You're basically wanting to turn MMA into Shootboxing, but without the gloves and quality strikers. I see enough sloppy boxing wars between non-strikers as it is in the UFC, I don't need to it to become the standard for mixed martial arts in the states.

Seriously (I'm not even kidding), just watch Shootboxing. Crisper striking and they actually know what the fuck they're doing.

first off, they are training partners, they have the same coaches, they know each others moves, each others habits, etc...it wouldnt even be a true 'fight'

so what do you do, split the entire training camp? who corners who come fight time?

Silva is the MW champ, Machida is the LHW champ, just because Silva takes some big fights at LHW doesnt mean he has to fight Machida

Please show me where MMA guys from the same team are fighting each other all the time, show me what boxers from the same camps are fighting each other all the time

Boxers dont even want to fight there sparring partners because they have trained together, if its so common, show me where this is happening

Show me where guys from AKA, Greg jacksons, BTT, ATT, MFS, Chute Box, Black House, Xtreme Couture, Cesear Gracies are fighting each other

I agree, but Machida and Silva don't fight out of the same camp. So the coaching aspect wouldn't be an issue. I wouldn't say it's uncommon for sparring partners to fight each other either, but I still respect their reasons for not wanting to.

they train together a lot and use some of the same coaches, but this issue comes up a lot with the AKA guys at 170

I dont think they should fight if they dont want to, but since Swick moved down to 170 they created somewhat of a mess, but there is enough talent and fights to go around in the UFC so it isnt that much of a problem, one or maybe 2 of them will probably go elsewhere in the future though

Shields and Diaz handle it a little better, they move up or down in weight classes depending on the match ups, but they probably would never fight either

Shogun and Wand dominated the MW division in Pride for years, no way those 2 were going to fight

--Cain had relentless pace and cottonball fists. Not sure I can name a guy whos landed that many power shots in back to back fights while doing zero damage. Lesnar,Big Nog wreck him.


--Im a little confused at some of the responses to the Machida Rua fight.
I personally had it 48-47 Rua. I very easily could have seen 3 of those rounds go either way. I dont think either fighter dominated. Neither was ever in any real danger but Shogun was on the cusp of danger at end of 3rd I believe.Machida definitely landed the cleaner punches.
Rua nickel and dimed Machida with leg kicks. Those first 3 rounds were really great and both guys were pretty intense.

4th and 5th it was very clear Machida had lost his legs , and had absolutely no plan B or a terrible corner. Machida was getting the better of nearly every single exchange to that point but never at any point kept up his aggression.I see no reason not to just go toe to toe in that 5th. The only damage being sustained were leg kicks while jumping in. At the end those leg kicks were numerous enough to win the fight.

I agree with w2b that this did alot more for Rua and Machida with Lyoto coming off as the hell and Rua the fan fave.If Rua wins its not exactly an impressive performance unless having gas in the 5th passes for impressive. A rematch needs to take place ASAP.

Kudos to Rua for looking in fantastic shape , winning a crowd. Kudos to both for standing in the ring looking like Ryu vs Sagat the first 2 rounds. And Kudos to L.Rob for making the only pre fight pro-Rua point that mattered. All that extra footage on Lyoto exposed the chinks in the armor. Rua didnt have to do anything other than time and anticipate what he saw on tape. Lyoto never adjusted.:kickballs:

Man the UFC got me again for 45$. first off i thought that tito was fighting or i would have never paid for the fight. when i finally realized he wasn't ( and i finally convinced my wife to watch it) it was too late.

i thought at least that i would be able to see the dragon machida fight.

that fight was a crock. shogun kicked the crap outta him. i cant believe that he got a unanimous decision.
