Not really surprised by the releases, but disappointed. Always thought Burchill could be more. Hope he ends up in ROH - I think a feud between him and Black could be awesome. He would just get lost in TNA.

Maria was a favorite, but apparently she was making a fair bit of money for a Diva. And Diva's don't draw. She was decently over yet she really couldn't work at all. They could've done so much more with her - she would've been awesome as the "damsel in distress" situations...

Again, it likely came down to money. Maria was apparently making significantly more than almost any other Diva. Its kinda tough to justify her making the same money as someone like Mickie James. And yeah, I wish they would've found more ways to use her - valet, etc - but makes her more useful, not more valuable.

As for Burchill, he was a glorified jobber because that's what they made him. He has the tools - good size, athletic (250 lbs and can do a standing shooting star), and decently charismatic. I mean, the guy made a pirate gimmick work. He may never have been a world champion, but he at least could've been the kind of solid midcarder who should be the backbone of a promotion.

It's interesting that TNA is choosing to begin to go head to head with Raw during Wrestlemania season, when everyone knows this is when WWE puts out their best programming.

I'm hoping that this Hogan-Abyss thing leads to Abyss turning on him after awhile, reverting back to his monster ways. Having this big goof come out to "American Made" was horrifying to watch, and his mic work is fast-forward material. But it's hard to be so critical because when you look at all the current top stars, they all started with some bullshit gimmick before they broke through.

Abyss was basically an early-'Mankind' rip-off to begin with, a dude that got over by murdering his opponent in and out of the ring.

Also, like all hardcore types, he brought in garbage wrestling with the tacks and barbed wire.

Then they brought in Judas Mesias in to feud with him as well as Sting to "try and save him."

He turned face...
