I agree its a combination of shitty finishing, bad luck, no Lucas, no Stevie for a good part, the Suarez ban and the fact that we've too many good/deccent players and not enough great ones. We've been out of real contention for so long that I'm not gonna get heated over what we do in the league at this point, have we been good enough to deserve Top 4 this season probably not but we've been better than our results.
We are not better than our results. Thats the point of playing a full 38 games to accurately determine and display your side's true ability. Our quality is that of a mid-table club. We don't even have enough good players. Lucas and Suarez our are great players. Stevie is still there too but he is getting up there in years and it doesn't seem he can regularly feature as much anymore. I wish he could, but this appears to be the reality.

These are the players that I would like to see regularly play next season:
Reina- Still one of the best. He took a gamble today and guessed wrong.
Johnson- Arguably our best wide player.
Coates- Another young player who needs time when we can give it to him.
Skrtel- Possibly our best player this season.
Agger- Him and Skrtel partner very well and with Lucas in front, our defense is the best in the league.
Enrique- I would like to see Kelly more on the right and Johnson on the left but Enrique is still good. He probably shouldn't go forward as much and he seems to be a guy who plays better as his team does better.
Lucas- We really miss him. A great player. Hopefully his knee recovers 100%.
Henderson- He's never going to set the world on fire but he's a good center mid.
Stevie- I mentioned it above, getting up there and we should be in the market for a creative center mid.
Shelvey- Still too young to feature in every match, but should definitely get some time.
    Suarez- Obviously.
Kuyt- Only if he agrees to be a squad player and not a regular first team player.

We need a winger and a striker most of all.

So your gonna sit there and tell me West Brom deserved to win, we were all over them and I'm still not sure how we managed to lose. I'm well aware results > everything but I don't know how many times that this has happened this season, the players certainly have to take a good chunk of the blame but we haven't got the results that our play has deserved alot this season, Spurs and City away are the only 2 games that come to mind where we've been properly outclassed and Bolton away when we played like shite.
      .
We're like the anti-United, they play shit and manage to still win, we play well and draw/lose

e: Don't get me wrong I agree 100% our league performance is not acceptable but I can't remember the amount of times we've drawn or lost this season that I've been at a loss to understand how it happened (aside from the obvious piss poor finishing ).

If this were the beginning of the year and this game happened. I would say ah well, we controlled the match but just couldn't get a goal or two. The results will come, I'm not worried. That is no longer the case. It doesn't matter if we deserve to win or not, only that we do win. I think this may the dressing room mentality of our players. That eventually the ball will just end up in the net and we'll get the win. It is not the case. We can't blame luck or wait for things to go way. We have to go out there and take the three points, not wait for it to come to us.

I agree with all of this it's definitely a mental issue with the players lacking the self belief that they're gonna score and they need to take the majority of the blame but at the same time our defence has been excellent for the most part (3rd behind the top 2), chances keep on being created and some of it has been luck (hit the post another 2 times today). Pretty much while the results haven't been there, I'm far more understanding than when Roy was here and we were having similar results because the product on the pitch is better even if the results aren't at this stage, it's gotta even itself out eventually.

Don't underestimate what a shambles we were in when KK took over. It's gonna take longer than we would like but we're getting there, I mean it was great just to be in a cup final again let alone 2 in 1 season, I think we really need to be patient and give him more than 1 full season. If we are back here next year in this same position then yea maybe things need to change but for now, no. As I've said many times before, at the start of the season 4th was my main concern but I think as we can see now, we were being overly optimistic if we thought it was realistic. You can chose to be negative if you want but all things considered I think there's far more to be positive about moving forward.

an fa cup run which we beat utd and everton in the semi yeah?
also you do remember we beat man city in the league cup semi, yeah?

i can see it now, 10 years time, dad and lad having a talk over footy...

"dad ,dad, dad, everyons been talking about 2012, said it was an epic season, what happened, tell me dad"

"well son, it truly was, we finished fourth"

"ah right dad can i watch police academy 97"

              or

"dad ,dad, dad, everyons been talking about 2012, said it was an epic season, what happened, tell me dad"

"well son, we won the league cup, and won the fa cup, beating everton in the semi final"

"ah dad can we watch the dvds"

Like it or not, if we win the fa cup , ten years time, history books will say

              League winners = utd/city
              League cup winners = Liverpool
              Fa cup winners - Liverpool
Sums up my feelings about this season to a tee, we are still a work in progress, have some faith.

Thing is, we finish fourth, we attract better players because of CL football. We also earn more money, attract even more sponsors. Better players=better results, thus we keep getting better.

The FA Cup would be great. However, it doesn't do much in the way of making potential targets dream of playing for us.

Also winning the League is a far greater accomplishment than Carling or FA, or even both. The only thing that beats winning your league is winning the Champions League.

Non of which I disagree with and 4th over anything else was what I wanted at the start of the season but it was always gonna be a big ask and was unrealistic as we can now see, especially once Lucas went down.

But the League was never gonna happen, if we do the double we've won 2 out of the 3 competitions we've been in how is that not a success or progress? We were in the bottom 3 18 months ago.

We were also higher than this at this point last season. I don't really believed we've progressed. We're about the same, maybe a little worse. The cup and cup final is nice but the league is a true representation of your ability.

We had Lucas then, some of the players involved are gone, new ones coming in adjustment period, how many games this season have we been able to play what would be our full strength team (none), etc.

We could argue all day about this, I see progress, you don't, guess we're just gonna have to agree to disagree.

Got sidetracked but my thoughts from the match:

                          - Same old shit, bossed the entire match (1 of if not the most 1 sided game I've watched all season) and nothing to show for it, as soon as it got to 60 minutes and it was 0-0 I knew how it was gonna end

                          - Didn't get a goal but I thought Andy played well yet again

                          - Suarez was great (when he played it across the goal for Agger that was brilliant) but he's still shouldering far too much of the load when it comes to creating and attacking

                          - Hendo looked good (he's definitely best suited to play in the middle), the move that led to him hitting the crossbar was fantastic, 20 mil was still ott for where he is now as a player but I think he'll be great in a few years

                          - Dirk's miss early on

                          - Thought Pepe could have done better on the goal but Glen should have never put him in that position in the first place

ino and they were saying they need fire power. YET they bought carrol for 35 million- flop and suarez for 25 odd million, only 8 goals this season, has to be considered a flop too. SHITE!

This is the kinda shit I have to put up with from mancs on a daily basis. Luis a flop?

Next Monday can't come soon enough.

Hey man, if i spent 60 million and only got 8 goals in return, i would be pissed.

                                Silly manc is silly

Luis has 8 goals and 5 assists in the league and has scored 14 in all competitions this season, bearing in mind that he has missed 9 games through suspension (a quarter of the season). You'll hear no argument from me about Andy but to say Luis has been a flop is laughable only a manc would come out with such utter shite
