#unpopularopinions: the original is good but overrated, and the "twist" is so telegraphed. I hate to be that guy, because I loved the movie.

That being said, this fucking shit turd was so damn unnecessary.

Well, the "big one" was what I referring to. I think any of the twists are telegraphed, and I found nothing in it particularly surprising (definitely shocking at moments though). But Palooza already summed up what is great about the movie anyway. Like I said, I love the movie, but I think that it's overrated.

EDIT: maybe twist is the wrong word for a lot of what happens in the movie. I consider the major one to be really the only one, because to me it builds itself to a reveal. The other reveals are simply an instance of "this information hasn't been revealed to the viewer yet".

It's really hard to talk so cryptically about this.

I still think you're being Captain Hindsight. Even though they hint at certain things throughout the movie in regards to the major twist, it still comes a bit out of left field, not to mention the two "semi-major" twists blur each other making them not very obvious until the moment they are about to occur.

I commented to my girlfriend that my theory was that Mi-do was his daughter and that it was some sort of punishment. I couldn't have known the nature of said punishment, obviously, as that information wasn't provided until later. Maybe I've just seen too many movies, but the second this young girl was into him, that was where I felt it was going to go.

It's a well done reveal, I was referring more to people that acted like it was some crazy level of mindblowing twist. It just didn't have that effect on me because I personally saw the incest angle from Dae-su's side coming.

So much this. You are used to certain elements existing in a movie. Reveals are commonplace, if there is a time gap and you are introduced to a new character, you're looking for how they fit into overall story. And if you have heard about Oldboy before seeing it, the word TWIST is plastered all over it. Planting that seed gets the wheels turning and you're looking for it, sometimes without realizing.

What Oldboy does is make the film bigger than the twist. The twist is just an element of a masterplan, not a crutch.

I'd like to point out the way Carey Mulligan says Gatsby is hilarious. Also her acting in that movie was atrocious and she doesn't do well in the incredibly desirable woman role.

I am pretty sure this is correct. Her performance in Shame is super over the top and manic (is this possible in a Steve McQueen movie?) Hehehehehe and Assbender crying during her singing is quite cringe worthy.

Supposedly she was in line to win an Oscar for An Education(or lots of people had hoped) but she was BLIND SIDED by Sandy Bullock. I don't remember that movie too well.

I'm quite indifferent on her. I remember reading that she was on the final cut list of potential Lisbeth Salanders. Bitch ain't got that range. I woulda been so upset. Rooney Mara or die.

Just watch the trailer the entire movie is there, including the last bit of the movie. Marky Mark and Russell Crowe in autopilot mode with this generic thriller. One of the most overall phoned in movies of all-time, Russell Crowe deserves an Oscar for how little of effort he put into this movie. $$$$$$$$

Spoiler Alert: Mahky Mahk takes down corruption and shit.
