BCS discussing wide range of possible modifications

I really don't care about watching the MAC conference champion get pummeled against LSU. I want to see the top 4 or 8 teams in the country go at it.

Having said all of this with all of the conference realignment college football is going to 4 major conferences and the conference champion will represent their respective conference in a “playoff system”. I guess I can live with that, but it still wouldn’t be an accurate representation of the top 4 teams in the country.

Based on what? Polls? LSU, Alabama, and Arkansas are teh top 3 teams in the country but I really don't think they are that much far and away better (if at all) than some of the teams right behind them. They are really good teams but so is Stanford, Okie St, Va Tech etc. Last year everyone was creaming over the SEC and Auburn...the NC was decided by a FG in the closing seconds.

I dont care about that either, but the MAC champ would never be one of the top 4-6 conf champs in the country.

Ideally you want the top 4-6 teams going at it, but like FT said, the best system would be one that gives everyone a shot, and lessens the impact of the subjective rankings.

And by "everyone" we dont mean shit conferences like the MAC...but at least all the major BCS conferences.

I say place them based of off the BCS rankings. IMO LSU and Alabama are the two best teams in the country. Oregon, Okie St and Arkansas are probably next in line. Neither Stanford or VA Tech should be mentioned among the elite.

When did I say the polls? I just said top ranked teams, which could mean the BCS.

They are in the top 6 though

I agree winning the SEC means more than the ACC (this year), but my goal would be to give more teams a shot, and preserve the importance of the regular season.

It would really suck to have multiple teams from a conference in a playoff, which could happen very frequently under your system of just picking the top overall teams.

If your system was in place, the LSU-Alabama game woulda been meaningless, because both teams knew they would still be in the top 4 and make the playoff.

Under your system, Stanford & Va Tech would not make the playoff, excluding 2 major conferences from the process, when the SEC already had a chance to determine who their most worthy team should be. Its not fair to award conference runner ups and leave legit conference champs out. Whos to say Stanford cant beat LSU? Alabama already had a chance to beat them and didnt, why shouldnt Stanford have one as well? Comparing conferences is extremely hard and the only true way to settle it is on the field.

I think it would be great to have each conference play itself out like a playoff, and have the conf champ go battle other conf champs for the national title. More settled on the field, less determined by subjective rankings.

Pretty much this.

Yeah the SEC is stronger but teams like Bama and Arkansas aren't getting left out in the cold because games like Bama-LSU and Ark-LSU would essentially be playoff games.

Only real awkward situation would be if Arkansas beats LSU, then you have that weird 3 way divisonal tie situation...but it's up to each conference to figure out how they'd want to handle that.

True. Anything more than 8 is bad for D1. Once you get into the 11-15 range of the rankings, you start talking yourself into some flawed teams.

The winner of the MAC shouldnt be in any playoff, unless they have a Boise State type team that earns themself a high ranking.

Sidenote: Boise State probably wont even win their conference this year, TCU beat them.

That's a good thing. Shows a shift from putting importance on subjective rankings to focusing on what happens on the field. So yeah in a voter's mind Boise is better than TCU, but TCU would be in consideration for the playoffs since they beat Boise and won the Mountain West. Rankings would still come into play but not nearly as much.
