage.

Flair was under their umbrella though, and Trips looked up to him. You need look no further than Rise and Fall of WCW to see the "effort" they begrudgingly put into trying to cash in on WCW. Pretty average covering it until they get to Turner buying it and Bischoff getting put in charge. They completely shit on it from both points on.

Never seen the old NWO DVD. Didn't even know it existed. The Nitro one wasn't awful, but it's all old matches and DDP, so they can't really show too much bias there.

Rise and Fall of ECW was IMO, the best doc they've done. But I haven't seen the new Punk one. The Rise and Fall of WCW was IMO, the worst doc they've ever done by a pretty good margin.

I know Vince would take Sting, and is a fan to an extent. I didn't mean Vince disliked the guy, I mean that he never seems to want to really mention him outside of 24/7 for some reason. The big angles of WCW's hot era were NWO in 96, Crow Sting in 97, and Goldberg in 98. The other two are covered in great detail, over and over again. Sting, being a cornerstone of WCW for 15 years, and isn't covered to the extent he should be in their docs. The other bigs are, likely because they were all under the WWE umbrella at varying points.

Big Show, Batista, Randy Orton, any of the Cena ones, any of the Mysterio ones, most of the Steve Austin ones (his definitive DVD release in 2011 was really good), the Warrior one is a train wreck.

Plus, the WWE half-asses a lot of their own compilation discs.

I think it depends on who is working on the discs. You have some guys that really value these things and when they do them, they put effort into them...the Punk doc, the Edge doc, Jericho doc, Austin's 2011 doc, Rock's docnd so, Eddie, the Warriors...they have some real good ones, too. The other feds like WCCW, ECW, AWA, etc have had guys put real effort into good stories...it just seems like no one has given a fuck if a legitimate WCW story is told or not.

The Warrior doc was awesome for totally different reasons that the others. Blatant burial, tons of fun.

People like Bret & Punk were insistent on controlling a lot of what was done, which is important. Bret knew the score after the Warrior doc, and was quick to participate. We all know Punk's m.o., that motherfucker is principled & stubborn and wasnt going to have it any other way.

At the end of the day, Vince is going to tell the story of WCW & Ted Turner his way. It's not going to change if Vince is breathing, and all of the rewritten history will become reality the more time that passes.

Somebody should turn Bryan Alvarez's Death of WCW into a doc.

I agree, Vince will re-write the history of WCW, but the WWE doesn't even produce bash pieces. They produce half-assed docs that praise WCW more than anything. The nWo doc was nothing but praise of the group with everyone stroking them off. Didn't even get into bash mode on any level.

Also, this. Probably learned more shit I never knew from this doc than any other wrestling doc i've seen.

The trailer isn't very good, but the doc goes super in depth about the early days with Billy Wolf, and the transition to Moolah controlling women's wrestling. Fascinating stuff, especially if you are into the behind the scenes politics & history.

McGuinness's doc intrigues the shit out of me. I liked the guy, and he seems genuinely sharp and engaging. Which would make a concussion problem all that much worse. It could be a totally different type of doc than any before.
