Summary:
This day was made especially for football. Sunny as hell itself with absolutely no clouds in the air. Just blue sky. Although, being in Texas, it was blazing hot. The Falcons probably played so well because they wanted to hurry and get the hell out of the heat and into some air conditioning.
This game was the Falcons first Sun Belt conference "test". I believe they have passed the tested with flying colors if the score indicates anything. Freshman off a new "promotion", Raw Blung came out firing on all cylinders and had 2 TD's at the end of the game. He hit a rough patch in the 2nd and 3rd with 2 INT's, but he shook it off and kept throwing completion after completion. Not only did the newly promoted QB do well, but WR Scott Mescudi continues to shine. He finished we 3 receptions for 75 yards and a TD. Kyle Hadley, as always, did amazing. I am starting to get a wiff of many awards for this True Freshman. He continues to demolish the competition and after this recent game he is leading all categories in the Sun Belt conference.
This game showed how damn good the defense can be. The defensive line was getting some pressure on the QB with 1 sack for DT Jones. The shining position in this game has to be the DB's, though. With 3 INT's and 2 TD's collectively they shut down the QB all game long. Jag Quincey was nominated as the Sun Belt defensive player of the week with his amazing performance of 10 tackles, 2 INT's, TD and a sack. His interception that he took to the house was also an NCAA record breaker. His return was 96 yards which broke the previous record of 80 yards set by a Cal DB. For the first time this season we heard the name of the DSC Falcons Nickle Back, Jay Rock. He returned an INT back for a TD and finished with 6 tackles.
Teams love carrying momentum from the previous week of pounding their opponents. Unfortunetaly, for the Daytona State Falcons, this si not the case. They have a BYE on their schedule and will have to try to stay fired up for the week 6 game against SONSO.
