Scrap it, start over. The team is a monster mess with a shit load of dead weight money...
They have an offer out to Reyes, but Reyes is determined to get Crawford money...I would rather trade him as a rental, get something in return, and then go and bid on him on the open market, especially if he doesn't come to terms soon.
Johan Santana, Carlos Beltran, Jason Bay, K-Rod...nearly 60M between them and Reyes and with Reyes' impending contract explosion...a whole lot of money going to nobody.
Get what you can, scrap the whole damn mission.Comment

Better than having a huge payroll only to have 200 people in the ballpark.

Besides, they can't get good enough value for Reyes to deal him.
If they can get rid of K-Rod, by all means trade his ass and get out from the $17 million he'll likely get next year.
If the team is in contention in 2-3 weeks, the only guy I'd okay trading is K-Rod.

Teams have called the Reds for Ramon Hernandez, but I cant see them trading him even if they fall out of the race, because he would be a Type A FA based on his numbers the last two years, so the FA compensation would likely be better than what anyone would give up in a trade.
Also look for AF to try and add a lefty arm for the 'pen, and of course, the trading of BJ Upton which I firmly believe will happen this year. I also wouldn't be shocked to see Farnsworth dealt as well.Maddon & Friedman: Pissing off the AL East since 2008

And if they're 5 games out of the wild card? No way you can scrap it. Potential playoff run puts asses in the seats and if they strike gold and make it, that's an extra whatever million dollars in revenue.

Mets shouldn't scrap it, especially when you have a glut named Jason Bay eating up payroll, along with Santana.
If anything the lone piece I could see them trading is K-Rod, then maybe acquiring a Mike Adams to close until the end of the year or until they feel Parnell can become that closer.
It's not like the Mets are OLD everywhere. They have Ike Davis, Tejada/Turner/Murphy, Reyes, Wright, Pagan, Thole, Gee, Dickey, Niese, Parnell, Beato as a solid core. These guys, outside of Wright and Reyes are cost controlled and mostly effective MLB players. And all, besides Dickey and Pagan are under 30 years old. (Dickey extended his career by about 5-7 years with his knuckleball effectiveness).
Most of this team is young or in their prime. If anything you re-tool and that's what I feel the Mets will do.
Reyes won't be traded...
Beltran...depends on how well the team is...if they are close, I think they will stand pat.
Obviously you want to add to the minor league system which is coming up slowly but don't deplete the MLB team unnecessarily...it would be stupid for a large market team to lose a player...IN IT'S PRIME. Either we are large market, or they operate like the Royals or something.
and I truly hope Pelf is traded although he's a workhorse...he's just too inconsistent and he's going up against the top pitchers in the game...Originally posted by Nick MangoldWes Welker is a great player. He's really taken advantage of watching film. If we don't keep a Spy on him, he could really open the Gate.Comment

They are the definition of a middling team and they really have no true hope to be any better than middling for the immediate future, in my opinion...big contract to now middling, past their prime players. Some young guys with talent, but no future studs.
From here, they can continue to be middling or hit the bottom sooner rather than later and build.Comment

Marlins Get: Mike Cameron
Red Sox Get: player to be named later or cash
Marlins buying! I like when teams don't throw in the towel. Good for them.
There must not have been much interest in Cameron, which surprises me a little, unless teams were expecting the time period to elapse and then sign him as a FA. I'm assuming the Marlins were the only team to even make an offer.Comment

Just read where the White Sox might dangle Carlos Quintin to the Braves for some pitching...(Beachy or Minor)Comment

I would be surprised if the Braves gave up either of them. I haven't seen much of Quentin this year to say, but is his defense still bad? If so, that's a bad deal for Atlanta.Comment
