With all eyes on the NFL, I think there will be.
Everyone is complaining in here that it's only because of the video that the response is as strong as it is. I think that's just human nature as it forces everyone to confront the horror of domestic abuse. Hell, even with the video there are still people in this thread insinuating that a 120 lb woman deserved to get KOed by a 220 lb pure muscle NFL star.
The 'doubt' that people put out there continually allows domestic abusers to get away with it (I.e she probably deserved it, she made him do it, she should have shut her mouth etc). Now that the public has seen what it looks like when an NFL player punches his wife, I hope the media keeps the pressure on and calls for the players to be held accountable. Its gone from being an abstract to a reality. When Macdonald and Charles Johnson are called to account for what they've done, the nfl can't look the other way because this video will still be in people's minds.
The NFL isn't a court of law. It's a private business that has a personal conduct policy. That Rice was found innocent of any crimes is more an indictment of the judicial system than any refutation of guilt. Goodwill dropped the ball hard on this one and is now forced to act. Suspending him indefinitely is the only way that other players will get the message that they can't beat their wives. Even then, some players seem too fucking stupid to check themselves.
Personally, I would be intrigued to see what is goin through Janay Palmers head. She defended Rice at a press conference, fought for him at a disciplinary hearing were Rice was in the room and took a large share of the blame. And it's still come down to Rice losing millions. Complete conjecture here, but I have to think an abuser like Rice somehow blames Janay for all of this happening to him
