IMO, it's simply EA not programming for the PS3 as a base.
Porting from the 360 to the PS3 kills all their games.
All their 360 games are 1080p, their PS3 games 720p. That tells you something isn't right.
And, in fairness, MLB The Show has the same issue - it's optimized for 720p, which tells you the PS3 can be a bitch to program for, or programmers are clueless.

Both Microsoft and Sony are really hush hush when it comes to how their two networks actually work.

Microsoft to their credit has recently started an engineer blog where they attempt to answer some of the little questions about how certain things on live work. Most of you might remember the thread about how an achievement is actually created. Its such an overly complicated process for a simple little thing.

Anyways the whole why is the PS3 laggy and live isn't thing really comes down to resources spent on live. Microsoft now has a good 6 or 7 years of extra income off people paying for their service to use for live. How live works compared to the playstation network is a relative mystery. Neither side has it out in the open how it works. The only thing that can be said is microsoft has spent their money wisely on their network. Little things like party chat for example can be done rather easily on live because of the way the protocols and system works. They've done things like employing 30 something people to work just on the welcome screen. Thats all those peoples jobs are is to program that stupid screen every day. They can do things like that thanks to getting money for that service every month.

I remember the first time I tried out a PS3 a few years ago and just dieing in laughter at how long it took to get into games that on live at home would happen in seconds. NHL 08 was painful for PS3. "at least I don't have to pay for it" was my buddies response. I still shake my head at that because in the time we managed to get two games in we could of done at least 4 on my xbox.

Live has around 20million subscribers.

WoW alone has around 10million right now peeking up to 11.5 in 2008 and thats only one game lol.

My main point is that M$ doesn't give a shit about any of us. The bottom line is that they are a business and their number one goal is to make money. I fully understand that. But constantly fucking your consumers in the ass is bad business and it will eventually bite them in the ass. Maybe it will be next gen, whenever that is. I don't know when but it will happen, I think a lot of people are taking their shit now because there weren't aren't a whole lot of options. The 360 was first on the scene. Even a year later when the PS3 came out it was $200 more so for most people it still wasn't an option. Once MS got that install base built up with the combination of being FIRST and CHEAPER they basically had everyone in the palm of their hands.
There are article all over the place about how MS is overplaying their hands with their lead this gen and it will bite them in the ass. At least it will if people had half a fucking brain.

Oh, I haven't been reading through the thread so I'm not sure.

But, I do agree with you as far as the prices go. That's why I don't purchase any extra accessories or anything along those lines.

All of that, if you decide to buy it, is your own god damn issue. You guys complain so much, but you also all paid what, $100-200 more at some point for your PS3. You can still play online, you can still play offline, it isn't something you "need".

If you were to only play XBL for 3 hours a day at 70 dollars a year, you'd be paying 15 cents per hour. In what other media, or anything at all can you get 1 hour of entertainment for 15 cents?

And that's just 3 hours. I hardly sleep and I get those 3 hours in between the time of 2-5am. That's not including any playing I'd do during the day.
