The loss is a blessing in disguise. Nobody thinks any less of Silva despite the loss because he got beat while goofing off, so the perception is that he's still a beast. But now this opens things up for some "superfights", without the title getting in the way. GSP, Bones, Weidman rematch, even Roy Jones, whoever. Silva & the UFC have some big, big money fights coming off of this. This was the rare instance due to circumstances that a megastar taking a KO L works to the benefit of all parties involved.

I believe Silva when he says he's tired of title fights. He has always been crafty about angling for big money fights, that's why he was so bored and annoyed when he faced guys like Cote & Maia, he knows the body only has so many fights in it and he hated wasting fights on guys like that. He's old, he will hit the wall soon, he knows he can pick & choose his opponents with more impunity without the title, floating from weight class to weight class, catch weights, no pesky title defenses in his way.

im not a big MMA fan, but i enjoy watching a legend and i have seen silva fight once before....whoever that last fight was against...some dude who filled in or something. Anyways, i was kind of disgusted by Silvas antics and was totally excited when he got his ass knocked out for acting like that. its one thing to taunt your opponent, but the shit he was doing was way over the top disrespectful imo.

i still want to know what all the hoopla is about Silva so i located a torrent that hass all his fights going back to 2006. I just finished watching the 2nd rich franklin fight. yes he is winning, but its not like destroying people legendary shit...at least not yet.

Anderson Silva has violently beaten the majority of his opponents since coming to the UFC in 2006. He fucked up Leben in his debut, then fucked up then-champ Rich Franklin twice. Prior to last night, he'd only been in danger once and it was in large part to a broken rib he fought with (the first Sonnen fight) and even then, he still pulled a clutch win by choking him out with about 30 seconds left in the fight.

He's fought all kinds of guys with different styles and beaten them all (Dan Henderson, Demian Maia, Thales Leites, Forrest Griffin, Yushin Okami, Vitor Belfort, etc.).

He moved up in weight and made Forrest Griffin and Stephan Bonnar look like fools.

He does things nobody else can thanks to his unbelievable reflexes (despite being in his late 30s mind you) and last night, it caught up to him. No, they didn't slow down on him and he did not look old....but he finally fought a guy who wasn't scared of him and instead of getting caught up in mind games, took the fight to him and knocked him the fuck out.

Silva is the GOAT and it was poetic justice that he got KO'd based on things he's done in victories time and again. I'll never forget the fight with Okami where he had his hands down by his waist and knocked Okami on his ass with a fucking jab. A fucking jab put him down.

That's obviously going to be your biggest problem in trying to determine the greatness of Silva, is not knowing his opponents or their reputation.

when u watch these fights in order you begin to see why he became so cocky. During the cote fight the crowd booed non stop because it was a no action fight then dude hurt his knee.

Next fight against Leites was more of the same even though silva was more aggressive, the other guy layed on his back all through the fight which went 5 rounds.

during both fights the announcers talked about the criticism silva would take for this. Up to this point, he had not taunted his opponents only showed shows a small amount of showboating against cote. the next fight against Forrest Griffith you see silva showboating and taunting his opponent and the crowd loved it. I assume the remaining fights are more of this taunting style

its clear silva heard the negative reaction and turned to this taunting style to please his fans. In many ways the fans could be blamed for his loss.
