his comments are spot on from what i been reading. early on the game is tough, but as u go it gets easier. its the difference between posting a comment 3 hours in vs 30 hours in. impressions change over that time

Twigg is just busting my balls. The first battle scene is tough because u don't know what the fuck your doing and about 2 other parts were hard....the rest was just paying attention and learning the fighting techniques....instead of bashing x on most other games.

Yeah, but that was exactly my point. Every review I read, podcast I listened to and impressions I heard from JMS all said that the beginning of the game was relentless. Couple that with the fact that apparently the game assumed you played the first one and did a horrible job of explaining to you how certain aspects of the game worked.

Stuff like that can really turn off someone new to the series and someone like me that has very little patience.

While I agree that being easily influenced by others is a bad idea, when everyone, and I mean everyone, was saying the same thing. They were saying that the combat is brutal early on. Usually games ease you into things but this game appeared to be the complete opposite. Even when blocking apparently the character loses tons of health, which is completely counterintuitive. Plus they don't explain to you why it's happening. And they also don't explain to you how spells work, how to combine items, etc. You're just expected to have a history with the series and know how to do those things.

For example, Vinny from Giant Bomb echoes these exact sentiments. I think he's played his fair share of tough games. He's played through both Demon's and Dark Souls. It wasn't the difficulty of the game it's how things are presented and how little direction the game gives you. He still said it was one of his favorite games of the year though.

I will agree that they do kind of throw you into the deep end and hope you know how to swim. I sort of welcome that now as most games hold your hand like your a freaking 2 year old. IT is kind of fun to figure some shit out on your own as long as it is not too time consuming.

i started playing last night and got to my first real combat area. the combat felt like basic hack and slash with the Y and X buttons used for normal and strong attack. i was pretty lame imo. i was expecting some combo abilities or something more with the powers. but it just felt off

plus i felt very over matched. it reached a point where 5 guys were on me with an archer firing arrows from a distance.

maybe this is what jay meant when he didnt like it early on but then felt it was easy as he progressed.

i am gonna give it more time today. i only played an hour last night cause it took almost an hour to install and download all the patches.

another thing that bugs me is when i installed and played it after i built my pc was able to run it on ultra no problem. But last night on ultra it was running at 15 fps. its the only game doing this so i know its not my hardware...i wonder if it has something to do with one of those patches

fixed my framerate issue. there were a few settings i needed to change to fix it. im back at 60fps

also found out real quick today that the combat is quite nice. fast paced hack and slash...but not all about button mashing.

took a few screens...the last one has the improved settings.

the game is pretty linear right now. i have heard it opens up. this section is almost like a tutorial without the actual tutorial. they basically throw you in to it so u can learn, but dont tell you anything.....i could see it annoying alot of people.

once you start to figure things out its a much better experience. Leveling up seems rather slow compared to other rpg. im only level 3 right now. it feels like i been playing long enough to be a 5 or 6

this game was just so fucking cool. Gerald is a bad ass. Are you at Flotsham yet? The beginning was slow and hard. Once I got to flotsham the game really opened up and was very cool. The graphics are mind blowing. I found myself stopping every so often and just looking around. I focused on swordsmanship and that made the game a bit easier then the other branches.

did the tutorial and during the throwing knife section where you get to aim it got stuck in that slo mo mode and stayed like that until i quit at the final battle

for such a beautiful game it sure feels unpolished. i consider uncharted 2 to be the best looking console game ever. this put that to shame. story is dam good to. i just finished up game of thrones and im hungry for more. This game is providing that. the story is well told and actually very interesting. Choices feel like they matter

yes the choices matter big time....siding with one person will take you along a totally different path then siding with another. Yeah fucking Geralt got set up....pissed me off. I wanted to find that fucking kingslayer ASAP! Interesting to see what you do at the end of the game. Keep playing.

im gonna have to post more spoiler tags as i go. this comes out soon for 360. I have not gotten into flotsam...i just got ashore and saved for the night. plan to play it tonight....cant wait.

Yeah first act is great....drags a little in the 2nd and you really need to pay attention due to alot of story but a good one. I was a little confused but got it. The 3rd act is up to you.....you can run through it or take it slow.

geez they really opened it up in flotsam. the area is a bit tricky to explore because of how everything looks. its just so dam detailed and alive with activity. the npc's all chatting away and such a lush vibrant area makes it feel much larger than it really is. its very busy and alot to soak in.

when do i get to open up the 3 skills trees? i got 2 points im holding on to and i was trying to wait until i opened a new tree

You have to use some points in the witcher tree to open up all the trees.

this game is so irritating sometimes. i stopped playing for the night even though i wanted to play till midnight. this game as is right now would not be something i recommend to anyone on the console. its only saving grace is the mind blowing graphics and the story.

lose the graphics...which im certain it wont look half as good and you have a game not worthy of a purchase. way to many bugs/glitches. its so un polished and its got very cumbersome menus and a UI that just frustrates you.

the combat has its moments of greatness, but you have more WTF moments than great. nothing worse then strolling along and having 3 or 4 dicks gang rape you before you can button mash the pull sword button...which for some reason is always delayed

does this game even have health potions? not that it matters because u cant use them unless you meditate first...which means you have to anticipate a battle. its not a bad way of doing things, but its just another reason to get annoyed because you are constantly pausing the game to get in and out of the menus

no single thing this game does poorly is something to complain about. But when u add them all up you find yourself in a very frustrating game. it gets away with it because it looks so good on the PC....on the console, man they better clean this shit up

all of them....not cause of the pics, but because im on my shitty work PC. they look fantastic on my home PC. I could see someone looking at them on their crappy PC and thinking the game isnt all that good looking...but thats not the case

my work PC isnt a horrible PC either, but my home PC is all brand new shit
