Silva didnt put an ounce of effort into counter punches that round what a dummy. He didnt throw the fight but he basically seemed before and after like a guy whos just not interested.
Im not giving Weidman any props for flailing a dozen times and landing one on a guy who is basically begging for it. Silvas done this before and I agree its age catching up to him but clearly his reflexes were just the same as he spend the late part of the first and early second just prancing around shots. But hes always set something up or was clearly avoiding the ground. This was just frivilous. Silva actively deciding not to finish a guy and just lollygag just seemed like a please take this belt so I can move on situation. Chael Sonnen took it to Silva twice FWIW his losses were more impressive than this victory.
To me the question is whether he's done as in mentally checked out and physically spent from fighting or just his underhanded way of ditching the pressure and giving himself the stress free opportunity to come and go into other divisions as he pleases. Some thought Fedor would use that Boredum loss as motivation..instead he gets murdered twice in a row. So we'll see.
The fact hes worried about Roy Jone Jr is like Lebron throwing in the towel during game 7 and saying "Im just interested in trying to tackle Barry Sanders".

Just watched some other Silva fights. Other than Maia that's the most he taunted and played with a guy. He really went extreme this time stupidity or wanting to move on seems like the only answer. I'm starting to think he'd a done this awhile ago but Chael /Vitor made it personal. Weidman pulled zero desire out of him.


Getting tired of MMA matchmakers letting fighters be pussies. Dana bashes Fedor and SF for there never being a Brock/Fedor Overeem/Fedor but he let's Jones/Silva/GSP duck each other. He's such a hypocrite.

i dont agree that it was his age catching up to him. i just think he was over confident and too cocky and he got hit. i dont think his aging reflexes caused that because he was bobbing and weaving that entire 1st round and even when he got hit he was inches from avoiding it and got clipped.

the post fight stuff should be disregarded because here is a man who is a god to the sport who nobody expected to lose...and he got knocked out. that took him down a few thousand pegs and shocked the shit out of him....his comments reflected that

there was a point in the Maia fight when rogan talked about how white came ringside and was pissed at silva managers ringside. to me it seems a little Vince McMahon like when they want a fight to play a certain way.

its like they want silva to put on a show, but then get upset when a fight carries long

Yeah people are being hypocrites on both sides. I'm trying to be objective about it (maybe not succeeding) but this was him goofing around to the extreme. If Weidman wasn't so aggressive it had a Maia night written all over it. I mean an open hand slap and him telling Weidman where he's gonna kick him then landing it right after? Lol... Silva just refused to counter punch and did that weird floppy dance and begged for strikes more than he has since that Maia fight. It was really close to being dumb. If Weidman threw that reverse right intentionally than hats off to him for some great game planning. But it looked to me like he was hitting the desperate button while getting clowned and his left came at the perfect time.

Weidman won the first round, landed solid shots on the ground and on the feet, when have you seen And1 hit that solid in that short amount of time? Chael did on the ground but he can't bust a grape, Weidman hit him hard on the ground and standing

I think that's why in the 2nd Silva dropped his hands even lower to stop takedowns which is easier to do with your hands low, he wanted a striking match at that point, bait him into that and than he got rocked. Weidman wasn't scared and was able to get close enough with his reach which others have not been able too

Also, doubling up on the right threw off the timing of the classic 3-2-3 combo which Silva was trying to dodge. Weidman deserves more credit I think, Silva just didn't do what he always does, all that clowning is tactics, he didn't want to be on the ground anymore, if Chris didnt go for a kneebar he could have stayed there all round

Silva dropped his hands because he was clowning / baiting Weidman. He's done that in so many fights, I have no idea why you would attribute it to his take down defense.

I do gotta give Weidman props...I think he did his homework against Silva. It wasn't a lucky punch. Weidman knew he was going to clown / bait him and scouted out and trained how to get into it. Doubling the right threw Silva off and he went for broke with the left hook.

He's a clown, but not just a clown, there is a rhyme and a reason for the way Silva fights...you say its to help his takedown defense...I think its baiting. He's caught how many guys coming in to attack, many off balance, trying to catch him with his hands down when he's clowning and the end result was he knock them on their ass?
