I'm in the Joe Mantana camp myself.

I asked this question not 10 minutes after the SB. How does this loss effect Peyton as compared to the GOAT's? Not one of the 15-17 guys thought Peyton was the GOAT. The room was split however on who was the GOAT's. The names I heard most were Montana, Elway, Marino, and Unitas. Nobody felt Manning deserved top 5 consideration at this point. None of these guys were VSN'ers, nor were any of them big on ESPN or SC.

Let me guess, they jumped off the bandwagon now that Manning lost last night, right?
I think he's on pace TO be the best ever. But obviously isn't there yet. I think once it's all done, once he's added 5-6 more years he'll be there.

        See that I can't buy into. I think he's top 5.

Montana had such a great set up with Walsh fucking up defenses, guys like Jerry Rice who would run the correct route, defenses that were some of the best around, an owner that would pay everyone to play for them, etc...

Montana is great, but some of you guys are just taking it to far, also throw in the Pats cheating during Mannings run and you probably took a super bowl or 2 from the Colts
Joe Montana did it when football was still football.. Not the pussified pile of donkey spunk that it is today. And he did it more than once. If you ask me, I think we should hold that against Peyton Manning, because if a grocery store clerk can get to three superbowls in todays horrible game, Peyton Manning, being as great as he is, should have 5 superbowls by now. Tom Brady has what? Three? And the guy was drafted in the 7th round, I think. Football today is a complete fucking joke - if half the shit was scripted, I wouldn't be shocked. Jay Cutler will probably throw for 30+ TDs in 2010, and of course, it's all due to how ''talented'' he is.

Archer knows I back Peyton and the Colts, but better than Joe Montana, he is not.

I should have prefaced that with I think Peyton is top 5 all-time and was shocked that a room full of guys, like I said 15-17 of them ranging from 19 yrs up to 60 yrs old. None of them thought he was a top 5. Kind of a shocker really.

Yeah, I think that's safe to say. I still think he'll add another bowl and if he retired today, he's probably 2 or 3... in my mind.

Yeah, I have no problem giving it to Montana right now, but I'm laughing at people that are putting Brady over him, Unitas, etc. and saying he bumped himself out of the top 5. That's just dumb.

I made the mistake of turning on ESPN today, and the first thing I heard was how Peyton Manning hurt his legacy with the interception last night. ESPN, the same network that kisses Brett Favres ass, and mentions his name as being the greatest of all-time.. Because we all know, that motherfucker never makes mistakes.

                        Peyton Manning > ESPN.

It's far too soon to be talking about Manning's legacy one way or the other, the guy still has some great football left, and like you said, I'm almost certain he's going to add another ring to that... and, of course, more postseason victories.

Just don't watch ESPN's football coverage. I'm convinced it's dumbing down football fans.

                            They all do it

NFLN isin't quite as bad but they still have Deion Sanders hanging around which always dumbs things down

I'm not sure why the NFL attracts so many horrible TV people compared to other sports

I was thinking that the other day too. He doesn't have to be that way, but it seems. FOX in-studio is a joke. CBS is bad. I don't get NFLN so I don't listen much and ESPN's is just brutal.

                              Why is that?

They pander to the lowest common denominator of football fans.

Because analysts used to be players, and they were hit on the head way too many times?
