Things are not going well for the Caps right now. Started off well, but we are 3-6-1 in our past 10. Semin has been benched and then a healthy scratch and looks like he doesn't want to play anymore. Ovechkin has struggled and isn't even on a PPG pace. Just an interesting note, Nicklas Backstrom is the only player currently averaging that. Veteran Mike Knuble was on the fourth line at a point.

You have to when you see Jason Chimera leading the team in goals, and when you see the Panthers on top of this division.

At this point, I wonder if Boudreau is going to make it through the season. He is dangerously close to losing the locker room.

We started 7-0, beating Florida, Carolina, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, Philly, Detroit and Ottawa. Its been slow going since then, and because we started like we did, I think it is a dangerous place for Boudreau right now.

I also agree with you on Semin. If he keeps this up, he certainly won't be getting paid $6 million a season next year, and his only option may be a one year deal. Heck, the Caps may not even want him back, regardless of Boudreau. He just hasn't bought into the defense-first philosophy installed almost a year ago.

That is the thing.....Knuble is a part of that group, and we know he knows what is up. Same with Roman Hamrlik and Tomas Vokuhn- I was pumped over those signings because they were what the Caps needed and brought in veteran experience for this squad.

Boudreau is a disciplinarian, so I don't know who you replace him with. Can't be another guy like him, because the message will be lost again, but if you pick someone who is "buddy buddy" with the players, it won't work either. The team is in a tough spot.

Probably a combination of Chimera (another player wearing the A) and Knuble. Ovechkin just wasn't ready when they named him captain- I was really surprised then that it wasn't Knuble, but they've made their bed for that decision.

Who would you name the head coach? I'm not disagreeing with anything you are saying, but with Ken Hitchcock in St Louis, no other name really stands out to me as someone who can handle this team.

I also don't think that they strip Ovechkin of the captaincy. They have invested too much in him to pull off a move like that, regardless of whether or not it is a good idea or the right thing to do.
