[360] Xbox Live increasing $10 per year

Twigg, your level of vitriol for the 360 is beyond comprehension. This isn't in direct response to what I quoted, more just in response to your position in general on the subject. You get SO pissed off about this stuff, yet you fall into the same supposed "traps" as everyone else. For example: you piss and moan about the MS Points system, yet you still participate with them. You piss and moan about the rising costs of Arcade games, but you buy them. You piss and moan about shit that MS does in general, yet you still buy games for the system. I don't get it, to be honest. I'm not calling you out here or anything, but it just doesn't make sense. It's a market based on the consumer. MS wants to make a profit and sees that it can continue to make larger profits because people are going to still buy the stuff (and this is at the simplest level, not even including rising costs of EVERYTHING). Then you, the supposed white knight in this story, come rolling in on this shining steed of yours and grandstand about the principle of the issue and all of that. But honestly, it's bullshit. Unless you're a communist, you have no business arguing or bitching about MS increasing prices for services or items. Your ONLY responsibility as a consumer in a free market, is to show your personal disdain for the product by not paying for it. That's it.

Other than that, nothing else makes sense. You're never going to convince someone like myself, who enjoys Live and would pay an extra 10 for it, to stop. If it gets too high for my own personal taste, that'll be when I stop subscribing, just like everyone else out there.

Yes I buy arcade games. The only arcade game I've played full price for any time recently was Lara Croft. That game is awesome and is well worth $15. Had it came out for the PS3 day and date, hell if there just wasn't going to be free DLC on 360, no question I would've went PS3.Oh yeah, and Limbo. That game was very good too but I wish I could get $5 back somehow. I definitely bought into the hype. But that was a 360 exclusive so it's a moot point.
The only games I really buy for 360 these days are exclusives. All my multiplatform games are PS3 now. One, because I can't stand MS's marketing strategy and 2) all my friends play on PS3.
Yes, I bitch. I bitch about the PS3 all the time as well, but it's funny how that shit never blows up. Probably because the so called "PS3 fanboys" take it as a legitimate gripe, we discuss it and move on. For some reason when I make a derogatory comment about the almighty 360 some people around here act like I'm attacking one of their own children.

The bottom line is that I love gaming. I will play my 360 as long as it still continues to work. If it breaks and it;s out of warranty I assure you I'll be done with it. Come next console cycle? I probably won't give MS any of my money although I will never say never because I am such a huge gamer. The problem now is that I am thoroughly invested in this thing. Thousands of dollars that I will never get back so I will ride it out and complain about bullshit to my hearts content.

I just can't stand MS's marketing strategy. It seems like everything they do nowadays totally bends us over. I think they've done plenty of awesome things though. For one, I was just discussing with my wife how I love some of the little things about Live. I like how when I leave my game idle it shows that I'm idle in Game X. It also shows whether I'm playing multiplayer or campaign. Great information for people on my friends list that may be thinking about inviting me to something or not.

All I do is ask that you same motherfuckers call me out when I bitch about some stupid shit that Sony does. But I guess it's ok for me to complain about that and not about the almighty 360. Hail MS!

I would like to add them I've been playing the shit out of my 360 for probably the last two months. Between both Call of Juarez games, Borderlands, Lara Croft, Metro 2033, Rogue Warrior (a whole 3 three hours, LOL) and now Saboteur. Plus I have Bioshock 2, Singularity and Wolfenstein after that.

So save all the "Twigg hates Xbox" garbage. I just can't stand some of Microsoft's (are you happy I spelled it out Leaf?) policies. Just like I can't stand a lot of Sony's policies.

I will say this about the 360/XBL as a dashboard and as a service.

It stopped innovating the day NXE arrived. That was basically MS saying "we're playing catchup in the kiddie market so we'll abandon any significant projects"

Great premise with the dashboard interaction. But them having to dumbdown the cameras twice now for the sake of costs makes me think it will suck.

Slow , cumbersome , often unresponsive in comparison to previous iterations.
Avatars that are only unique if your willing to spend obscene amounts of MS points for a fuckin pair of boots.

Media ?
Media Center was rendered useless with the lack of updates and ZERO work on functionality and UI.
Having to go through Netflix and ESPN to give people content shows just how bad they failed.


Lastly... they have every right to increase there yearly fees. But what they are offering is not in line with it. "Free" membership should come with more features. All this extra social/media garbage should be an optional charge. Silver/Gold/Platinum.
Instead they just force everyone to pay for junk.

But back to the topic. The more I think about it the more I think that it isn't really the cost increase but the way they decided to do it. I was listening to the CAGcast earlier and they made a ton of great points. One of the things that Shipwreck said was that we are obviously getting a TON more for $60/year then we ever got for $50/year when Live initially launched. But he also said we shouldn't be paying anyway.
Cheapy D made the best point of all though. He was saying it wasn't really the increase but teh way MS went about it. Instead of saying "We are adding enhanced voive chat, expanding your friends list, etc and also working to improve your service everyday. With the costs of all this we unfortunately have to increase the cost $10." Instead they tell you they are enhancing voice chat a week earlier and then just say the other day "The price is going up. Deal with it." It couldn't have been a worse way to do it from a marketing or consumer standpoint. He evn went on to say, chuckling his ass off mind you, that they really threw Major Nelson under the bus, which I totally agree. I think he's a toolbox anyway but they basically said to him "Ok Larry, we're going to need you to post on your blog that Live is going up $10. You're probably going to get a ton of hateful messages. Good luck!"

They talked about the controller redesign and how stupid they think it is that they are forcing you to buy a play-n-charge kit with the controller at $65, which is exactly what I said. Shipwreck speculated that they will probably release th standalone controller a month or so later at the usual $50 but why piss off the consumers in the beginning in the first place?

A. No voice = no purchase. Kinect is quickly heading to flopsville.

C. The play and charge thing is grimy. Felt the same about the Red controller. If it wasnt for Amazon/Buy.com super deals I would never buy a new controller.

D.Agreed with the overall delivery. Just stupid. Listen Gates isnt there anymore. Cant expect MS to be as smart and focused as they used to be. I dont like anything xbox has offered in terms of service/features in 2 years outside of netflix. Kinect was a last hope to win me over.
I hate PS controllers and Gears of War is exclusive so Im not budging anytime soon.

BTW youve officially bummed me out on Kinect. The ability to pick up sign language and voice commands not being present REALLY turns it into an expensive eye toy.

kinect will have voice capability at launch but only with english, spanish (mexican), and one other language however they plan to have more languages out next quarter

in regards to sign language they took it out as it wasn't cost affective to leave it in but they said in the future it will be a part of the kinect
