Vikings locker room divided on Favre?

I'll give you the Eagles and Giants, but I don't see how you list the Packers who won all of 6 games last year. Minnesota won 10 without Favre. Giants are a toss-up because their receiver corps is trash now and they lost Ward.

I know it's just the pre-season, but the Packers are looking pretty deep at almost every position. So far their biggest concern seems to be punter.

I don't know, all I'm saying is it's not as cut and dry as people make it out to be. You bring in Favre, now all of the sudden it's "Superbowl or bust". Is it really fair to put that on Favre at this stage of his career? If you thought the Vikings were a playoff team before Favre, which many people did and they were last year, does a 40 year old Favre automatically thrust you past the Eagles, Giants, Bears, Cardinals and maybe the Packers? Not with the Favre I saw last year.

IMO, you are overanalyzing this. The question is: does Favre give the Vikings a better chance of winning compared with Sage Rosenfels and T. Jackson? IMO, the answer is yes.

The Cardinals are a threat if they get rolling towards the end of the season and into the playoffs like they did last season. But like Bucky said, Warner is the same as Favre, you don't really know how age is going to affect his play until the season gets underway. And like I said, the Cardinals weren't that good last season in a division that got a little stronger this off-season with Seattle's additions and if Crabtree signs with the Niners. Not saying those two teams will be great, but last season the only competition in that division was an average 49ers team. It was basically 6 free wins.

I agree, but too many people are putting them up there with the elites just because they got Cutler. That defense is still aging and seems to be doing worse every season.

I don't project them to win 6 games. Last year I thought it was between them and the Vikings for that division. I'm pretty high on the Packers, but they did only win 6 games last year so you can't put them up there with those other teams yet until they step on the field in a meaningful game.

The Jets won 4 the year before Favre got there. Yes, they added O-Line and D-Line help, but you can say the Vikings added WR and CB help. If you want to use your logic then the Vikings are set to win 15 games this season. I don't believe that, however I think adding Favre will help them win more games in the season and in the playoffs because he opens up the run so much. Teams can no longer stack 8-9 in the box against Minnesota like they did all of last season. Do you know how much that opens up the running game?

Wouldn't piss you off to have a guy who's in his early 40's coming onto your team, making 10 million, getting to miss the entire training camp and all the mini camps, and coming on to your team 3 weeks before the season after basically cock teasing the franchsie for the previous month or so?

All I'm saying is if he plays the last 4 games this year like he did last year (53.3 QB Rating 2 TD 8 INT), add in the possible lockeroom turmoil (just like in New York last year), it's a recipe for disaster. You say it's a different situation, well the Jets had the 9th ranked rushing attack last year. He played well and made the Jets a contender until he was physically unable to do so. He's already got arm issues, and he's 40 years old. You could be right, I just don't think it's ridiculous to at least question. I know one thing, either way it won't be boring.

3. Buffalo

5. St. Louis - Division
6. San Fran - Division
7. Seattle - Division
8. St. Louis - Division
9. Seattle - Division

6 of their 9 wins came out of their crappy division. Put them in any other division last season and they wouldn't have made the playoffs. Their only legit wins are against Miami and Dallas (I put Dallas because that was before Romo's injury).

On top of that they got beat by Washington who didn't make the playoffs, stomped by the Jets who didn't make the playoffs, stomped by the Giants, stomped by the Pats, stomped by the Vikings, and stomped by the Eagles.

Yes, they won the games that mattered in the end, but that doesn't mean anything this upcoming season. With a decent Seattle team and another weapon on the Niners, you may be taking away 2 of those easy wins from last season.

And let's face it, Arizona has failed to meet expectations so many times in recent years. I don't have a hard time believing they could bust this year and win 6-8 games. I don't think they will personally, I think they'll take that division with 9 or 10 wins, but I'm not ready to put them up there with the top teams during the season.

Tavaris Jackson was one of the worst starting quarterbacks in the NFL. His talent allowed him to do many unhelpful things, including running around and getting injured by someone he shouldn't try to truck through, and throwing the ball wide or too long for the target receiver. Furthermore, Childress had no confidence in him and put the team in impossible situations to nullify Jackson's influence as much as possible. Disregard anything said publicly, Brad's play calling revealed his true feelings. Jackson was only given the chance to throw when there was no other option, and if I can see that, you think the coaches around the league couldn't? Calling out run or pass was certainly more precise than guesswork for the teams Minnesota faced.

Anyone who thinks Favre with a repaired shoulder could possibly be worse than this should be shot. The downside to Favre is he is an interception threat, the upside is he is a touchdown threat. Favre opens up the game for Peterson immensely. Just taking a little bit of pressure off of Peterson makes us a serious contender. Minus the consistent champions like New England and Pittsburgh, there is not one team that is definitively better than us.

As far as the locker room divide ... If for some reason the Favre situation turned out badly (which it won't) what is the worst that could happen? Favre retires and Jackson says "fuck you guys I'm playing somewhere else"? Is this supposed to make Vikings fans worried? Where's the long-term concern? The players that matter are not going to hold a candlelight vigil for a no use quarterback, they'll be back the following year for another attempt at getting to the Superbowl.

I was saying in the season. You obviously missed the point. I didn't say they were a fluke. Let me state that again, Arizona's run in the playoffs was not a fluke.

What I was saying is that during the season it's not even a certainty that they will make the playoffs to begin with because they were pretty bad during the regular season and only got into the playoffs based on their horrible schedule. 6 of their 9 wins came off of division opponents, the weakest division in the NFC. Two of those three teams were cakewalks, the other was a mild challenge.

With Seattle adding Housh and getting back a healthy Hasselback, you may be taking a win off that schedule. If the Niners ever get Crabtree signed and with a year under Shaun Hill's belt, you may be taking another win off of that schedule. That team could easily go 6-10 next year, or they could go 12-4, but that's what it's been like with Arizona for the last 3 years or so.

He seemed to burn GB on a few blitzes Friday night. The GB defense made enough plays to still look good against a talented offense, but quite a few times Friday night, Warner read the GB blitz and burned it.

The GB D looked OK though, didn't it? I mean the 1's. They did give up some big plays, but they made enough plays to still look OK.

And the O just looked unstoppable (I know it's just preseason).

He also fell into some bad habits and while falling backwards, threw a punt duck in the air that a Houston's safety had a chance to intercept. He wasn't getting hit. He just threw that ball off of his back foot while falling backwards like he does. The kind of throw he has to avoid. The kind that killed GB in some playoff games.

HE has to get it in his head, that if he's going to be falling backwards, DON"T THROW THE BALL. If he avoids this and game manages like he did last night, then he'll be pretty good.
