Bad Baseball Statements

Yeah. The county I live in here has 5 middle schools and all of our baseball teams got him to come to a school and sign for all of us and parents. It wasn't like he had to sign 3k things.

This could be a bad baseball statement but I need your Barves insight.

Yesterday a couple local sports radio hosts in Chicago were discussing Chipper Jones' tweets about the Rutgers situation. They were basically ripping on him for being kind of a douche about it. Whatever. But what caught me off guard was that they said that essentially "If you look at Jones' history in Atlanta he was always kind of an asshat/penis so idiotic behavior like these tweets isn't unexpected."

Maybe I was too far from Atlanta to pay attention or really care...but did I miss Chipper Jones being a dickwad for his entire career?

Nah, everyone agrees he's kind of a prick. He kind of gets a pass since he's funny, but nobody considers him a role model or anything.

Whenever someone talks about a guy being a "good lead off hitter" and then proceeds to talk about speed and defense.

Seriously, you know what makes you a "good lead off hitter?" Getting on fucking base. Which is what makes you a good number 2 hitter, and a good number 3 hitter, and pretty much a good hitter, regardless of where you hit in the order.

Take one player from each of those bolded categories and then add in guys like Aumont, Ruf and maybe Asche and you should get a versatile and enticing package.

Plus, you have 4 starting quality OF's (perhaps 5, if you like Khris Davis enough) signed long-term in Braun, Gomez, Aoki and Shafer. Braun played 3B/SS when younger, so move to 1B shouldn't be that hard - and they have already done it with less athletic guys like Gamel, Gonzalez, Yuni B, Maldanado and Lalli. Heck, Braun couldn't be worse on defense than Prince was, and love the idea of filling a weakness with a super strength, and filling that strength with another strength. Thoughts?

Yeah what makes that such a bad statement? His bat holds up well enough at 1st base and if they already have organizational depth in the corner outfield spots it could work. Is it a bad statement simply because someone said something about Braun that you don't agree with?

The only thing in that article I saw that was bad was indicating he could easily transition to 1st base because he played SS and 3rd base. Completely unrelated skill sets required to play those positions

Not to mention that he was an absolute embarrassment at 3B. Historically bad.

Not everybody is good at 1B, but its pretty hard to be bad at it. I think a potential move to 1B for Braun down the line is a pretty decent idea.
