The comeback thing is iffy to me because Peterson played most of last season and Manning didn't take a snap..

I think the AP comeback is more spectacular because of how quickly he came back and was able to still be dominant but he ran for almost 1,000 yards and 12 TDs last year.

Awards like these are so stupid though because there is no set criteria so crusty media dinosaurs just make their own.

If Mike Trout can't win an MVP in 2012 then no on deserves to.

I voted for Peterson, FWIW, but for the sake of discussion ... "not to be a homer or anything" ... but why no mention for Matt Ryan? Comparable numbers to Manning, Brady and Rodgers, and he's piloting the team with the league's best record.

Not saying he should win, just would like to hear reasoning as to why he doesn't belong in the conversation. What excludes him?

It's an award the media gives out and they've created this narrative that nothing the Falcons do in the regular season matters, because of that he won't even realistically sniff MVP.

On top of that he's thrown less TDs and more INTs than the trio of Rodgers/Manning/Brady.

You could make an argument but I left him off the list cause I already know he's unlikely to even finish top 3 in voting, probably unlikely to finish top 4.

Manning is likely to win, but I do agree that Peterson deserves a strong push. Running game is almost an afterthought to most, and he's carried the Vikings. It's just one game, but if the Vikings defense doesn't let RGIII break a 70 yard run, the Vikings are already in the playoffs and Peterson has a much better shot at this award.

As far as comeback player, I ignore both of these guys and would give it to Logan Mankins, even though he technically didn't come back from anything. Still ended up playing all of 2011 with a torn ACL, tore two support ligaments in the playoffs and still played, and was starting Week One.

If you're looking at who's actually more valuable he's behind Manning/Rodgers/Brady. If you're looking at stats, numbers wise he's worse than all three.

The media slighting him isn't a good reason but will come into play.

The argument for Ryan is basically: "but but his team has the most wins and his numbers are comparable." That will not be enough.

Like you said, it can't be proven. I don't know that he is, but I don't know that he isn't either. This thread seems to be operating under the assumption that we know he isn't as valuable, and I just wanted to know why that perception is there.

Peyton Manning should win the Comeback award and it shouldn't even be a debate. He missed an entire season and was tossed aside like trash over concerns about his neck. Six months ago, people were saying he could be facing a career ending and potential paralyzing injury if he stepped back on the field.

MVP, I dont care. You can make a case for any of the guys mentioned in the thread, including Ryan. Much like the stupid Cabrera/Trout debate, none of them are 'wrong'.

At this point Manning is like LeBron James in that simply by the style of play and how the team is constructed a case could be made for Manning to be MVP every year. Manning is just doing what Manning does. Given what he faces every game and how mediocre his QB is I vote for Peterson.

It should be Adrian Peterson, it will be Peyton Manning because the media loves QB's and are wrong most of the time.

Last year the Broncos made it to the DIVISIONAL round of the playoffs with Tim Tebow at QB. People are acting like Peyton came in and turned the team around which is incorrect, they were already very strong and really have had a cakewalk of a schedule. Give him QB of the year and comeback player of the year, but he is not the MVP this year.

Adrian Peterson is literally carrying a team by himself in one of the toughest divisions in football, with wins over Chicago, San Francisco and Houston. He has no help, defenses know he is getting the ball 25-30 times a game, and it's up to him to make dazzling runs. This is arguably the BEST season of football I've ever seen anyone play. They were 3-13 last year, this team is not good at all without Adrian Peterson.
