The fate of MMA in NY will apparently be decided Wednesday when State Assembly Dems (the majority party) meet to discuss the issue. Whether it comes to a vote or not will literally be based on one man....the most powerful politician in the state (aside from the Governor, although he's essentially right there)....Speaker Sheldon Silver.
Mind you, this is the same man in hot shit because he helped keep allegations of sexual harrasment towards a former peer (disgraced former Assemblymen Vito Lopez) under wraps.
ALBANY — Gov. Cuomo is getting closer to his breaking point with Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, insiders say. Cuomo, who has been publicly supportive of the embattled Silver, continues to f…
Story there is about how Cuomo is getting sick and tired of Silver's bullshit because he's being asked about said bullshit.
Silver, apparently, will only push the pro-MMA bill to a vote if he "sees" enough support form his peers. Mind you, womens groups have come out recently against the sport (spouting the same ol tired BS from the Culinary Union)...yet they apparently have no public issue with Silver, ironically.

He gave the new champ a lot props and that's commendable.

More explaining from Silva as to the loss to Weidman....
"Getting knocked out is the worst. There are always going to be questions -- people want to know what happened, but [when you're knocked out] you don't remember anything. You black out and that's it. It [the awkward movement] was a technical error to keep my legs parallel; I should have taken a step back instead. Several factors led to the knockout. The tension in the air before the fight, you just want to burst ... it was a series of mistakes. In my career, I've always went back to my corner [for advice]. Against Weidman, I went back to argue, and I should have gone back to my corner and calmed down. I didn't do any of that; I lost control."
