A big reason schools in the MAC don't get premiere talent is because of the fact these kids will NEVER have a shot at a National Championship.. hell Ball State went unbeaten up until their conference title game and even if they had won they weren't sniffing a shot at a National title.
I simply compared the NFL postseason to the NCAA postseason for the fact that the eventual champion is never looked at with a giant asterisk or question mark on it. There isn't a single season where the BCS isn't controversial or showing favoritism towards a bigger conference school. And sure, an SEC team probably is better than the Houston's and Boise State's of the world - but with this system in place the way that it is.. WE WILL NEVER KNOW. And that's what truly sucks.
No I disagree whole heartedly.. the BCS standings are typically wrong. And they are what ultimately determine who plays for the National Championship. And yes.. only giving 2 teams out of 120 a chance to win the championship is another major issue.. but I'll take it further.. I'd say a good 90-100 of these teams are eliminated when the preseason rankings come out. If you're not in the Preseason Top 25 and do not play in the SEC/Big Ten/Pac 12/Big 12.. good fucking luck getting into the discussion for getting a shot at the National Championship.
I like the 8-team idea, even though it will also be majorly flawed and likely slight smaller conference teams anyway (I can just see Houston being 9th, or Boise State being 10th as an example), because it's a step in the right direction.. but what's the big deal of letting the MAC champ into the dance as a 15 or 16 seed? What's the big deal of letting a Louisiana Tech into this thing and matching them up with LSU or Alabama? If LSU and Alabama are as good as advertised.. they're going to cream a "mid major" program anyway.. and I would MUCH rather see Louisiana Tech go 8-4, get a 16 seed and lose by 45 to LSU.. than see them go 8-4 and play in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl two weeks before New Years on ESPN 2.
I guarantee you though.. all this re-aligning and formation of "super conferences" would immediately end if a playoff were put in place. Which would be great for college sports because the BCS isn't just ruining football, it's ruining other college sports as well.
I also firmly believe you'd see some 4-5 star recruits take a shot to be the guy on a mid level program if they knew they would be in the NCAA postseason if they won their conference.
Really there are a million reasons to ditch the BCS and form any sort of playoff.. 4, 8, 16 teams.. whatever.. that much is for certain.
