Three months and one week, but again, the Cote fight was a 5-round title fight. Plus Silva moved up a weight class for the can fight.

Stop acting like Overeem is being asked to something competely and utterly unreasonable. Neither Barnett nor Cormier are bitching about this. Silva has had a similar turnaround time for a title fight.

Overeem is being a princess.

The blame either falls on Showtime or Coker. Then Overeem. The last people I would blame are 'Zuffa'. What does that even mean? Who is Zuffa? Coker? In that case, yeah.

BTW, he is now officially out. Cormier is in. And he is likely to be cut.

Does Coker sit in an office all day and stare at a wall? He is running this thing, and its been one disaster after another the entire way.

Showtime gives them a Saturday in Oct, problem solved. But Showtime is being difficult.

Alistair Overeem, the Strikeforce heavyweight champion, defeated Fabricio Werdum at Strikeforce GP’s first round, but he’s no longer fighting at the tournament.


The fighter told MMA Fighting he wouldn’t fight at September 10th, and TATAME learned with sources close to the situation that he has been removed from the GP.


Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva, who defeated Fedor Emelianenko at the first round, fights undefeated wrestler Daniel Cormier next. On the other semifinal, Josh Barnett takes on Sergei Kharitonov.

Deathblow to the tournament IMO. The entire premise was to A) establish your champion/belt and B) determine who was the best HW in the world. When you have your champion and favorite to win the whole thing bow out, it kills the credibility of the GP.

There are talks that he refused to take the fight because it was his last fight and was in the middle of contract negotiations.

Yup. Surfacing now. He had a two fight deal before the GP started.

WHY THE HELL ARE YOU PUTTING A GUY IN A TOURNAMENT THAT REQUIRES THREE FIGHTS WHEN HE ONLY HAS TWO FIGHTS LEFT ON HIS DEAL???

Bottom line, is Overeem wants a new deal, and is using the toe as an excuse. Coker tried to get an October date, and it's too bad Showtime wouldnt play ball, because then Overeem's bluff would have been called.

So basically, SF said, "look, the fight is in September, take it or leave it". Even if he took the fight, they would likely have to replace him anyway if he would have won because his contract was up. He refused the fight, so they just replaced him now since they are locked into September thanks to Showtime.

Coker and his staff of like 3 people can't ever plan anything more than a month in advance, Showtime is proving why Zuffa is always weary of giving networks too much control, and Overeem tried a powerplay and failed. Ridiculous situation from all sides.
