BCS discussing wide range of possible modifications

This is the thing I really don't get about a lot of you guys. How can you say you want a system in place that helps ensure we have the 2 best teams in the championship game but in the next breath shit all over the BCS. You are talking out of both sides of your mouth.

Cause I don't have a huge problem with the BCS especially compared to others who flat out hate it. Thats not to say I think it's great or anything but I don't get nearly as upset about it as other people seem to. There's a lot of things that could be done to improve it.

Id rather have the BCS than a 16 team playoff thats for sure.

And what's so different about a late season poll? A bunch of sport writers and coaches that get together and figure out which losses are more meaningful between 3 or 4 1 loss teams as opposed to looking at a teams performance from the prior year, returning starters, and recruiting class and ranking them from that?

Preseason polls aren't necessary for the BCS to exist. BCS would improve if we got rid of them.

There's always going to be some subjectivity in college sports, it's even there with CBB's selection committee.

And yes there's a huge difference between ranking teams off of what they actually did, and ranking them off of what you expect them to do based on prior results, team history and recruiting.

Can't wait for the ESPN segment talking to all the pollsters about their Top 5 preseason teams...........even though there wouldn't be any polls.


It might change some of the back end teams around but I really doubt most of the top teams change all that much. The polls are a perception...and that perception will still exist even if it's not officially released in the paper.

Whether or not preseason polls would exist is a very minor side issue, at the end of the season all the conference champs have had a full season to make their case.

I really don't understand how you cant see the difference between a preseason poll and an end of season poll. It's pretty clear that the polls get more accurate as the season goes on, and when I say more accurate I don't mean completely accurate. The later polls are more based on objective results.

And how you gonna tell me that preseason polls set up the entire system, then also tell me that getting rid of preseason polls would change little. Both of those statements cannot be true.

You're not understanding what I am saying.

The first poll would obviously be integral to the BCS positioning, whether it's done a month before the season starts or a month after the season starts.


Your argument is the BCS would be better if we eliminated preseason polls. My argument is that it wouldn't matter.


Not having a preaseason poll would not change how the rankings would look at the end of the season. You would still be stuck with the same, broken BCS system.

Hence, it is worse then a 16 team playoff in football or March Madness.
